The Four Basic Things

The other night, I was lying in bed reading with Emma. We were reading a book that Grandma and Grandpa Putnam gave us about the revolutionary war. She was wondering why there were so many wars in the history of our country. I gave her some reasons and told her that a lot of it was because men wanted more power and more money. Here is our conversation. . .

Emma: Why do people want so much money?

Me: They want to buy stuff I guess

Emma: Gosh, Mom, there are really just four basic things people need.

Me: Oh, what are those?

Emma: food, shelter, clothing, and love (I think she has been learning about this in Social Studies, and she was convinced this was all they needed!)

Me: Well, you are right Emma those are four basic needs that everyone must have. The problem is that you get kids and they want stuff like wii's and nintendo DS and cell phones and Ipods and stuff and so then you need more money.

Emma: No mom, all people really need are those four basic things, besides, I really don't want all that stuff, just heely's!

Well, that clears it up!

Mr. MicFizzle

Each night, while we put the other kids to bed, Emma is quietly in her room reading or playing or drawing. Tonight, when I went in to kiss her goodnight, she presented me with this poem. I thought I would share it.

Someone who smells
Has lots of spells
Might be a wizard,
Charlie MicFizzard.
Now, that wizard has lots of potions
He likes to play at the Oceans.

I don't know why he throws a big pie,
Maybe he'll die.

He does have a pad that will become sad if you make it glad.

*I would like to know what a dizzell is, perhaps I might want one for Valentines day?

Speaking of Valentines Day, my husband got me a GPS! I am so excited about it. Talk about a gift that I really needed!

Finally Getting Around to Blogging

Over this last month, I kept wondering if I had anything to blog, but with everything being busy, I just didn't remember we had the New Year's Eve pictures. So, I'm sorry for not getting those up earlier.

We just celebrated Ben's 7th. For his birthday, I took him to get a haircut. Then we went to Academy Sports to look at basketball shoes (all the sales are on now). I didn't find any shoes, but we found some sweet kicks for Ben, as well as a Dallas Mavs shirt. He got to wear them that night to basketball practice. He loved all the cards, presents and money everyone sent him ... THANK YOU!

Emma and I went to a Daddy-Daughter Dance tonight. It was fun and loud. We stood a half-hour in line waiting for pictures. Then another 15 minutes to get food. Then we danced a bit, played around and then waited in line to get her face painted, but it was taking so long we decided to leave. We stopped off at Sonic and then came home. It was so much fun for her! Mille would have loved it I think, but it was a little past her bedtime and she didn't get a nap today.

Fritz and Erick

Fritz is a heater hog. He'll sit there as long as the heater is on. I have to sti by the heater at night before I go to bed. My feet get especially cold, so I warm them up before going to bed. Fritz will nuzzle right next to me while I sit by the heater.

I put a tutu on Fritz today. The kids loved it. Fritz was a little nervous. He yawns every time he gets nervous and you can see that he was yawning when I took this picture.
