First Nats Game

Remember how I said I was way behind in posting to the blog and I wasn't going to try to catch you up? Well, I just couldn't help myself. I just came across some photos from the summer when we took the kids to their first Major League Baseball game to watch the Nationals play the Atlanta Braves.

While Jon hails from Georgia, our allegiance now roots for the home team. The kids loved it. Specifically, they loved the ice cream. For the first 5 innings all we heard was, "Can I have ice cream?!?!!" Once we finally caved and let them have some, they settled down and enjoyed the game. Carter and I sang Take Me Out to the Ball Game during the 7th inning stretch (Of course, that is when Miss M had to check out the public restrooms and lucky Jon won the coin toss).

The first few kids into the stadium that day got Ryan Zimmerman jerseys. Moira's is a little big, but she doesn't care. She Rocks it!

Carter has his Game Face on. This is serious.

Here comes the pitch!
Unfortunately, the Nats lost that day, but the kids didn't care. They were too busy looking forward to the Metro ride home.

Pura Vida!

Jon and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary earlier this month. We had been planning on doing something big, we just didn't know exactly what. Finally, when we were less than two months away, we decided to go to Costa Rica - cause we are spontaneous like that. (Ahem.) For weeks in advance I listed the kids daily schedule and routine; I built a massive contact list that included the local urgent care and pharmacy; and stocked the fridge and pantry with all the wholesome food I knew my children would eat (in vain, I'm sure). I begged the kids to be good, said our goodbyes then boarded the plane...then did not speak to them for one whole week! Thank God for Grammas!!!

Jon and I spent the week bike-riding, kayaking, hiking, and basically lounging around doing nothing by the pool all with a pina colada in hand (er, two hands). I am not going to lie, it was bliss! That is about all I can say about it. I am so thankful for the opportunity to get away and just check out together. We have not had this much time to ourselves in over 7 years.

Costa Rica was amazing and we already can't wait to take the kids back with us next time. They were a little jealous when the heard about the water slide.

Enjoy the photos!

Beautiful sunsets

The fattest iguana we have ever seen

Lake Arenal

Cheesy tourist photo. You're welcome!

Spider Monkey - a rare find as they are endangered.

Guava fresh off the tree in the middle of the rain forest...really amazing until the worms started wriggling. Jon is so proud of my adventurousness. Ahem.

Really big old tree. And more cheesy tourists.

Beautiful forests

Some of Jon's mad photog skills

After hiking we lounged around in the natural hot springs with views of the volcano. A! Mazing!

More phenomenal sunsets - this time with volcanic views

Jon had been trying to capture this guy on his camera for days but it was literally teasing him. Jon would chase him one way then he would duck into a hiding place then run out the back way. It was hysterical to watch. One of the last mornings he was sitting outside our room. Jon was so proud to come out the victor.

We played a game of I Spy by the lake. It was amazing the animals we saw in just a few minutes.

Jon's timing is awesome. Very humbling.

I just can't get enough of his handsomeness. Love you babe!

See that tiny dot of a rock to the right? That is where we kayaked to one day. It is a lot farther than it looks!

Gorgeous beaches!!!

We had the opportunity to have a professional photographer snap some photos of us while we were on the beach one day. We were thankful to capture some of this precious time together. We have been so blessed these past 10 years. It has been a major challenge at times, but we are thankful for each other and learn so much every day. We have been recharged and look forward to a bright future together. Thank you for all of your support, your encouragement, and prayers.

To the future!

 Love, Jon and Mariah
