The Season Has Arrived!

The 2012 high school baseball season has FINALLY arrived!  The 2 weeks between the time they can start practicing and their first game seemed like ages!

Opening weekend they played at Terry on Friday night and lost- then redeemed themselves on Saturday against Hazlehurst, winning 11-4.  Mom and Dad came down to spend the weekend with us, and Bran met us at the game.  He gave me some pointers on catching action shots with my new lens!

Last night we played Pearl in the first game at Viking field and won 11-4.  Even though it was a yucky day and most people thought that it was going to be rained out, it ended up being a great night for baseball.

Now that baseball has started, the days and weeks seem to fly by!

Green

Since there is a rival school in town whose primary color is green, I do not own any green clothing items!
Today while I was sewing I noticed there were tons of different shades of green thread in my box.
So today it's all about the thread.

Inside My Bathroom Cabinet

This summer when we renovated our master bathroom, we converted the single sink to a double sink- so the result was a greatly reduced amount of space underneath the sink.  This is the only cabinet in our bathroom.  It hold towels and it does its job well.

Shoes

I love shoes but don’t buy new one often because I don’t go many places that I can’t wear what I already have.  Recently I was shopping and found these beauties, and just had to buy them.  They were wonderfully priced, and I couldn’t pass them up.  I have the perfect dress to wear them with, and already know the event to which they will be worn first!

Where I Work

Where do I work? At a school.DSC02749These were pictures of my classroom the day of kindergarten orientation.  There are now words on the word wall.  Pocket Charts now hang on the door and wall above the multi-colored shelf to tell students which station they will be working in that day.DSC02751These tables now have little 5 or 6 year old bodies that gather around them to learn.  Those computers are a favorite place for students to work.DSC02752That stereo plays music each day that teaches a skill or reinforces a concept.  The blue mini pocket chart hold sight words that the kids can read!DSC02753This room is where personalities are developed, where everyone’s character is important, community is built, minds are molded, and where students are loved.  DSC02755

This is where I work.

Time

Slugger greeted me at the door like this today!

He apparently spent his time digging holes outside in the mud.

It was bath time. 40 minutes of lathering, scrubbing, and fighting resulted in a clean pup.

Something New

Cold baseball games require a source of heat other than a blanket!

Outdoor heaters are wonderful in 28 degree weather!

The Southern Belle T-shirts that the diamond girls sold for the team came in today as well. I love a new t-shirt.

Phone

phone

Did anyone else have a phone like this one?  These were the rage when I was in elementary school!  My friends and I would call each other just so we could see the phone ring- and light up.  We would spend hours on the phone calling each other- but what in the world did we talk about? I don’t talk for hours on my phone now- how did I do it then? Maybe because we had these cool phones, that had terrible reception.

Happy Light Up Phone Day!

Love Languages

Josh and I did the "Five Languages of Love" study during our premarital counseling. The hours spent reading that book and taking the survey has saved us many arguments and sparked lots of conversations that begin with, "Wait before you make that decision remember my #1 love language is....".

If I could give any couple one piece of advise, it would be to read that book, take the survey, and have your partner do the same. It will save heartache- and it helps love your partner in their language!

On Valentine's Day there are many ways to show your love for someone- but in my humble opinion, they should know that you love them- and you should tell them daily.

So what does the 5 languages of love have to do with this??

Homemade chocolate covered strawberries should be the 6th love language.

Between our Closets

Many times I have admitted that I'm not the perfect wife.

I don't mind doing laundry, but I really despise putting it away.

That is probably why the space between our closets looks the way it does.

During football season the laundry is always done, folded, and all put away by bedtime on Sunday night. It's a joint effort. I wash and dry- then Josh folds as he watches football. We each put our own clothes in their proper place (which is not on the living room floor or the bench at the end of the bed).

Baseball season- not so much. We are lucky to have clean socks and towels on Monday!

We are both on a major workout kick right now which means two additional outfits a day. Plus the Coach has uniforms and practice gear he needs washed.

So that means at least 4 tops and 4 bottoms are being worn a day. Add in socks and undies, that's a lot of laundry.

Our pile looks like this after one week. Please understand I'm not complaining- Just keeping it real!

Makes Me Happy

Today the picture is of something that makes me happy. Here are two.
1) My hair is now long enough to go in a ponytail. The laborious process of growing my hair out has begun.
2) The new camera strap that my Mom and Dad gave me for my birthday. It makes the camera look so sassy!

Self Portrait

Snapped this photo on the way to dinner with my hubby.
Josh got home early from practice and it was so much fun to eat dinner and then browse around Tractor Supply with him. Because he works so much this time of year, I especially cherish every moment with him, even if it involves looking at power tools followed by a quiet night at home.

Front Doors

December was a crazy month, in more ways than one, and I never got around to posting about the wreaths on my front doors.

This year, for the first time since we’ve been married, we didn’t host Christmas at our home.  Since Mom and Dad have a new home, we went there.  Because we were not going to be home during the holiday, I decided that I would get some new wreaths, and let the front doors be our only decorations so that we wouldn’t have lots of stuff to take down and put away once we returned home from Nashville.

I bought the materials and was so excited about making some deco mesh wreaths!  I’ve seen them everywhere, and really like them but didn’t like the price tag.  Mom and I thought we could make them- ours didn’t turn out so well.DSC_0011-40

Let me be honest here: the ones we made were ugly and I didn’t like them at all so I took them to my friend Ellen, and she rescued them and made the awfulness look AMAZING!

Sun

Since the sun goes down so early, I wasn't able to catch a picture of it today, as I was still at work until after dark.

But I was able to capture a picture of my favorite four-legged furry son!
Sun/Son
In the South we pronounce them the same way!

Button

Each night as we get ready to slumber, the Coach says "hit the button please". He is referring to the light button on our remote control for the ceiling fan.

Stranger

Josh and I went to visit our friends that had a baby boy yesterday. Josh said he doesn't hold other people's babies, but I snapped this pic when he said, "pass that baby over"!

Yesterday JDM was a stranger- but today he's no longer a stranger to us!!

My View Today

I didn’t realize that the February Photo a Day was a blog topic too- I just thought it was on twitter- so here it goes.  I like challenges like this because it gives me blogging topics.

Today was the first day of baseball practice!  The boys word SUPER hard and they had a great practice!35
