Box with Scallop Circle Flowers

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Ballet Blue, Always Artichoke, So Saffron, Whisper White
Ink: So Saffron, (pad), Ballet Blue (marker)
Stamps: Sanded background stamp
Punches: Scallop Circle, Five Petal Flower, Boho Blossoms, 0.5" Circle and 1.25" Circle
Box Size: 11cm x 11cm x 3cm (approx. 4.25" x 4.25 x 1.25")

Method:

This box is a project that I did at my last stamper's ten meeting. Click on any of the pictures for a closer look.

Cut a square of Always Artichoke card 17cm x 17cm, and another square 16.8cm x 16.8cm. Score both pieces of card 3cm in from the edge on all sides. Cut straight in along the score lines as shown, and then cut a thin wedge out from the flap side of the cut.

Decorate the box as desired. Here I have stamped the Whisper White card using the Sanded background stamp and So Saffron ink, punched the corners of the larger square with a 1/2" circle punch, and then matted all pieces onto Ballet Blue card before sticking to the box. Punch a 1.25" circle of Always Artichoke and stick in the centre of the top of the box. Apply glue or double sided tape to the flaps as shown.

Fold along the score lines and stick the flaps to the inside of the box.

Punch six scalloped circles from Bashful Blue card, and mark the centre of each with a dot. Draw a rough circle around the dot as in the picture. Then cut out a wedge as shown by the dotted line on every other scallop all the way round.

Will look like this. Do all six scallops the same.

With a Bashful Blue marker draw markings on the petals as shown.

Place the tip of the needle end of the DEET tool in the centre of the flower shape, with the rest of the needle laying flat along a petal. Hold the DEET like a knife, with your index finger on the needle to apply pressure. Draw the needle from the centre outwards to create a crease. See the Tool Substitute tab at the top of the blog if you do not have a DEET tool.

With an embossing tool, make small circular movements in the centre at the base of the petals to cup them upwards. The more pressure you apply, the more the flower will cup.

Place a small dot of glue in the centre of one of the flowers, and place another on top, alternating the petals

so it will look like this. When you are satisfied with the position of the petals, press down in the centre with your embossing tool to adhere firmly. Make the other two flowers in the same way.

Punch two shapes using the 5 Petal Flower punch. Cut out one of the petals as in the picture above. Do this for both shapes.

Now cut up the middle between the remaining two pairs of petals as shown. Then on one pair of petals only, cut them apart into two individual pieces. You will end up with three pairs and four individual pieces. One of these individual pieces can be discarded.

Using the DEET tool, and the same method as creasing the flower petals, make a crease down the centre of each leaf.

Turn the leaves over, and glue one of the single ones onto the back of one of the pairs as above. Left hand shows the back of the leaf group after sticking, the right hand show the front.

Punch three of the little rounded petal flowers from the Boho Blossoms Punch from So Saffron card. Use the embossing tool in circular motion to make the shapes cup upwards.

Turn the flower over, and hold it with some tweezers. Apply a tiny spot of glue to each or the petal tips only. Don't worry about the petal that is being held by the tweezers - there will be enough glue on the other tips to hold the flower in place. The easiest way to apply a tiny amount of glue is to squeeze a blob onto some scrap paper, and then use the tip of a cocktail stick to apply it where needed.

Still holding it with the tweezers, turn the yellow flower over and gently place it into the centre of the blue flower. Once it is in position, leave it to dry. Don't apply pressure in the centre to avoid squashing it. Just be patient until the glue dries!

Apply three larger blobs of glue evenly spaced around the green circle in the middle of the box.

Place the three flowers onto these glue blobs and settle them into postion. Hold them for a little while until the glue 'grabs' and they will remain in position when you let go of them. I did use both hands to arrange my flowers, but needed one hand to take the photo! Take care not to put too much pressure on the centres of the flowers so that you don't squash them. I like to do the three flowers simultaneously so that I can adjust the postion of all of them at once. But if you find this too tricky, then glue one at a time into position, and wait 'til the glue is holding it firmly before moving on to the next one.

Apply a little glue to the back of a leaf group and stick it so that it pokes out from between the flowers. This is easier if you wait for the glue on the flowers to be holding them firmly so that they don't shift position. Repeat with the other two leaf groups.

The finished box.

Simple Engagement Card

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Night of Navy, Whisper White
Ink: Bashful Blue
Stamps: Mr & Mrs, Forever Flowers Wheel
Other: Bashful Blue Taffeta Ribbon
Card Size: 15cm x 10.5cm (approx 4" x 6")

Method:

This is a very simple card made for a swap I was involved in last week. Fairly quick to make, so is ideal for making in quantities suitable to announce an engagement. I simply rolled a line of flowers along the left hand side of the background with the Forever Flowers Wheel, stamped on one of the wordings from the Mr & Mrs set, and then mounted the background card onto a Night of Navy card base. The little image is from the Mr & Mrs set, matted onto a rectangle of Night of Navy, finished with a knotted piece of taffeta ribbon. All the stamping is done with Bashful Blue ink.

Lavender Flowers Birthday Card

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Lavender Lace, Certainly Celery, Whisper White
Ink: Lavender Lace, Certainly Celery, White Stazon
Stamps: Sale-a-bration Polka Dot Punches, Sincere Salutations
Other: Acetate
Card Size: 13cm x 13cm (just over 5" x 5")

Method:

Stamped the flowers on the Lavender Lace and Certainly Celery card scraps with the same colours of ink, and then punched out using the 5 petal flower punch that matches them. Cut between each petal to the inner circle on the design before scoring down the centre of each. Stacked a lavender flower onto a celery one and finished with a flat backed pearl from the pretties kit.

The circles were cut using Nestabilities plain and classic scalloped circles. The greeting is stamped with Lavender Lace using Sincere Salutations. Stamped the Acetate card base with white Stazon and the same five petal flower stamp as used for the 3D flowers.

Cheating with Daffodils

I found this picture of a card I made quite some time ago - before my blogging days. As I haven't made any cards since Christmas, I thought I would put this up to show you. (Yes, I cheated yesterday as well!) It's from one of the Jane Gill classes I attended at the Glitter Pot, and it is her own way of making these little daffodils. We just used yellow and orange paper for the flowers, and green card for the leaves. The daffodil petals are made from a Leone Em New Ash Branch punch, and the trumpets are made using a heart punch - not sure what size it was now, may have been the regular size one here - top row on the right. The basket is a Leone Em Easter Basket punch. I know that the card is all Bazzill, but I'm sorry that I can't remember what the designer paper is.

Punched Daisies and Stitching

The daisies on this card were made using a 1.5" Woodware Daisy Punch and a half inch circle punch. There are two layers for the petals, punched out of computer paper, shaped as here (scroll about half way down for the petal shaping), and coloured with pink chalk on the petal tips, and a touch of green in the centres. The centres were cut from yellow paper, and shaped with a large embossing ball tool to cup them. The two daisy layers are stuck together with the petals offset, and then the cupped centre piece turned upside down, with just a tiny bit of pva glue around the rim to stick it down to the centre of the petals. The leaves were punched from dark green paper using a Leone Em Ash Branch punch.

The stitching pattern is a free download from Ann's Paper Art, although I don't know if it is still available as I think they are changed periodically, and I've had it a long while. I used pink and yellow machine embroidery thread. The corners of the white card are punched using an EK Success Corner Adorner Shaper Punch called Iron Eagle. The embroidered piece is mounted onto a square of the same dark green paper that I used to punch out the leaves.

ETA: Ann has very kindly put this free pattern back up on her site. You can find it under the free patterns link to the left of the main page. Thanks Ann!

Snowman Card for ILWS SKC12

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Not Quite Navy, Real Red, Whisper White
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Real Red, Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie
Stamps: Cold Play, Season of Joy
Card Size: 15cm x 10.5cm (approx. 4" x 6")
Other: Diamond Stickles

Method:

This card was made for the SKC12 sketch challenge on In Love With Stamping. I varied the sketch by turning it upside down, and moving the square off centre.

The card base is Not Quite Navy, stamped with the snowflake stamp from Cold Play. I used Not Quite Navy ink, but stamped it off on scrap paper twice before stamping on the base card. Then embossed two lines across the bottom of the card, and cut a strip of Real Red to fit in between. Used my Stamp-a-majig to position the wording, which is from Season of Joy, and stamped in Real Red.

The Cold Play set contains various different snowman parts, in different sizes, and you can build one in whatever way takes your fancy. I used my Stamp-a-majig, and post-it notes for masking, so that I could stamp mine all on one layer. Not Quite Navy for the body and head - stamped off four times first to considerably lighten the colour. Real Red for the hat and scarf. Chocolate Chip for his arms, face and buttons. And Pumpkin Pie for his nose. I stamped some snowflakes around him, and also used a piece of scrunched up paper towel to very lightly dab on some blue in the sky area. The image is matted onto Real Red before gluing onto the card base. I stamped another hat on scrap card, and cut out the bobble to stick over the edge of the square. Finished with Stickles on the snowman, his hat, the ground and snowflakes. You can probably see it a little better if you click to enlarge the image. But the weather is far too dull today to get any twinkle out of it!

Little Christmas Card

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Real Red, Certainly Celery, Whisper White
Ink: Real Red, Old Olive
Stamps: Season of Joy, Itty Bitty Backgrounds
Card Size: 9.5cm x 9.5cm ( 3.75" x 3.75")
Other: Diamond Stickles

Method:

Well, so far I have made a grand total of 10 Christmas cards - all the same. Although, by my usual timetable, I'm still early! This is just a very simple one. Stamped the tree in Old Olive on Whisper White, and cut out. Mounted with foam pads onto a background stamped using Real Red on Whisper White, and matted onto an offset square of Certainly Celery. The card base is Real Red, stamped with one of the stamps from Itty Bitty Backgrounds - a US set borrowed from one of my downline who is from the US, now living in the UK. Finished off with some stickles on the tree and background to add a bit of twinkle, which of course you can't see in the photo.

Note Cards and Gift Box - Oh So Lovely Apricot and Moss

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Mellow Moss, Apricot Appeal, Very Vanilla, Very Vanilla Textured Card
Ink: Mellow Moss, Apricot Appeal
Stamps: Oh So Lovely, Sincere Salutations, Canvas background
Card Size: 9.5cm x 9.5cm (3.75" x 3.75")

Method:

The images were stamped on Very Vanilla using Mellow Moss ink. Coloured in using the matching Stampin' Write Markers. Used a 1/2" circle punch to shape the corners. For both designs of card the image is matted onto a square of Apricot Appeal, but on the card standing on the box, I first stamped the Apricot card with the background stamp from the Oh So Lovely stamp. The card on the windowsill has a background stamped with the Canvas background stamp using Mellow Moss onto Mellow Moss card. The card on the box has a background stamped with one of the flowers from the Oh So Lovely set, and a greeting from Sincere Salutations. Both cards have a Very Vanilla card base.

There are five of each design of card in the box, which I decorated to match. Instructions on making the box are here.
