Forever and a Day
Been forever since I updated, huh? With Galen and I both sick for all of December, the holidays and Kaylee's birthday, we've just been spinnin' busy. Finally slowed down again, whew. We have a walking little girl on our hands now, who is starting to fight her one a day nap. She had better not ditch it, or I'll go insane! I'm enjoying her explorations and learning, she's started to play a few minutes at a time on her own in her room, then bring me a toy to share. It's amusing what she comes up with, sometimes lugging in a big toy or bringing me a shoe. She loves our shoes. And our remotes, which I had to dig out of her toy box on many occasions.
Galen is going to be taking some vacation time soon, and I'm looking forward to it. If the weather is kind to us we should get some great family time outside, which Kaylee goes ga ga over. I've been spending more time at my folks and I let her walk from the car to the front door. It takes us maybe 10 minutes to do so, since the dogs are running circles around her and she has to talk to them. Those dogs might be taller then she is, but she loves 'em anyway.
Must sleep, rinse and repeat, so tired at this time of night yet it's always so hard to fall asleep. Turn off brain!

Sick
It's official, I have strep throat for the first time. Thought I had the flu on Saturday, sure seemed like it. But as my throat got more and more painful, I wasn't able to swallow even the softest foods without choking on it. Even water was hard. Now I have antibiotics and already feel a bit better. I'm still contagious for 24-48 hours, so I'm going to have to miss Kaylee's one year checkup tomorrow. Major bummed. I know she will get shots too, ugh! My mom has kindly offered to come over in the morning to help, since I'm not exactly light on my feet right now. I'm hoping she will go with Galen so he doesn't have to do it alone. It's hard on first time parents to have their kiddos screaming from a shot! Well, maybe harder on the mom, but still, dads are softies too.

Happy Birthday Kaylee!
One whole year, oh my. Kaylee is honest to goodness walking now, and experimenting in a faster walk that's hilarious to watch. She shakes her head crazily like her daddy taught her to do, amusing as well. She loves loves loves her board books, and brings me one every few minutes in the morning. She's pretty good about keeping herself entertained, so I can get a few things done now and then. Including laundry, which she frantically crawls at me to empty the dryer. Her favorite part.
Right now she's squealing in her sonic high pitch happy voice while pulling books off her shelf. My baby! Oh my baby, what ever will I do? Where did the year go? I keeps going faster, doesn't it? Guess that means I'll have to remember to take more pictures.

One Day
One day my right eye, that Kaylee gouged at 5 months, will be normal again. One day. For now it takes about an hour every morning to get it to stop hurting, watering, or making me blind. So annoying! Thanks kiddo.

Learning
Kaylee is getting quick about some things, and utterly oblivious in others. As in, she waves at everything and "talks" to whatever she's waving at. She loves her board books so much it drives me nuts some days. I read through the book with her once and then just flip pages after, otherwise I'm reading the same book at least a dozen times in a row before she puts it down. But now she's figured out that when the pages start running out, mommy is going to say "the end!" and will stop reading, so she turns the pages backwards! Sneaky kiddo that one... As for oblivious, she still doesn't clap. She'll pick it up eventually, but for how much I clap to cheer her on and say good job to this or that, I'm surprised she hasn't yet.
She is dancing to the music on her activity table now, and likes to stop and start it a lot. She also discovered the lights on the ceiling and every time I carry her down the hallway for a change she stretches her neck around to watch the light. Galen introduced her to the lightswitch. Thankfully she can't reach it yet. Last night we were turning off and on the light in our bedroom and she cracked up laughing every time it was turned back on. Who knew?
We are well into 18 month sized clothing, have been since 10 months. She wears size 4-5 shoes and has taken up to 4 steps on her own now (barefoot). She's mastered the lean-and-grab-with-hands-so-feet-can-catch-up move. We very rarely have any true spills now, Kaylee has figured out how to control her 'falls' and gets right back up. She loves to pull all the books off her shelf, as well as all 'her' dvd's off the shelf.
Going outside is the best of the best though. We've had a few rare clear days for December and took her too the park. Who cares that it's 40 degrees outside?! That's why I bought her mittens! Bundle everyone up and she chirps'n'talks the whole ride there. Kaylee loves the swings, we have a roller coaster baby, no doubt.
I was lucky enough to get a babygate from one of the gals in our playgroup, and used part of it to block off our kitchen. Kaylee likes nothing more then to crawl into the kitchen and fling open cupboards while mommy is cooking. Not good! It's been maybe two weeks with the gate and she's sort of accepting it now. She enjoys helping me with the laundry too, which I let her pull out the dry clothes and fling them about. Funny thing is she gets all excited when it's her diapers, I think it's the colors. That's her favorite load of laundry right now. We're working on understanding that wet clothes go in, and she can't pull them right back out yet. Wet clothes are heavier and stick together, so she usually doesn't get much. Oh! And her sock fascination! This kid loves socks! My socks, Galen's socks, and oh-please-yes-socks. I haven't figured it out. Which leaves us with bare feet in the house because there's no way I can keep them on her unless shoes go on right after and we're leaving. Even in the car she will pull off a shoe just to take the sock off and chew on it.
Kaylee is a very adept eater and right now loves my cheesy tuna noodle casserole. Messy to eat yes, but she eats every last noodle. Green beans are her favorite veggie, and it's a toss up between pears or peaches as a fruit. I only have homemade canned pears, which she stuffs so fast into her mouth peaces pop back out. We get store bought canned peaches now and then.
If I find another free moment I'll get more pictures up on shutterfly. Right now Kaylee is bouncing away in her jumperoo watching Baby Einstein. Both of which she loves. 30 minutes of relaxation? HA! Too much to clean up around here for a moment's rest. Rugrats sure make a big mess and mine is no exception.

While the Baby is Away...

First Step!
Kaylee took her first step this evening! We were in her room just after putting her pj's on for the night and she was standing holding onto the rocking chair. I was sitting on the floor and waved at her, so she let go of the chair, waved back and took a step towards me before sitting down. Eeeee! Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke I had her stand against the chair again and beckoned her to me, and she did it again! Eeeee!

11 Months
Eleven months old today. I can't help but look ahead now instead of behind. One month from now and my little baby will be a whole year old. I don't think I can quite comprehend that. Kaylee can now stand a few seconds on her own, and is holding onto one object, letting go, turning and then grabbing next object. She walks circles around her activity table and says 'da da' and 'ma ma'. She's down to one nap a day, and we pray that she sleeps a solid 2 hours or we have a cranky baby by about 3pm. I'm still trying to fix her bedtime from daylight savings. We're up to 6:30pm with the goal being 7pm. Typically she sleeps 12 hours at night. We're down to 2-3 wake up screaming fits a week, but they are rapidly disappearing. We have her bedtime routine down pat and she knows the drill. Dinner, bath, playtime, warm milk and 5 minutes of Nemo then bed. She still loves Finding Nemo. It will be the theme for her first birthday party.
Birthday party! Oh my gosh! The playgroup we're in is amazingly fantastic. I've been to a few birthday parties now and they were organized chaos, but so much fun! I'm tempted to get live goldfish as the party favors, but I think the parents might shoot me, hehe.
On the health front, I'm doing soso. I know that too much fatty foods triggers my Mystery Pain, and this now includes bacon. I wake at night feeling like someone shoved a handful of nettles in my sides. As it is I can only sleep for five hours at a time because of back pain. I see the chiropractor once a week, but only weightloss will help I'm sure. Which I'm working on. Down a pound at the moment, woo!
I've also picked back up my writing. I have high hopes of actually completing a book by the time Kaylee turns 5. The small bit that I have written right now is what I'm working on to refresh my memory on the story itself, though I know that I will end up writing three books to encompass all of the story. It will be based on some roleplaying I did over two years. Wish me luck!

Fast track
We're on the fast track to walking right now. Kaylee loves loves loves to walk around holding our fingers. If we try to stop before she's ready, she pitches a royal fit. She cruses along the couch, windowsill, desks, us, anything. She's started to let go and stand a few seconds before sitting down. Whew! She 'talks' to her books now in a new babble that isn't heard anywhere else, still likes being outside (cold but nice lately, so we went to the park a few times), and eats the same foods that we do. The only 'baby' food she gets is cereal in the morning mixed with plain yogurt.
Thankfully she is sleeping the night through now, though she will wake now and again but put herself back to sleep. Her bedtime was 7pm, but daylight savings has messed that up and I can't get her to stay up past 6pm. She doesn't get up in the morning until 6am though, which is nice. She is cutting back on her naps and that worries me. We're down to one nap a day and it varies when she takes it. Usually 90min either after her morning snack or after lunch. If I could get her to take a longer nap, or two naps, I know it would bump her bedtime back to 7pm. If only! I want to sleep in until 7am. *sigh*
Galen has been working some earlier shifts lately, as in 2am instead of 4am. I think I really prefer the 4am since it gives him time with Kaylee in the evening and we can have a more normal dinner hour. Thankfully it only lasts though this week.
I read 'Heretic's Daughter' by Kathleen Kent for the bookclub in the playgroup I'm in. Very good book! Nothing I would have picked out on my own, but good none the less. Well worth the read. I haven't read a real book in ages! Seems my evenings are always too busy cleaning up or trying to catch up with friends online. Imagine that! Speaking of cleaning, that still needs to be done. Takes at least an hour every night. The things we do for our familys :)

Adventures
I made this post on the forums for the playgroup I'm in, and figured you guys might be amused too.
My story starts on Sunday. We thought Kaylee might be getting sick since she starting having a stuffy/runny nose. It's the cold season and I really wasn't worried. This continued onto the morning of hell for Monday. Cranky, whiny, snotty, pick me up put me down child. Wow. The nice thing is Nemo is still an instant fix for when I reached the end of my patience. But it gets better! Kaylee loves being outside and going places. So I get the bright idea to take her to Target with me and return a bath bag I bought in hopes of keeping the toys at bay. It didn't stick to our bathtub.
Did ya see that post I made about target, and coupons? Yeah, forgot those. At least she was happy as a clam to be outside and a complete angel. Get home, eat lunch. Get call from my chiropractor, wants to know if I can come in early since I'm the last appointment before the guy goes to lunch. Suuuure, why not. In and out with Kaylee in her carseat, happy as a clam. I'm dreading the explosion. We stop by Freds to pick up hubs on his way home from work. Kaylee passes out in the car. She snorts because her nose is plugged up. Get home, she's still asleep. Unbuckle sleeping child, pull her from the car, asleep on my shoulder all the way inside to her crib. Adorable! Definitely wondering if I dodged the bullet.
Hubs and I decided to ditch our Comcast internet/cable to save $20 a month with Quest. When I called last Thursday to get this set up I was assured that the cable modem we have would work just fine and we wouldn't have to buy or rent one from them. HA! Go to install the software that was delivered to us Monday and nothing works. I call Quest. Was told it's a problem with our router. I got shuffled over to Linksys. They would be happy to help me for a tech support fee of $29.99. Yeeah, not gonna fly. Hubs turn. He calls Quest. Gets someone moderately more intelligent then the dipshit I got. Lo! Turns out our modem won't work, we'll have to buy one from them. And the topper? Their server is through a normal phone jack. Guess where the only phone jack is in our living room? We discuss ways to rearrange our furniture in the crackerbox that is our living room so cats don't eat cords and Kaylee doesn't a hold of cords.
Monday night! I get so sick to my stomach I'm past thinking I might puke. I want to puke. So badly, just to make it stop. Hubs is still up at 6pm watching Kaylee while I dance with the porcelain, he has to work at 2am. Thankfully I get 'better' and am able to bathe Kaylee so hubs can get some sleep. What does my snotty cranky cheese covered child do? She squeals happily at me so I'd look up, and wave! For the first time! I had to drag hubs out of bed so he could watch, and sure enough she waved again for him. Adorable!
Tuesday! Hubs drives out to the Quest store in Van Mall. I deal with snotty but happy Kaylee. Being sans car, I called JP and cancelled, but figured you guys wouldn't want a snotty baby around anyway. Didja miss me? Didn't think you'd have this long ass story to read, did ya? hehe. When hubs got home from Quest, we then proceeded to move ALL the furniture in our living room. Two computer desks and a couch. Ouch, it's where we live people. EVERYTHING lands on our desks. We're computer geeks. Nerds. It's Our Life! We might as well have been moving the whole house it took so damn long. Plus the couch, but that wasn't even 90 seconds of the HOURS it took to disassemble, move and reassemble the desks. All this to save $20 a month. Is it worth it? Oh yeah. Was Kaylee confused when she woke from her nap? Hell no, she had new windows to look out of!

10 Months
Kaylee is now 10 months old, as of Sunday. I know I don't update nearly as often anymore, but that kiddo just takes up so much time! She crawls with the best of them, pulls herself up on everything, cruses along the couch/windowsill/toys/parents, and generally gets into everything we don't want her to. It's a daily battle to remember to dump the catfood out of their dishes before she gets to them. Yes she has eaten her first catfood! Eww.
We are experimenting with all sorts of foods now, she eats mostly what we eat. Peas are our newest addition and she loves them. Not so much fun coming out the other end tho! Ha! I've also done the organic debate, weighed the pros and cons, and came out with what I can afford. Kaylee gets organic milk and yogurt with some organic veggies when they are on sale. I'm concerned about the growth hormones in cow's milk, especially with all the new information and girls hitting puberty so much sooner. We can't afford to buy exclusively organic, but if I could I would.
Of course I would write more, but Ms. Kaylee is getting into trouble, again!
