Applique, New Idea (for me) & a GIVE AWAY!

I haven't made a quilt with applique for quite a while, so I decided to pull out a pattern I bought at the Sydney Quilt Show, raided my stash and got started.
The "new idea" (for me) is making some 2 tier cake stands.
... well to be honest, "I" find the plates (at garage sales), "I" source the cake stems (on eBay), and "I" sweet talk my other half, and "he" drills the holes in the plates.
I am over the moon with how these plates have turned out.  I had enough of these plates to make 2 stands.

Now the GIVE AWAY!!!
I was wondering on how I could entice more people to visit my blog and maybe become a "follower"?
TAH DAH!... have a GIVE AWAY.
I have made a Christmas Themed Tea-Towel and a Dish-Cloth to give away to one lucky person (Overseas people are also welcome to enter) who can answer the following question:

"What is the name of the child's book titled quilt I just finished making & recently blogged about?"

So pass the word, about the GIVE AWAY... I will draw the winner on Sept 16th at 10.20am (EST Australia)...why then you ask?...well 10 years ago at that time & day, I help deliver my Grand-daughter, "Jordarna".

Quilting...

Just a bit of "show & tell"... all commissioned quilts.
The above owl quilt was quilted with the stitch "Buzzing Bees"...
just love how the 2 bees fell into the bottom corners of this square on the quilt...
then this quilt had "Maggie's Roses" as the stitch...
...and lastly, stitched with "African Foliage".

Mum's Quilt Quilted!

As mentioned in my blog here, Mum finished a queen size quilt a few weeks ago, but due to the steady flow of commission quilts I have been quilting, poor Mum had to wait a bit to see how her quilt turned out...
...the above photo looks a bit washed out, but the close up below shows the lovely colours...

I bought the kit for it while in the States last year... we tweeked it a bit from the original instructions.
Mum and I are very happy with the finished quilt.

...and yes, it too will be for sale ($350) at the December quilt sale.

Cat in the Hat Quilt FINISHED!

At long last, I have finished Dr Seuss's "The Cat in the Hat" Quilt.

I started this quilt back in June and posted about it here... and now...hallelujah! it is finished.

as I made the pattern up as I went...
It is a ONE OF A KIND

it was meant to fit a single bed.... but it just kept growing and growing....
it fits a queen size bed very well (as shown on my queen sized bed, in the above photo)...
so it would look great on a single bed, as it will hang over the sides like a bed spread!
I even bought a brand new copy of the book, to prove it has the same pictures as the book...
I will be selling the quilt and the book together at my quilt sale in December....
...unless someone buys it beforehand.

FOR SALE!!!
Quilt and Book for $400

any takers???

The Cat in the Hat

I finished making The Cat in the Hat quilt top today.
The photo below, only shows the top middle panel... I haven't photographed the whole quilt yet.
As mentioned in an earlier blog post, I didn't have a pattern to follow and I just made it up as I went.

I wanted to end up with a single bed sized quilt... well... it sort of grew beyond that...
...using the cut up panel below ...
  it ended up measuring 78" x 97"  !!!!!
Ah well...it can be a bed-spread instead of a quilt!
Now I have to find backing and quilt it!

I bought a new copy of the book "The Cat in the Hat"...
...so I can sell the quilt with the book as an added extra!

Are you sick of seeing quilts? - hope not!

Here are 3 quilts that I have quilted for lovely ladies.
The above quilt is for a baby girl -  so cute.  I stitched it with "Hearts & Swirls" .
Then a local lady was coming with one quilt, but ended up bringing two.
The top one is more a snuggle rug size, and the bottom one is in flannel and about a queen size.

As of tonight, I am up to date again with quilting and will try to finish sewing my Cat in the Hat quilt...however tomorrow is another day and who knows what will come in the mail?
(I should do some housework too!)

Dainty Pink Quilt

Alas, this is not a quilt I made, but I did quilt it!

The stitch I used was called "Maggie's Roses".....  the quilt had roses & tulips on it, I opted for the rose stitch...the fact I couldn't find a "tulip" stitch might have something to do with my decision!

After finishing the commissioned quilt, I got back onto my "The Cat in the Hat" quilt.... talk about one of a kind!...  I am making up the pattern as I go, it certainly is a challenge....

Quilts Galore!- Sewn and Knitted

Since my last post, I have been either chained to the quilting machine or going to the dentist!
..the dentist is still trying to locate the problem, eliminating one thing at a time...did you know that each tooth has 3 nerves?.. and if one nerve dies, then problems start happening... he wants to save my tooth... a slow and annoying process...the dentist and I are certainly on first name basis now!

Now onto more enjoyable things...Quilts!
First, this quilt was the 5th one I have quilted for Robyn in Tasmania.
She asked for the "meander" stitch.
Then a local lady dropped off a cot quilt for her niece or nephew (yet to be born) in Switzerland.  We decided on a "baby things" pattern with white thread.  (Doesn't show up in this photo).
Then my sister dropped off 2 lap quilts... I decided on the meander stitch on the cat one...

..then on the black & blue one, I matched the roses in the fabric with a rose stitch.
I phoned her to tell her they were done and her reply was "already?".

Before all the above quilts arrived, my Mum finished this queen sized quilt, and I eventually quilted it today.  I haven't photographed the whole quilt yet, but when I do, I will show it on my blog.

After Mum finishes a quilt, she has a break from sewing and does something else, so she knitted a blue & white baby rug for me to sell.
This rug is to go with a pink & white baby rug that I knitted (if you click here, it will take you to it) for my sale in December.  The patterns for this rug came from a book.
As there aren't any quilts to be quilted at the moment, I got back onto my "Cat in the Hat" quilt... as I am making it up as I sew, it is not a quick project.
