Sick

It's official, I have strep throat for the first time. Thought I had the flu on Saturday, sure seemed like it. But as my throat got more and more painful, I wasn't able to swallow even the softest foods without choking on it. Even water was hard. Now I have antibiotics and already feel a bit better. I'm still contagious for 24-48 hours, so I'm going to have to miss Kaylee's one year checkup tomorrow. Major bummed. I know she will get shots too, ugh! My mom has kindly offered to come over in the morning to help, since I'm not exactly light on my feet right now. I'm hoping she will go with Galen so he doesn't have to do it alone. It's hard on first time parents to have their kiddos screaming from a shot! Well, maybe harder on the mom, but still, dads are softies too.

Happy Birthday Kaylee!

One whole year, oh my. Kaylee is honest to goodness walking now, and experimenting in a faster walk that's hilarious to watch. She shakes her head crazily like her daddy taught her to do, amusing as well. She loves loves loves her board books, and brings me one every few minutes in the morning. She's pretty good about keeping herself entertained, so I can get a few things done now and then. Including laundry, which she frantically crawls at me to empty the dryer. Her favorite part.

Right now she's squealing in her sonic high pitch happy voice while pulling books off her shelf. My baby! Oh my baby, what ever will I do? Where did the year go? I keeps going faster, doesn't it? Guess that means I'll have to remember to take more pictures.

One Day

One day my right eye, that Kaylee gouged at 5 months, will be normal again. One day. For now it takes about an hour every morning to get it to stop hurting, watering, or making me blind. So annoying! Thanks kiddo.

Learning

Kaylee is getting quick about some things, and utterly oblivious in others. As in, she waves at everything and "talks" to whatever she's waving at. She loves her board books so much it drives me nuts some days. I read through the book with her once and then just flip pages after, otherwise I'm reading the same book at least a dozen times in a row before she puts it down. But now she's figured out that when the pages start running out, mommy is going to say "the end!" and will stop reading, so she turns the pages backwards! Sneaky kiddo that one... As for oblivious, she still doesn't clap. She'll pick it up eventually, but for how much I clap to cheer her on and say good job to this or that, I'm surprised she hasn't yet.

She is dancing to the music on her activity table now, and likes to stop and start it a lot. She also discovered the lights on the ceiling and every time I carry her down the hallway for a change she stretches her neck around to watch the light. Galen introduced her to the lightswitch. Thankfully she can't reach it yet. Last night we were turning off and on the light in our bedroom and she cracked up laughing every time it was turned back on. Who knew?

We are well into 18 month sized clothing, have been since 10 months. She wears size 4-5 shoes and has taken up to 4 steps on her own now (barefoot). She's mastered the lean-and-grab-with-hands-so-feet-can-catch-up move. We very rarely have any true spills now, Kaylee has figured out how to control her 'falls' and gets right back up. She loves to pull all the books off her shelf, as well as all 'her' dvd's off the shelf.

Going outside is the best of the best though. We've had a few rare clear days for December and took her too the park. Who cares that it's 40 degrees outside?! That's why I bought her mittens! Bundle everyone up and she chirps'n'talks the whole ride there. Kaylee loves the swings, we have a roller coaster baby, no doubt.

I was lucky enough to get a babygate from one of the gals in our playgroup, and used part of it to block off our kitchen. Kaylee likes nothing more then to crawl into the kitchen and fling open cupboards while mommy is cooking. Not good! It's been maybe two weeks with the gate and she's sort of accepting it now. She enjoys helping me with the laundry too, which I let her pull out the dry clothes and fling them about. Funny thing is she gets all excited when it's her diapers, I think it's the colors. That's her favorite load of laundry right now. We're working on understanding that wet clothes go in, and she can't pull them right back out yet. Wet clothes are heavier and stick together, so she usually doesn't get much. Oh! And her sock fascination! This kid loves socks! My socks, Galen's socks, and oh-please-yes-socks. I haven't figured it out. Which leaves us with bare feet in the house because there's no way I can keep them on her unless shoes go on right after and we're leaving. Even in the car she will pull off a shoe just to take the sock off and chew on it.

Kaylee is a very adept eater and right now loves my cheesy tuna noodle casserole. Messy to eat yes, but she eats every last noodle. Green beans are her favorite veggie, and it's a toss up between pears or peaches as a fruit. I only have homemade canned pears, which she stuffs so fast into her mouth peaces pop back out. We get store bought canned peaches now and then.

If I find another free moment I'll get more pictures up on shutterfly. Right now Kaylee is bouncing away in her jumperoo watching Baby Einstein. Both of which she loves. 30 minutes of relaxation? HA! Too much to clean up around here for a moment's rest. Rugrats sure make a big mess and mine is no exception.

While the Baby is Away...

Kaylee spent today at her grandparents so mommy and daddy could have a break. Whew! But while the baby is away, the cat will play!

First Step!

Kaylee took her first step this evening! We were in her room just after putting her pj's on for the night and she was standing holding onto the rocking chair. I was sitting on the floor and waved at her, so she let go of the chair, waved back and took a step towards me before sitting down. Eeeee! Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke I had her stand against the chair again and beckoned her to me, and she did it again! Eeeee!

11 Months

Eleven months old today. I can't help but look ahead now instead of behind. One month from now and my little baby will be a whole year old. I don't think I can quite comprehend that. Kaylee can now stand a few seconds on her own, and is holding onto one object, letting go, turning and then grabbing next object. She walks circles around her activity table and says 'da da' and 'ma ma'. She's down to one nap a day, and we pray that she sleeps a solid 2 hours or we have a cranky baby by about 3pm. I'm still trying to fix her bedtime from daylight savings. We're up to 6:30pm with the goal being 7pm. Typically she sleeps 12 hours at night. We're down to 2-3 wake up screaming fits a week, but they are rapidly disappearing. We have her bedtime routine down pat and she knows the drill. Dinner, bath, playtime, warm milk and 5 minutes of Nemo then bed. She still loves Finding Nemo. It will be the theme for her first birthday party.

Birthday party! Oh my gosh! The playgroup we're in is amazingly fantastic. I've been to a few birthday parties now and they were organized chaos, but so much fun! I'm tempted to get live goldfish as the party favors, but I think the parents might shoot me, hehe.

On the health front, I'm doing soso. I know that too much fatty foods triggers my Mystery Pain, and this now includes bacon. I wake at night feeling like someone shoved a handful of nettles in my sides. As it is I can only sleep for five hours at a time because of back pain. I see the chiropractor once a week, but only weightloss will help I'm sure. Which I'm working on. Down a pound at the moment, woo!

I've also picked back up my writing. I have high hopes of actually completing a book by the time Kaylee turns 5. The small bit that I have written right now is what I'm working on to refresh my memory on the story itself, though I know that I will end up writing three books to encompass all of the story. It will be based on some roleplaying I did over two years. Wish me luck!

Fast track

We're on the fast track to walking right now. Kaylee loves loves loves to walk around holding our fingers. If we try to stop before she's ready, she pitches a royal fit. She cruses along the couch, windowsill, desks, us, anything. She's started to let go and stand a few seconds before sitting down. Whew! She 'talks' to her books now in a new babble that isn't heard anywhere else, still likes being outside (cold but nice lately, so we went to the park a few times), and eats the same foods that we do. The only 'baby' food she gets is cereal in the morning mixed with plain yogurt.

Thankfully she is sleeping the night through now, though she will wake now and again but put herself back to sleep. Her bedtime was 7pm, but daylight savings has messed that up and I can't get her to stay up past 6pm. She doesn't get up in the morning until 6am though, which is nice. She is cutting back on her naps and that worries me. We're down to one nap a day and it varies when she takes it. Usually 90min either after her morning snack or after lunch. If I could get her to take a longer nap, or two naps, I know it would bump her bedtime back to 7pm. If only! I want to sleep in until 7am. *sigh*

Galen has been working some earlier shifts lately, as in 2am instead of 4am. I think I really prefer the 4am since it gives him time with Kaylee in the evening and we can have a more normal dinner hour. Thankfully it only lasts though this week.

I read 'Heretic's Daughter' by Kathleen Kent for the bookclub in the playgroup I'm in. Very good book! Nothing I would have picked out on my own, but good none the less. Well worth the read. I haven't read a real book in ages! Seems my evenings are always too busy cleaning up or trying to catch up with friends online. Imagine that! Speaking of cleaning, that still needs to be done. Takes at least an hour every night. The things we do for our familys :)

Adventures

I made this post on the forums for the playgroup I'm in, and figured you guys might be amused too.

My story starts on Sunday. We thought Kaylee might be getting sick since she starting having a stuffy/runny nose. It's the cold season and I really wasn't worried. This continued onto the morning of hell for Monday. Cranky, whiny, snotty, pick me up put me down child. Wow. The nice thing is Nemo is still an instant fix for when I reached the end of my patience. But it gets better! Kaylee loves being outside and going places. So I get the bright idea to take her to Target with me and return a bath bag I bought in hopes of keeping the toys at bay. It didn't stick to our bathtub.

Did ya see that post I made about target, and coupons? Yeah, forgot those. At least she was happy as a clam to be outside and a complete angel. Get home, eat lunch. Get call from my chiropractor, wants to know if I can come in early since I'm the last appointment before the guy goes to lunch. Suuuure, why not. In and out with Kaylee in her carseat, happy as a clam. I'm dreading the explosion. We stop by Freds to pick up hubs on his way home from work. Kaylee passes out in the car. She snorts because her nose is plugged up. Get home, she's still asleep. Unbuckle sleeping child, pull her from the car, asleep on my shoulder all the way inside to her crib. Adorable! Definitely wondering if I dodged the bullet.

Hubs and I decided to ditch our Comcast internet/cable to save $20 a month with Quest. When I called last Thursday to get this set up I was assured that the cable modem we have would work just fine and we wouldn't have to buy or rent one from them. HA! Go to install the software that was delivered to us Monday and nothing works. I call Quest. Was told it's a problem with our router. I got shuffled over to Linksys. They would be happy to help me for a tech support fee of $29.99. Yeeah, not gonna fly. Hubs turn. He calls Quest. Gets someone moderately more intelligent then the dipshit I got. Lo! Turns out our modem won't work, we'll have to buy one from them. And the topper? Their server is through a normal phone jack. Guess where the only phone jack is in our living room? We discuss ways to rearrange our furniture in the crackerbox that is our living room so cats don't eat cords and Kaylee doesn't a hold of cords.

Monday night! I get so sick to my stomach I'm past thinking I might puke. I want to puke. So badly, just to make it stop. Hubs is still up at 6pm watching Kaylee while I dance with the porcelain, he has to work at 2am. Thankfully I get 'better' and am able to bathe Kaylee so hubs can get some sleep. What does my snotty cranky cheese covered child do? She squeals happily at me so I'd look up, and wave! For the first time! I had to drag hubs out of bed so he could watch, and sure enough she waved again for him. Adorable!

Tuesday! Hubs drives out to the Quest store in Van Mall. I deal with snotty but happy Kaylee. Being sans car, I called JP and cancelled, but figured you guys wouldn't want a snotty baby around anyway. Didja miss me? Didn't think you'd have this long ass story to read, did ya? hehe. When hubs got home from Quest, we then proceeded to move ALL the furniture in our living room. Two computer desks and a couch. Ouch, it's where we live people. EVERYTHING lands on our desks. We're computer geeks. Nerds. It's Our Life! We might as well have been moving the whole house it took so damn long. Plus the couch, but that wasn't even 90 seconds of the HOURS it took to disassemble, move and reassemble the desks. All this to save $20 a month. Is it worth it? Oh yeah. Was Kaylee confused when she woke from her nap? Hell no, she had new windows to look out of!

Snotty but happy, the story of my life :)

10 Months

Kaylee is now 10 months old, as of Sunday. I know I don't update nearly as often anymore, but that kiddo just takes up so much time! She crawls with the best of them, pulls herself up on everything, cruses along the couch/windowsill/toys/parents, and generally gets into everything we don't want her to. It's a daily battle to remember to dump the catfood out of their dishes before she gets to them. Yes she has eaten her first catfood! Eww.

We are experimenting with all sorts of foods now, she eats mostly what we eat. Peas are our newest addition and she loves them. Not so much fun coming out the other end tho! Ha! I've also done the organic debate, weighed the pros and cons, and came out with what I can afford. Kaylee gets organic milk and yogurt with some organic veggies when they are on sale. I'm concerned about the growth hormones in cow's milk, especially with all the new information and girls hitting puberty so much sooner. We can't afford to buy exclusively organic, but if I could I would.

Of course I would write more, but Ms. Kaylee is getting into trouble, again!

More Blood Please

Two days ago (I think) Galen sliced his finger open on an open can lid of beets. We were feeding Kaylee beets for the first time. He dropped the can on accident... and caught it. Then promptly jerked his hand back and sprayed my kitchen with a surprisingly large amount of blood.

Today I was feeding the cats dinner while Galen read Kaylee her bedtime story. We have a scraggly stray that lives around here and I took pity on her awhile back for how skinny she was and put some cat food out on the porch. One scoop that lasts my cats one day lasted her three. Anyway, I keep the window in the kitchen open almost all the time and she appeared at the sound of me feeding the cats. The pig that we call Tux was all over his food but Susie was just lounging in the living room. So I opened the back door quick and dumped some food out there. Happy stray! Susie came over to see why the door was open and promptly went bottlebrush and hissed/growled. So I closed the blinds. Problem solved? Nope. She pushed her way through the blinds to attack the window. Lovely. So I gave her a shove with my foot to get away, something I've done countless times, and she turned and attacked my leg with all four limbs and teeth.

Yikes! Now that I wasn't expecting, nor was Galen expecting the shriek that I let out. But he lovingly cleaned up my wounds, one of which had a cat claw stuck in it! Now I have six bandaids, and only six because that's all we had left. Two spots are pretty deep and I had blood running down my leg. Fun times.

So now both Galen and I have bloodied the kitchen in the span of three days. Record!

Space Cadet!

I was going to put up a nice long post about the trip to Just Between Friends that Lynnette and I did on Sunday, but I forgot! Swiss cheese brain still haunts me at times. Plus I had a bunch of cleaning to do last night and I made chicken stock. Whew. SO! Grandpa gave Kaylee $20 for mommy to spend on clothes at the JBF consignment sale, but mommy was very very good and didn't go nuts and brought home adorable clothes for only $14 :) In case we have a winter like last, I bought her a snow suit for $2.50 and a hat. For $2. Cracks me up. Enjoy adorableness! Kaylee was bouncing as I took pictures and giggled every time the flash went off. But try to take a picture of her? Ha!
The cute purple jumper cost as much as the snow suit, amazing! I looked at costumes, but they were all $15 and up, so instead I went and bought one from Freds. Check shutterfly for pictures!

Sleep

The last three nights Kaylee has had a horrible time going to bed due to teething, but she always makes it to sleep before 8pm. I've started giving her warm milk and crackers just before bed to help calm her down, and boy does she chug that milk! The best part? She sleeps through the night now! From 7-8pm until 6am, makes for a very happy mommy. We're still working on our naps, which are very unpredictable right now, but that's okay. Today she fell asleep in her Jumperoo for the first time. Adorable!

She's such a big girl now, determined to stand on her own to the point of letting go and wobbling until she falls and/or catches herself. She loves being outdoors, and pitches a fit when she sees the front door to go back inside! I can't believe how big she looks compared to baby Norah. Was my little girl really that little once? I was looking at her hands just this morning and going "wow, those are actually HANDS!" You know, not the little tiny baby hands. /sigh It goes too quick.

Changes

I had to take down Kaylee's musical mobile that was on her crib, since she is a PRO at standing up now. I may have to take out the bumper pad too, since she always steps on it when she's standing. The plus side is, yay my baby is standing! The downside is that I can't just lay her down for a nap, she's gotta be very tired and cranky so she just rolls over and goes to sleep. Kaylee is in that super excited phase where all she wants to do is pull herself up on things, but she has a hard time getting back down so she fusses and cries until I 'save' her.

She can also 'walk' when I hold her hands. It took a while, but she figured out how to lift her feet instead of me pulling up on one arm. Very cute, and yet so frightening as well. She barrels across the living room at lightning speed to chase the cats as it is, I can't imagine what it'll be like once she's walking. Which can't be far off. She's progressed from pulling up to only her knees to pulling up and standing in under a week. Wow!

I've discovered the wonders of Shutterfly and will be using it from now on for pictures. Blogspot is wonderful for a blog, but they're really annoying to upload a bunch of pictures. Shutterfly lets me mass upload, which is what I need since I take so many pictures! I know I've slacked on putting up Kaylee's 8 month pictures, but it takes so much darn time I just haven't had the chance. Now I have them all up on Shutterfly as recent as last week. Huzzah! There will be a link to the left from now on, and I'll leave the pictures I already have on blogspot alone. Because it would take time to take them down, and I don't have time. I have a 9 month old!

Progress!

Kaylee pulled herself up to standing against the couch today. She also had her first sippy cup full of whole milk and tried some Kix cereal (as is approved by her doctor). So far, she LOVES milk. I've never seen her chug a drink before, but she sure did!

...and now she's "chasing" Galen down the hallway, adorable!

9 Months

Kaylee is nine months old today! Whew! She's definitely crawling like mad and exploring everywhere. She particularly likes the plastic mats our computer chairs sit on, and the kitchen floor when the sunlight hits it in the morning. She can toss a ball around to play with us, though no patty cake yet. She's starting to look like she might clap or wave, it's hard to say. She can pull herself up on her her knees, go from stomach to crawl or sit, and from sit to crawling. On her back though, she's like a turtle...stuck! It's funny, but I'm sure she'll figure it out eventually. She's starting to take a few steps when standing against the couch. Yes she can stand on her own when holding onto the couch. By all signs I don't think we'll be in the crawling phase for long. She has discovered a whole new world and is charging at it head first!

As for Kaylee's doctor appointment today, no shots! Yay! Just a toe prick to check her iron levels, which are a bit on the low side. So we're gonna go get her some vitamins and make sure she eats lots of broccoli. She is 29 inches long (tall?) and 18lbs. 3oz. She did very well today and went to bed like a lamb. If only every night was so easy.

Our Wingless Deer

Our car is home! Woo! We had a hitch with the down payment, or a misunderstanding more like. So we ended up with a zero down payment car loan through... Fred Meyer! I'm calling it our wingless deer, since it's a '01 Chevy Impala. I dunno, it fits. Yay car!

Pictures

So I know I've been lax in picture posting, but I have a lot of them piling up! So here's my favorite from today. I gave Kaylee the pile of grocery receipts that we've saved over the month to keep track of our spending. She enjoyed the pile :)

Now We're Pissed

What an exhausting day. Wow. So 8am I'm out by St. John's and 78th to drop off Kaylee at one of the playgroup gal's home. I head back to the gallbladder specialist that's right next to SW Med. I wait for FIFTY MINUTES in a little room. Then this little arab man comes in and picks up the papers that are about me and proceeds to read them. He knows nothing about me. It's weird.

Then I get a ten minute lecture about how I should lose weight, that weight loss is good, that it would help my insulin levels, that I would be happier and have a better life. Did I get diabetic education? Health education? Nutrition education? You know that there's a place that offers it just up the street right? Excuse me? Hello? Hi, I'm here about a pain in my back that is getting progressively worse. But no, he proceeds to tell me things I already know, explains that from what he read and what I told him (the few words I could get in) that most likely it's a musculature or skeletal problem, not a gallbladder problem. He says that I should stop taking my pain meds and see if the pain comes back. Um, hello? I'm in pain every night, this doesn't count? No, it doesn't count because I'm not in pain right here right now. I hate this little man and his oh so quick judgments, he wrote me off as some fat person with a sore back.

I'm not even sure where to go from here. I think I'm going back to my PCP to complain. A lot. The only bit of information that he gave me that is of the smallest bit useful is that since I was on pain meds when I got my CT scan and lab work done, it can slow down the gallbladder and give a false impression, false positive. But he's "pretty sure" that it's just a sore back. And get this, I don't even have a return appointment with him. I'm supposed to slowly go off my pain meds and if I start to hurt in the next three weeks I'm to call them so he can do a urine test. A freaking urine test to see if I have a what? A urinary tract infection. Oh My God. Did I not tell you that they tested me for that the very first time I went in to see my doctor? That I wasn't on pain meds when they tested? That I have no symptoms of a UTI? Can I shoot my doctors please? Please?

And as a side note, yes I have been to diabetes education, health education and nutrition education. I know I'm fat, thank you very much and I'm working on it. I lost 5 pounds in a week when I decided to tackle this "baby weight" and then the Mystery pain started. I'm now going back to that diet of lots and lots of veggies and protein to see where it takes me now.

Oh, Now We Hurt?

Back when my Mystery first started and my doc thought it may be gallbladder, she said the pain usually presents in the front. Well guess what? Now it hurts in the front. As of yesterday evening actually. It's rather sharp too, so I don't want to even imagine what it would be like without the painkillers I'm on. Thankfully my appointment is tomorrow. I'll letcha all know what I find out.

Let's Get Movin'!

Kaylee can push herself backwards across the whole living room, as well as turn a full circle either direction while on her tummy. She can scoot around on her tush and make her way across the living room to chase a toy. She is now getting her knees up under her and getting that tush in the air. Huzzah! I don't know why this kiddo has taken soooo long to crawl, but she has. It's frustrating and worrisome, but also nice that I haven't had to chase her around yet. She does get frustrated when on her tummy and wanting to go forward, but she only goes back. I have a baby einstein dvd that I bought a long time ago (or so it seems!) and she has loved watching the babies on it. The same day I pulled out this dvd was the same day she got on all fours on her own with her tush in the air. Coincidence? I think not!

We tuck away a little bit of money each week for Kaylee so that I can buy her clothes and toys. Well thanks to the playgroup I'm in (love you guys!) she doesn't need clothes for awhile. So I went and got her a toy instead! I've wanted to get her an activity table of sorts as her next toy, but have been putting it off due to the cost. No problem now! In fact, it was a bit cheaper then I thought it would be. So now Kaylee has a Laugh & Learn Musical Table that is wonderful. I love it, and so does Galen. So far we've just used the 'music' mode, you hit a key anywhere on it and it plays a song. If we can get Kaylee to understand cause and effect, we're one step ahead! This will be a wonderful growing toy as that it has many other learning modes included. Happy mama!

Eyeball , Say What?

I'm beginning to think that 2009 isn't going to be my year. As I'm typing this, I bet I'm legally blind in my right eye. As it so happens, three months ago or so Kaylee jabbed her little finger in my eye during one of her midnight feedings. It hurt, a lot. And then I was fine, or so I thought. Over the course of the last three months that eye would randomly hurt and I would lay down with a wet washcloth over it and be fine after a nap. This time around I wasn't so lucky. My eye decided to go bumblefuck crazy on me yesterday. And pardon the language but that's the only term that can properly convey the amount of pain and agony that I went through. It felt like I had something stuck under my upper eyelid and it was scratching the hell out of my eye.

So after many foot stomping, screaming, crying and sobbing into wet washcloths I went into the eye doctor today. According to him Kaylee must have lacerated my eye three months ago and it never fully healed. In fact, it's probably worse now then when she originally did it.

Now I have a severe laceration on my eye and a contact 'bandaid' over it to help it heal. He also put a very strong dilation solution in it so it will help with the light sensitivity I was having. Ask Lynnette and George about that, it was a cave in our apartment so I could even be out of the bedroom, hehe.

I also have my appointment to see a gallbladder specialist on Sept. 1st. So we'll know more on that front soon, I hope. I've also developed a canker sore for the first time since high school. I read that they are stress induced. Ya think?! At least I'm not freaking out that I'm going to go blind and never see my baby again. Whew!

I was wondering when it would finally happen, and today is the day. Kaylee fell off our bed! Which took all of the 10 seconds that I left the room to get my hairbrush from the bathroom. Figures. I didn't hear her fall, just the cry. She ended up on her tummy, on my 'side' of the bed. She has two red spots on her head and is very clingy. I've managed to calm her down and distract her with Nemo, her favorite movie. She moves just fine and doesn't complain when I pick her up, poke and prod. So I'm sure she'll be just fine, but that doesn't mean she didn't scare five years off my life. Oyii!

Norah Pictures!

Welcome Baby Norah!

Baby Norah was born at 3am August 19, 2009 at 7lbs 6oz and 19 inches. Very much in a hurry, Lynnette woke up at 1am, arrived at the hospital just before 2am and baby was here by 3am! Both mom and baby are doing well, but due to the quickness of the birth it was a bit rough on mom. I'll have more details this evening or tomorrow after I've had more time to visit and talk with the new mommy and daddy.

Yay baby!

Mornings

Do you remember those huge zits that balloon up all grotesque like under the surface, and they hurt so bad you just have to do something about them, but they won't pop and you're going out of your mind to get rid of it until finally you squeeze something out, only it doesn't squeeze per say, but crunches like an under ripe pear? Yeah, that's my morning with Kaylee.

Mornings are not my strong point. I'm a hellish person to be around until 9am. Then it's like magic and I have a pep in my step. Wish I could make it 8am, but when Kaylee wakes up at 5:15am I just want to cry.

Ah motherhood, you got me good there. It's not gonna change until she's a teenager too, I know it. Oh well, I gots me some adorable pictures and I'll get around to posting them in a day or two.

Blue

Kaylee's favorite color is blue.
That is all.
Good day!

Progress!

So what's the most exciting, enticing, must have toy to get Kaylee to pursue in attempts to crawl? Not her fuzzy block, sadly. Nor her box of blocks either, which is a new favorite. Can you guess? It happens to be my toes, painted bright blue! She loves blue just like her mommy, and I got her to scoot backwards in pursuit of my wiggling toes. So cute!

In other news, our car is dead. Done and dead and can't be driven anymore. Unless it's to a junk yard. I tried to drive it Saturday, and when I started it, things were a bit funky. When I backed out of our parking space it shook like a jalopy, coughed, choked, shuddered and smelled burnt. So I pulled right back into our parking space and left it. Not sure what we're gonna do now. The only real need we have for a car is to get me to play dates and out of the house so I don't go crazy. Since Galen can walk to work, we can also get groceries that way too. I'm thinking of walking up to the car dealership on Ellsworth and seeing if I can get any sympathy, and a good price on a car. We'll see.

Welcome Baby Isabelle!

Naomi went into the hospital at 6am this morning, her induction started at about 8:30am and baby Isabelle was born at 12:53pm. Whew! Lucky girl it went so quick! Naomi had no narcotics or epidural for pain, and the 'little' girl was 9.2 pounds, 22 inches. Both mom and dad are doing well. Now it's Norah's turn!

Playgroup Swap

I love my playgroup. I love you gals! Oh my gosh! So many clothes! I'm in baby clothes heaven! Gonna have to get boxes and carefully pack away the 18 month+ clothes, since I don't have room to hang 'em all, lol. I'll have to bake you guys that chocolate cake or something. Not sure how white trash that would be for bunco though... depends on babies poppin'. Thankfully Kaylee crashed and is now sleeping. Which I plan on doing too. Off to dream of baby clothes!

8 Months Cont.

That time already, eh? Not sure how I make it from morning to night each day, but it's sure nice once Kaylee goes to bed and I have time to breathe. Her bottom tooth has poked through, but isn't up all the way yet. I've only been able to see it when she's crying, otherwise her tongue sticks out and blocks it. No matter, it'll be up soon!

We've delved into the yogurt and cheese world now, and she is fanatical about cheddar cheese. Graham crackers too. She's also had a few plain pinto beans, which went over well, and some soft bits of chicken. Next stop will be soft cooked veggies and very ripe fruits. I have some peaches on the counter I'm gonna try tomorrow morning.

While Kaylee can't crawl yet, she can get her knees under her and push up with her arms, just not at the same time. She does all of her daily playtime sitting up now, and is having fewer and fewer tumbles. She's showing preference for specific toys, and even Galen on occasion. Much to his amusement and dismay.

Kaylee still wakes up once at night for some boob, which is fine by me, though she has the occasional wake up need to be soothed cork in her mouth back to sleep times. We've also figured out most of our poo issues, the cheese really helps. I know there are tons of other things I could report but nothing is making it through my swiss cheese brain right now.

As for the CT scan, I will get results in a few days. Will letcha know what I find out. It wasn't an endearing experience, and I hope none of you ever have to do it.

Kaylee is 8 months old today! I will have a nice long post tonight when I get time to write. Instead, I give you pictures!

Tux

Does anyone want a big lovable squishable adorable cat? Tux has got to go unfortunately. He's either become too neglected since Kaylee arrived or too territorial, but he's been peeing in the same spots. Outside his box that is. He has no bladder crystals so it isn't a UTI. He just needs attention and love. But he's gotta go. Anyone want?

Mystery Update II

Lab results are in, and show nothing out of the ordinary. I've been informed that my doctor is rather concerned and wants a CT scan of my abdomen done pronto. I'll be getting it tomorrow afternoon. So now that the ultrasound ruled out stones, the lab work rules out infections and godknowswhatelsetheytestedfor, it's on to the scary stuff. I admit I'm exactly that, scared. In addition, the pain is getting worse even with the painkillers I'm taking. Not to the, I'm a ball of hurt and can only cry pain, but definitely slows me down a lot. I'll post the results of the CT when I know it.

Mystery Update

I haven't heard from the lab yet, and don't expect to until Monday at the earliest. So far the pain is worst in the morning. I've also developed a new pain on my right front side just across from my belly button. It doesn't hurt because of the vicodin, but I do know it's there. Not sure if this is anything to worry about, since I worry plenty as it is.

FML

"Today, I was lying in bed late at night trying to fall asleep. I blew my nose on a kleenex and was too lazy to get up and put it in the garbage. I threw it under my bed when I heard a whispery voice say "Thank you". It was my little brother trying to scare me. It worked."

Baby Soon-ish!

Update! False Alarm! Was her mucus plug and not her water breaking. Back home she goes!

Naomi's water broke at 1pm this afternoon. There will be a new baby in the family soon! Galen already left to go be with her, I'm home with Teething Ms. Cranky. On the plus side, I think she went to bed early. All that crying has got to wear her out!

The Great Mystery

Yesterday's ultrasound revealed that I have a fluid filled cyst on my right kidney, which apparently isn't the cause of my pain, and an enlarged liver, also no surprise given my weight. No kidney stones, no gallbladder stones, no explanation for my pain. So today I had blood drawn, four vials of it, to run god knows what tests to see what's up. The results will take a few days, but how long exactly I don't know. For now I'm taking vicodin, and can still feel where "it" is, and will have random stabbing pains still. I've also developed some vertigo that comes and goes, but I don't know if it's a side effect of the vicodin or a new symptom. Last night I was very nauseated and had a horrible head ache that went away once I went to bed. I'm assuming it was a side effect.

I consulted my doctor and did some research online about the effects of vicodin in breast milk for babies. Most results are inconclusive, which left me on the fence. Then hearing from my doctor that "vicodin is a commonly used narcotic among breastfeeding women in the U.S. and considered an L3 drug, ie. moderately safe". I've had a hard time pumping with the breast pump that I have, and ended up with balloons on my chest. So I've decided to breastfeed Kaylee anyway. Fire away at me what you will, but I think the benefits of breastmilk outweigh the 1 mg. of vicodin that she will get. Besides, she's teething something hardcore and it might do her some good, heh.

Which leads to my offtopic topic. Kaylee's teething something hardcore. She really only gets bad about it before bed, and I think that the combination of pain and sleepiness just gets to her. This is the second night in a row I've given her a very small dose of infant Tylenol to soothe the screaming and she's conked out. I can see the top of the tooth that's coming in, it's the bottom right front tooth. Not sure how long these puppies take to pop out, but I'll letcha know when I see it!

Gallbladder

I went into the doctor today about the pain on my right side. Doctor determined it could be my gallbladder. So tomorrow morning at 6:45am I have to be at the hospital for an ultrasound to see what the deal is. For now, I'm taking vicodin for the pain, which means no nursing Kaylee. Pump'n'dump! Only problem is, I can't get my left breast to pump. Which can lead into a whole host of problems. I have some frozen milk, and Kaylee will take a bottle if she's hungry enough. She can also drink out of a sippy cup. Lets hope the news isn't too horrible tomorrow morning.

Tooth Bump

I finally found out what has been causing Kaylee to cry inconsolably. She has her first tooth coming in! While she was crying on my shoulder this morning I saw the white bump on her lower gums. Oh boy tooth! She's become much more clingy, which is annoying if I want to get anything done, but overall I don't think it's too bad. I have teething tablets and baby Tylenol if it gets too bad, but she's been a trooper and is doing alright.

Me on the other hand, not so sure. Yesterday while driving back from the Fishes I started to get an ache on my right side. Last night that ache hurt so bad when Kaylee woke me up to eat, that I was almost in tears. Tylenol didn't touch the pain, but Excedrin has taken the edge off. I'm worried it might actually be my kidneys, since it doesn't matter which way I stretch or reach, pick up Kaylee or anything, nothing makes the pain 'worse' so I would know what I did to cause it. I've had one UTI in the past and didn't have any of the normal symptoms, just the horrible back pain. Hot packs don't help, and ice packs do numb it a little. I'm not quite sure what to do, so I'm going into wait and see mode.

On a totally different note, the coupons in this Sunday's paper are great!

Spanky's

I went to Spanky's Consignment this morning. Because it's the first of the month, they move their inventory around and new stuff becomes 50% off and others down to $2. Where have I been all these months?! It was amazing! The store opens at 9am, and I got there at 8:50am. Other people were already there waiting, we had a nice chat. In all I bet there were eight of us when they opened the doors.

I had gone into Spanky's yesterday morning, and an employee told me that the clothes will be switching on the 1st. So I picked up a pj and a cute onsie that it wouldn't have mattered (and I need pj's, dear lord my weed of a child).

Anyway! Wow! I feel like such a super mom! I found some amazing deals, and considering I had to pack away all of Kaylee's 9 month onsies, and now some of her outfits, I was getting kinda jittery with how low her "pile" of clothes were. She can still go through 3-4 onsies/outfits a day. My bestest deal was a Gymboree outfit, shirt and pants, for $2. It was marked at $8.99, and would probably sell new for $20. Or more. I have no idea, I don't buy new clothes. Unless they are at Spanky's, NEW, with the original sales tag. Which is what I got some of. A lot of actually. *giddy* Three Carter's onsies and two bubble outfits. New! The bubble outfits retail for $13 each and I got them for $4 each. New! They're very darling, so darling in fact that I took a bunch of pictures to share my joy. There's even a cute purple dress by George. I've never heard of the brand George, have you? Hmm, lemme google real quick... Hmm, only thing that comes up is a Wal-mart brand? Dunno. Either way, cuteness. In all I spent $36 to round out Kaylee's 12 month clothes and fill in her 18 month.

Oh! And one of the people waiting for Spanky's to open was a woman with three kids. A 4 year old boy, 3 year old girl and 7 month old baby. Another lady asked their ages, and I started giggling when she said her baby was 7 months. I just pointed down at Kaylee and said that she was 7 1/2. This baby was soooo tiny, in a cartseat/stroller wearing a footie jammie, while Kaylee is sitting upright in a stroller with a jumper and shoes on. What difference! The woman said that her little one was just now starting to wear 3-6 month clothes. We all laughed and it was fun.

Growing

Kaylee grew again. It was over night that her Carter's onsies got tight around the legs, and the 12 month size ones now fit perfectly. A weed I say! My little monkey footed baby girl is now wearing 12 month sized onsies at seven and a half months. Gah!!

Progress

Kaylee has finally decided that tummy time is okay. She can roll herself over from back to front, and front to back, but she hasn't gone for the combo yet. She pushes up on her arms and can get her knees under her a little bit, but no scooting yet. She has, however, pushed with her toes to go maybe an inch forward. This is a big accomplishment! We're taking about the baby that would scream bloody murder if she ever "accidentally" rolled onto her tummy. She's quite happy to sit and play with toys, but will still topple over after awhile. Because she's getting so accomplished I moved the height of her crib to it's lowest setting. This way we can pull the crib rail up and she's locked in for good. I hope. She hasn't pulled herself up on anything yet, but it's only a matter of time and I don't want any accidents.

In other news, sometime in the next 4 weeks there will be two new babies in the family! Hard to believe it's that time already, huh? Naomi is due Aug. 10th and Lynnette is due Aug. 18th. They both look like someone stuck a basketball on their bellies. I'm betting they both run past their due dates because it's a first time baby. But we'll see! I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate me saying that, hehe.

Babies

Today we had Lynnette's baby shower at our place. Cramped but we all fit! Lynnette got many generous gifts and I think the shower went just fine. Even if I got last minute notice! Now I have babies on the brain. We're going to have two babies arrive sometime in the next 4 weeks. Two! So I find myself looking back through the first pictures we have of Kaylee; cooing and awwing, giggling and having 'I remember when' moments.

Wait a second... Kaylee is only seven months old! I'm astonished at how much she's changed! I barely remember the time she had baby acne, or a horrible red bum, or needing to eat every 3 hours regardless of the time of day.

Then I'm thinking on what she has accomplished recently. She's sitting reliably, and can look around and up without falling over (usually). Bath time has become a blast now that she's figured out how to splash, and naked wiggle time is still the best part of the day. She eats 1.5 to 2 containers of baby food for both lunch and dinner (3.5 oz. each) and has baby cereal and juice for breakfast, and will sometimes have a snack of juice and "crackers" if I really need to get something done. She's almost a pro at getting her crackers (gerber puffs) into her mouth and I rarely find them on the floor or in her lap anymore.

While Kaylee still hates tummy time, I've been putting her on my stomach while leaning back in my computer chair and she's fine by that. She is pushing up on her hands and sitting on her knees. If I can only get her to transition that to the floor she'd be crawling by now. She can stand on her own holding onto the couch. She's a master at her Jumperoo and loves it. I have yet to see her pull herself up on anything, but I know she's close from how she curls up and uses her stomach muscles. I'm not sure if I'm ready for her to be mobile yet, I rather like her in one spot!

Eating Out

How often do you eat out? It seems to be the big thing, since people either don't have the time, will, skill, or energy to cook themselves. I think eating out should be a treat. That one night a week, a month, a year, that you get to spend with friends or family and do something special. But eating out has turned into this weekly thing, where you drive through a fast food place, pick out a burger'n'fries and you're on your way.

So I ask again, how often do you eat out? Galen and I probably have fast food once every 10 days or so. A little more then a week. Usually it replaces dinner when we're both utterly exhausted from work/baby. But is this an acceptable thing? Maybe we should keep more easy things in the freezer to eat. That has to be healthier then whatever we'd get from a window. Ugh.

So far we have averaged 1 nice dinner a month since Kaylee was born. This I find acceptable. There's a big difference in the quality of food from a sit down meal and a window. Money is always tight, and I have to wonder if I can find a better, easier, faster meal, to keep at home, then going to that window. When we get fast food, it's usually $15 for the two of us. $15! What could I get for that same amount of money, that would be quick'n'easy to eat at home? Much to ponder...

Dexterity

I'm convinced more and more that Kaylee is a little monkey. She uses her feet to manipulate toys, toes too! I've watched her use her thumb to push a puff across her palm until it gets to the edge, and then stuff it in her mouth. She's also used her thumb/finger in a pincher grasp to pluck the puffs off of one palm and put it in her mouth. I mentioned this to her doctor at her six month checkup and he said that it's considered 'fine motor' skills, and usually seen in 8-9 month old children. Monkey baby!! I loves her.

You Wanted What?

Pictures? Of a seven month old baby? Oh, okay!

7 Months

Kaylee is seven months old today.
Seven months. 7.
Can you believe it?
I can't.

She's mastered her Jumperoo and can go bonkers in it for over an hour. She can sit on her own, and never did the 'tripod' sit with her arms. She just sat. Still falls over after a min or so, but she's pretty good. She can roll over chasing toys, but then gets mad and screams. She hates being on her tummy. She sleeps on her side hugging her musical seahorse. I've found her in many strange places in her crib now that she's more mobile. I'm not sure that she will crawl, it's looking more like straight into walking. She can stand with us holding just her hands. Any steps leads straight to her bottom on the floor though. But we'll get there. She eats all kinds of baby food with a ravenous appetite, and loves the Gerber puffs. The little puffs can now make it into her mouth with a high rate of success. She can even pluck them off of the opposite hand and put it in her mouth. Dexterity! She also fits in about half of her 12 month onsies with just a little baggyness, and can wear quite a few of her 12 month outfits. *facepalm* I have a weed! Make her stop growing! Aaaaaa!

Chololate Sheet Cake

So awhile back, you may recall that I attempted to make a chocolate sheet cake from Pioneer Woman. And it didn't turn out quiiiite as planned. Well I fixed it! After halving the recipe, it turned out just divine. Let me share! So you too, can enjoy the mixture of heaven and horror that is this cake. (insert diabolical laughter here)

Pioneer Woman Chocolate Sheet Cake (halved)

Combine in a mixing bowl:

1 cup flour

1 cup sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

In a saucepan, melt:

1 stick butter

Add 2 heaping tablespoons cocoa. Stir together.

Add ½ cup boiling water, allow mixture to boil for 30 seconds, then turn off heat.

Pour over flour mixture, and stir lightly to cool.

In measure cup, pour ¼ cup buttermilk.

Add:

1 beaten egg

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon vanilla

Stir buttermilk mixture into butter/chocolate mixture. Pour into large cookie sheet and bake at 350-degrees for 10-13 minutes.

While cake is baking, make icing:

Chop 1/3 cup pecan finely.

Melt 7 tablespoons butter in a saucepan.

Add 2 heaping tablespoons cocoa, stir to combine, then turn off heat.

Add:

3 tablespoons milk

½ teaspoon vanilla

1 ¾ cup powdered sugar

Stir together.

Add pecans, stir together, and pour over warm cake.

I'm surprised at how easy it is to make, which makes it just that much worse! For my waistline that is. My taste buds are singing to the rafters!
