Journey to Singapore

Out of nowhere, I've been transferred to Singapore for a new position...
Working under same company but different location and 'world'.

Got the information of the offer when I've been confirmed by management during mid of November 2011. Hooray!!! PASSED my probation for 6 mths time.

Started off with room hunting on 16th Jan 2012 and it is a real time consuming and energy draining task for me, a typical Malaysian who has no idea about Singapore.

Got a nice cozy room at the price of $700 with air-conditioned but without wi-fi located at Queenstown which is actually a good location at the central heart of the Singapore. I really do like it much and the only concern is the price is too high for my budget. Negotiated as usual human nature and got it at $680. Right at the same time, received a call from a colleague and she told me to hold on, which I'm deeply regretted until now after this incident happened in the past few weeks. Reason is, the room been taken at night on the same day.

As the time is getting closer and I have to return to Malaysia on the 19th, I got myself the next alternative choice at Boon Lay, far from central also where my future office is situated.

With a price of $630 without air-conditioned but with wi-fi, I'm actually a bit down and blue after I calculated the estimated expenses which I needed to survive while staying in this room in Boon Lay is actually ended up cheaper of $10 only as if compare to the Queenstown. From Queenstown to Tanjong Pagar (Where my office will be), MRT charges per month will be the $60 range while from Boon Lay will raised to $100 range!!!

Distance of travel for work will be 15 minutes (Queenstown) to 30 minutes (Boon Lay) which I'm truly fine for it, but savings of $10 at Boon Lay property without air-conditioned but with unlimited Wi-fi, is it actually worth it?

Oh my...
It's so not worth it from my point of view...
But I know there will definitely be pros and cons for each decision.

Piece of advise to all, study the transportation charges before you decide which area and room to take.
