Te Paki

Te Paki, originally uploaded by Jin Han.

Via Flickr:
On the way back from Cape Reinga, I drove into Te Paki just for a look at the sand dune. I could not believe my eyes when I climbed up the mountain of sand, the dune stretches as far as your eyes can see.

I did not feel like walking further into the dune as I was alone and without any mobile phone signal, but this place was pretty amazing.

Cape Reinga

Cape Reinga, originally uploaded by Jin Han.

Via Flickr:
I woke up at 5am in the morning and drove 40 minutes from Te Kao (where I spent the night) to Cape Reinga and I was rewarded with having the whole place to myself.

Very unusual considering that it has "over 120,000 visitors a year and around 1,300 cars arriving per day during peak season."

I walked up and down the place 3 times to capture different lights during the sunrise.

As I had mentioned in my Instagram (instagram.com/jinhanteng) before, the drive up to Cape Reinga from Auckland was pretty epic.

Roadtrip

Via Flickr:
Auckland > East Coast Road > Thames > Coromandel Bay > Whitianga > Tarua > Thames > Auckland. 411km covered and plenty of photo stops.

I forgot where I took this actually, must be somewhere in between Whitianga and Tarua. The gloomy weather wasn't that good for photos but this East Coast route has some quite magnificent view.

One of the barracks a top North Head at Devonport.

This push bike served me well for the best part of my ride around Devonport until the chain snapped when I was riding up Mount Victoria. Luckily it was the last leg of my round trip at Devonport and I parked the bike mid way up the hill, walked up to finish the tour and then came rolling down back to the wharf to return the bike.

This is a view of Rangitoto Island from North Head at Davenport.

I took a ferry to Davenport in the morning, hired a push bike and rode around the little peninsular. The views around this place is awesome and I can't wait to bring Olivia and Xavier here.

Chinese New Year

It was Chinese New Year so we thought we would bring the children - especially Olivia who is almost an Australian now - to Chinatown to celebrate and to look at some of the chinese traditions. We wouldn't normally do this in Kuala Lumpur because we would be staying at home and all the extended family would come to our house. So perhaps this is how we will celebrate Chinese New Year in Sydney from now on, a visit to Chinatown to watch some Lion Dance and have Yum Char after that.

It was fun carrying Xavier in the pack as he gets to see and not making much fuss compared to when he's in the pram, and also I can get my hands on my camera and not worrying about holding on the pram.

Christmas

Christmas day was spent at home, opening pressies and doing some cooking, just the family and we really did enjoy it.
