Our LITTLE Man Riley

So as many of you know at Riley's last Dr. appointment he didn't meet their expectations for his weight so we had to make a follow up appointment at 8 months. Well, I took him in today! I was sure things were going to be better since he has been eating more solids. Well, too bad for me. It's not better! I STILL STARVE MY CHILD! Ok, so I really don't...but at his last apt he weighed 15 lbs 2 oz and today, 2 months later, he weighed 16 lbs 5 oz...a total weight gain of only 1 lb 3 oz! WHAT THE HECK???? He did also grow an inch and is now 27 inches...but he is still not on the charts for his weight. We now get to go back at 10 months to check him again...the Dr. said that if at this point he still isn't gaining a whole lot and is leveling off then we will need to address the situation in a different manner (what does that mean...arrest me!?) Oh well....I really like my Dr. and I really do feed my child! He is so stinkin' cute and has been an amazing baby for Jeff and I. We honestly couldn't have been any more blessed.

This is a picture of Riley getting into trouble! I put him in his crib the other day so I could hop in the shower...when I came out I went into his room and found him like this...to the untrained eye it looks like nothing...but you are wrong. He broke his mobile IN HALF! That little stinker...those things cost like $50 and I wasn't planning on buying a new one for each child!

Bang Bang and Money

So my friend Liz called me up today to see if I wanted to go to a late night movie at the Kaysville dollar theater. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 was showing and we totally wanted to see it! So the movie started at 9:20 and we got there in plenty of time. At first we were the only people in the theater but then a few other girls came in...well at the last second this older man came in and sat down near us. Well there we are enjoying are movie and this guy whips out a briefcase...Liz and I look at each other like what the heck is going on. So we get scared...I mean that is a normal reaction for 2 girls in a dark theater, watching a chick flick when some random dude whips out a brief case. So now we are thinking we are going to get shot. So we move to the back by the door. Well he starts shuffling around again so we BOLT...I mean run out of there as fast as possible. We feel like idiots because we are acting like we are 12, so to cover up we go to the consession stand and ask the old man working when the show is over...we still have an hour. So we go back in and sit by the door again...so a few minutes later the guy is at it again and we are sure NOW must be the time we are going to get shot...so AGAIN we run out of the theater...meanwhile, I am sure the other 4 girls in there are whispering obsenities about how annoying we are (and rightfully so). Anyway, I go running out and turn around and Liz isn't there...I figure she must be shot but I'm not going back in because I have a husband and a baby. Then all of a sudden she is busting through the door, so I start running again. I look down at the floor and I can't believe my eyes. There is a PILE of $20's just laying there. I pick it up and count it...there is $140.00! I look at Liz and exclaim "It's the money you lost last week!!!!!!!" See Liz lost $160 last Friday and she looked everywhere...we were POSITIVE it was gone...but low and behold here is her money! We ask the consession stand man again if anyone has come out of their movie since our last incident and he confidently tells us no...so it really IS her money! So instead of feelings like bigger idiots and still being scared of being shot we left the theater...an hour early...and came home to our warm beds without the threat of being shot...we'll just have the rent the movie instead!

A Little Piece of My Mind...

This might offend some, so read at your own risk, I'm here to share a little bit of frustration. WHY do people go on missions if they are just going to go home an become inactive? WHY did you preach to me about how important it is to get married in the temple if you are going to turn around and NOT get married in the temple but somewhere else with someone who dresses totally immodestly, NOT be active, NOT wear your garmets, etc etc. I'm not going to say your mission was a waste of time because without missionaries I wouldn't be where I am today, but I can tell you I am frustrated with EVERYONE becoming inactive, EVERYONE getting temple divorces, EVERYONE not even getting married in the temple...DON'T go preach if you don't believe in it because I am sick of turning around and having the people who made such a big difference in my life not even being REMOTELY active. So excuse me if I BELIEVE in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and am a little bit hurt.

Bathrooms and Ducks!

This weekend we had a BLAST! On Saturday I had to work, but came home full of energy early enough that we could go enjoy ourselves that night. We weren't exactly sure what we wanted to do but then it came to me! I called up my friend Liv and invited ourselves over...haha! Well not EXACTLY...she did tell me awhile ago I could come over whenever I felt like it. Her and her husband bought a house sometime this spring/summer and have been doing some awesome renovations. I wanted to see them in person instead of just in pictures, especially their AMAZING bathroom. So we headed over there and had lots of fun visiting. Riley managed to yack on Jeff, himself, and their red carpet in the kitchen. However, Maddie, Liv and Kev's dog, licked it up...GROSS...but I guess he is a good housekeeper lol. Then we played in the living room. Maddie was super excited to jump all over us and play with Riley. It was super funny when she licked Riley's face...he had the BEST reaction and I wish we could have caught it on video. Then Riley chased Maddie around the living room. They had a blast together and it was awesome to see Liv and Kev again...it's been wayyyyyy too long!

On Sunday we had made plans to get together with some other friends! We had Ashlynn and Craig over for dinner. She is another great friend of mine that I don't see nearly enough. Let me tell you, I am now a duck pro! See her husband likes to hunt, especially duck, and since hunting season is upon us I decided to ask him about it. I don't think he knew what he was getting into when he agreed to answer my questions, and my poor husband is embarassed to be married to me. I FREAKED out when I found out Craig has DEAD DUCKS in his freezer. The SAME freezer he keeps his chicken and veggies and stuff in! He wants to stuff them..wierd, a little, I know, but truly interesting as well. He told us how you go about stuffing a duck and WHY in the heck you would want to. We also learned what you wear when duck hunting, what dogs do when they go with you, how to train a dog to duck hunt (It's not like on the Nintendo game..I asked) and many other interesting facts. Did you know you can hunt swan? I thought that was interesting...I asked what you do with it's neck when you stuff it because it is so long...anyway, we won't go into details. But seriously, this is really neat! We had lots of laughs and things I won't get into. I think I am going to be a grouse for Halloween....it's like a chicken that lives in the woods. We'll see :)

A New Tag!

It has been awhile since I have been tagged...and that's ok, because I have been super busy lately and haven't had a whole lot of time to blog. However, recently I have noticed tags on my friends blogs and was feeling a little jealous...so thank you Diana for tagging me! Ok here are the rules:

1. Link to person who tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 random/weird facts about yourself.
3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your list, and include links to their blogs.
4. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Ok so here it goes!

1. When I was like 5 I was watching Punky Brewster and eating potato sticks at the same time. I wasn't paying attention and I bit the top of my finger off!

2. Four of my teeth are fake.

3. Whenever my mom and I get together we pee in our pants at least once :)

4. I wasn't scared one bit to be a new mom...until he came home!

5. I never make the bed.

6. I used to try and convince my mom to write fake notes to my friends in elementary school telling them we had a pet monkey LOL

7. I used to hate my ward...but now I love it!!

Tag you're it: Hollie, Becky, Zjani, Jen H., Hayley, Michelle, and Hillary

The Smith's Adventure for Parker

So the other day I had to run to the store to grab some freezer bags. So there I am on the isle when I hear this boy yelling....I was totally confused and thought that he must be beating up his brother or something. I mean common we are in the grocery store what the heck are you doing? So being the nosy person I can be, I stop and listen some more. Again the boy starts yelling, however this time I am able to decipher WHAT he is saying.

"Common Parker you can do it! It's not much farther. We are almost there. You can do it! Parker, use all your might, mind and strength!"

Then two small boys pass by the isle I am on each carrying 2 gallons of milk! Parker, I assume is the smaller one, about 4 years old, and is in pure agony. He squeals, "I can't go any further! MOM WHERE ARE YOU?????" Tears start streaming down him face. His older, but still young, brother encourages him "Parker you can do it! See we're here!" And they triumphantly make it to the check out.

It was probably the cutest thing I have seen from a stranger in a long time! Parker looked so determined but in so much pain from those heavy gallons of milk, one in each hand. I bet you he is a better person because of it :) Anyway, I love going out in public...people watching is the best!

4-8-15-16-23-42

For those of you who don't understand the title of this blog...you should be grateful! Well, that is a little bit of an exaggeration. So back in April when my parents came to visit they brought Seasons 1-3 of Lost on DVD for us to "watch". However, the word "watch" doesn't even come close to the correct description...it's more like for us to become obsessed with! For the past few weeks all Jeff and I do with our spare time is watch Lost. Our house has come apart at the seams, we sometimes neglect Riley and just give him a bottle so we can watch (ok so that is a little extreme- we normally watch at night and he falls asleep anyway), we dream about it, and we can't wait for the next episode. So my ranting on this is for a couple of reasons. When I first started to make my phone calls to my parents about this my dad was rattling off these numbers and I didn't get it. When we finally got that part of the show he confessed to me he had bought a MegaBucks Lottery Ticket with these numbers...him and probably a million other avid viewers (except those of us living in Utah!) Another reason for this confession of my Lost obsession again has to do with my dad. As most of you know he has cancer...well, he started to loose his hair the other day and instead of waiting for it to all fall out and to look like a patch work he shaved it off and he looks like Lock!!!!!! Crazy huh? Leave a comment if you agree...or disagree!

Game Night!

Hey Rock Creek Ladies..we are at it again! This time we are going to have a game night! It is going to be on Thursday, October 16 @ 7 PM...AT MY HOUSE! Anyway, like always ANYONE AND EVERYONE from the Rock Creek Ward that is a girl is invited! For your friends or neighbors that are not in the blogging community, call them up or walk over to their house and let them know about it! We are thinking about having people bring a small treat they'd like to share (if you are able to do so) and your favorite game (if you have one)! Don't feel obligated to do both or either, just come if that's what you'd like to do!!! I'm super excited for this..I think it will be a great night :) Leave me a comment if you plan on attending and if you plan on bringing anything!

6 Month Check-Up

So Riley was 6 months a little over a week ago, but I waited to make his appointment for a few reasons: I didn't want them to tell me, again, that he wasn't old enough and Jeff's brother got married this weekend and I wanted Riley to have his shots AFTER the wedding in case there are any issues. Well, it was your typical appointment....minus one minor detail...
Head Circumference: 43 in (normal)
Height: 26 in (25th percentile)
Weight: 15 lbs 2 oz (NOT ON THE CHARTS)
So that last detail is where the problem lies...the Dr. is a little worried because Riley isn't really gaining a lot of weight. I PROMISE we feed him...tons in fact, but the little bugger isn't gaining weight. So we have to go back to the Dr. at 8 months and then again for his regular appointment at 9 months. He didn't loose weight, but on the chart he started dropping, so they want to check him more often to make sure he is ok...but let me assure all of you...we aren't STARVING our child!!!

When Life Throws You A Curveball...

So I know a lot of you have been following my Dad's super random illness. He got sick back in May after visiting, but it wasn't your normal sickness. Anyway, it started in his back and it was really bad, he could hardly sleep the pain was so bad. Then his hands started to swell twice the size they were supposed to be. All of this was random and he hadn't been in an accident or anything. In fact, he had a physical in March and it was the healthiest he had ever been. Well, he had been going to a rheumatologist and they weren't exactly sure what was going on. So anyway, he went to the Dr. like three weeks ago and his lymph nodes were swollen so they sent him to a hematologist. Well long story short, they did a bunch of tests and he had a biopsy. He went to the Dr. today and got the results. He has Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. For a non-medical explanation he has cancer. He starts chemo on Tuesday and it is every 3 weeks for 6-8 treatments. He will loose all of his hair. So that is all we really know right now. Your prayers will do our family a great deal of help. I thank all of you guys for your love and support.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

So earlier this morning I was on the phone with my friend Courtney. Whenever Courtney and I talk we always end up on the most random of topics and I'm not sure how we get there. Well today we somehow started talking about things from our childhood and it made me ponder about the things I used to do and LOVE...so here is a walk down memory lane:

I LOVED the board games: Pretty Pretty Princess and Girl Talk. In fact, I loved them so much that in 2nd grade I locked Megan Coleman out of my bedroom because she wouldn't play Girl Talk with me! From what I can remember PPP was this game where your goal was to get all the dress up stuff and you would be the princess if you did. In GT it was like a game of truth and dare. If you didn't do the dare or you weren't honest in the truth you had to put on a red "pimple" sticker (please see the model to the right!!!!)

In elementary school it was also way cool to have a skip it and an American Girl Doll...so I did just that! I had Samantha and I am pretty sure my mom still has it at our house or she has given it to my niece to play with. I'm not sure what ever happened to my skip it...but I'd be interested to see how many rotations were on it if we could find it somewhere!

In Jr. High my now two best friends Jen O. and Stacey (we didn't really like each other until High School but in JH we pretended to be friends) used to LOVE the movie Now and Then. Oh my heck is this movie funny! This one girl fills balloons with pudding because pudding makes better fake boobs! If you haven't seen this movie, I HIGHLY recommend it. I saw it the other day and it was still funny then :)

In High School, freshman year, my friend Kim D. and I used to LOVE the band Blessed Union of Souls. In fact, to this day they aren't that bad and I wouldn't mind getting their old school album again. I remember putting on way too much make-up in her bedroom and jamming out to them.
Even better than that was Liz and my obsession with LFO. I am pretty sure we knew the words to EVERY song and would scream them at the top of our lungs while driving along the beaches of Cape Cod. You have to remember who these guys are! Their hit song was "Summer Girls". Let me provide you with a few memorable lyrics:

New Kids On The block, had a bunch of hits
Chinese food makes me sick.
And I think it's fly when girls stop by for the summer, for the summer
I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch,
I'd take her if I had one wish,
But she's been gone since that summer..
Since that summer

So folks, those are my confessions and obsessions from when I was a kid. I am sure there are many more that will be thought of after this post is complete...and if they are worth it I'll add them on! If you feel like it, leave a comment with your guilty pleasures from your childhood!

Rigged and Annoyed!

Surprise, surprise...gymnastics is my favorite Olympic sport. However, this year is a complete joke! How can someone fall on their vault landing and still "earn" a medal and push the American out of the podium? Oh, I know how...it's because they are freakin' Chinese! Now I don't have anything against Chinese people, but I DO have an issue with them winning unfair medals. Now, let's take a look at uneven bars. Nastia's routine is beautiful, there is NO hop on the landing and she doesn't make any major mistakes...however she scores the same score as the Chinese girl who hops on her landing and has 2 visible mistakes. So it's a tie and both should get a gold medal right?! WRONG! The freakin' Chinese girl "wins" by .1 even though the score is the same...bull crap. I think the Olympics are rigged this year because they are in China and the Chinese can't even win a medal on their own talent. This year they need to include gymnasts are are NOT of age and they need to somehow convince the judges to give them better scores. BLAH! I am so annoyed. BORING...lets see what crap they pull on balance beam tomorrow...

My Parents Torture Me...

I'm not sure if I have blogged about the fact that Riley HATES taking a bath yet...but he does. So I'm not sure why I thought he would like swimming but I did. So anyway, we took Riley swimming yesterday up at Jeff's parents. The adventure started with just getting him IN the swim gear. First we put on a oversized swim diaper...the smalls were still WAY too big but we had no other option. Then we put on those plastic pants then his bathing suit. The poor kid was done after that and we still had to go to the pool. He did look super cute though. So we get to the pool and Jeff takes him and slowly eases into the water (there will be a video soon of the actual event I just don't know how to put it on here). Well Riley DID NOT like it. I thought Jeff was going to drop him because he was so slippery from the sun screen. Anyway, we tried the kiddie pool after and he was a little better in there but still not a fan...oh well maybe next year. At least he LOOKED cute :)
Save Me!!
Mom I really don't like the water!

It was a long day and I'm pooped!

Life Goes On Even When Things Go Crazy!

The past week has been NUTS! Riley rolled off the bed on Tuesday basically because I am a bad mom. You'd think that I would know better than to leave him alone for one second to make a bottle but apparently not. I was in the kitchen making it when all of a sudden I hear a loud THUD and then a cry like I have never heard before. It was so stinkin' sad. I had to be calm though because babies can sense when their mom is upset and I didn't want to make the situation worse. I was sick to my stomach all day and even left work because I was so worried about him. He was and is perfectly fine but it still scared me!
My Dad has been super sick lately...well since the beginning of May. He finally went to the Dr. but they don't know what is wrong with him. He is having lots more blood work and an MRI done so if you could keep him in his prayers that would be awesome!
We had family pictures with Jeff's whole family the other day. The ones of Riley came out awesome. I look like I ate another person...apparently I put on more weight than I thought when I had Riley...here are the "good ones".

Memories

So my friend Kristin had this on her blog and I thought it was neat:
It's always fun to be reminded of memories that we haven't thought about for awhile, or heaven forbid, forgot about. So please, leave a memory, I'm excited to see what you come up with and could use a good laugh!!!

1. Leave a comment below about a memory that you have about me and you, or you and Jeff. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot,
anything you remember!

2. Next (if you choose to), re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

Jeffy-isms

It's been awhile since I've posted anything. In fact, since I used to post once a day it seems like an eternity since my last post. We've been super busy with getting our house ready for showings, celebrating the 4th, celebrating our anniversary and working TONS. I don't have anything super exciting to post about but I have wanted to post a few Jeffy-isms for awhile. My amazing husband Jeff has so much going on in that brain of his he sometimes gets confused with the small details of life. Let me explain and be prepared to laugh!

1. We were watching a show awhile back on how to sell your house (this was before we even thought about putting ours on the market) Anyway these people had millions of little trinkets everywhere and the house was SUPER cluttered. So Jeff looks at me and says, "If they didn't have millions of tic-tacs everywhere their house would sell." I BUST out laughing and said, "Don't you mean NICK-NACKS instead of TIC-TACS...you eat tic-tacs!" Haha I LOVE my husband!

2. We recently purchased Mario Kart for the Wii. We were playing and Jeff says man BOUNCER is always in the way...I looked at him, again, and said don't you mean BOWSER? :)

3. I'm not sure how this next one came about in conversation, but we were at Jeff's old house where he lived with a bunch of guys. Anyway we were talking about something and Jeff was like ya well we had to so-der (that's how he pronounced it) it together. Everyone was looking around like what the heck is he talking about?!? I piped up after thinking for a moment and let everyone know he meant solder (in his defense that word IS spelled funny for how you say it)

4. He thought the "in" hair style was called a FRO-hawk no a faux-hawk.

5. Again right after we had purchased Mario-Kart for the wii Jeff was downstairs with my friends boyfriend and they were playing it. Well I came down and asked what they were doing. Jeff said they were playing the Grand Prick....he didn't know Grand Prix is pronounced Grand Pree.

Ok ok so I'm sure this blog will spawn some fights tonight, but with all the stress I've had lately between selling our house and work I need something to make me laugh. In Jeff's defense these things aren't something people talk about on a regular basis so I don't know why I would expect him to know them...but it does make me laugh :) I LOVE YOU JEFF!!

It's Official...

Our house is for sale. After much prayer we decided it would be in our best interest to move back to Ogden. There are multiple reasons for this...the MAIN one though is that we both work in Ogden...it seems silly to commute and spend tons of money in gas. Also some of our BEST friends are up in Ogden and we seem to find ourselves up there almost every weekend playing with them. So if you know anyone who is looking to buy...send them our way! Our house is awesome (we hate to leave it...for real we do...we'd like to transplant it to Ogden) Any prayers you'd like to offer to Heavenly Father for us would be awesome...we want our house to sell NOW! Lol...who doesn't?!

Confused

So I've thought a lot about whether or not to post this. I suppose I am just to get it out there. So here goes nothing! Jeff and I started looking at houses before we were even married...but after looking at a few we decided it wasn't the right time to buy...so again we looked at about our 10 month mark...we found a few we were interested in but it didn't feel right. So again we backed out. We moved in with Jeff's parents to save some money and the new plan was to wait til May of 08 to look again. Well, in July of 07 I was fiddling around on the internet and found this house in Syracuse. I didn't mention anything to Jeff for like a week because we had decided it wasn't the time to buy. Well after a week I couldn't contain myself and I asked him to just go look at it so I would know it wasn't the house for us. Well we walked in and it was perfect...so we bought it (thanks Hollie!) Well we moved in and it wasn't what we expected. I mean the house was perfect. We loved it and had an awesome time decorating it and buying new things. We knew our little Riley was on the way and that made it an even more exciting adventure. However, no one knew we existed. I had to go out and search for a neighbor who was outside one Saturday and summon the courage to ask them if they were LDS and when and where Church was. Even after that was done we still didn't meet anyone. We went to Church and went unnoticed. I HATED going. One day in RS I started bawling because I didn't want to be there and felt so stupid. We were the outsiders, no kids, super young, and no one knew we were there. Well I prayed and prayed and realized I needed to reach out if something was going to change. So then I got a visiting teaching assignment and I met a few more sisters. But it was only a matter of time and Jeff and I got called into the primary (well really the nursery) and again the getting to know you STOPPED. Sure we know everyone's kids but that does a whole lot of nothing for us. Well then in March we had Riley and in May I started back at the salon in Ogden. So now Jeff and I are both working in Ogden but living in Syracuse with NO friends. It's been almost a YEAR and we have nothing to show for it. We don't hang out with anyone here...we always end up in Ogden with our old friends. Maybe we need to make more of an effort. And for those of you who are reading this who live in Syracuse please don't feel like this is a blog to beg you to be our friend. My real question is...are we in the right place? Do we belong in Syracuse? Should we be in Ogden? That seems to be logical. We moved out here because we thought it was the right place to raise our family...but now I wonder. I don't know what to do. I've looked in Ogden for houses and found a few. But I don't want to pay capital gains tax...I don't want to sell our house (I'd like to transplant it) I don't want to have the physical hassle of moving but I DO want to be happy, I want to be close to work to stop paying so much in gas, I want to LOVE my ward and feel excited to go there and be accepted. With all that said, I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I'm sorry this is so long. Right now this is my inner struggle and I'm not sure which way to pull...

RAZZLES - Make Me Squeel With Excitement!

On Saturday June 21 we went to one of Jeff's good buddies from HS wedding. It was down at the Mt. Timp temple and then their wedding luncheon was at Thanksgiving point. Well, the friends finished with pictures early so we headed over to TP to hang out in the air conditioning since it was so stinkin' hot out. Well, while we were there looking around I spotted something. Much to my surprise, Razzles, are REAL!!!!!! For those of you who are completely confused let me explain. The movie 13 Going on 30 is one of my absolute FAVORITES! When I am sad it makes me totally happy. This is partly because I love love love Jennifer Garner and partly because it is SUCH a chick flick. I mean this movie makes me so happy that Jeff even mentions watching it and I smile for the rest of the day. Anyway, in one scene Jenna and Matt go to this corner store and buy Razzles kind of as a tradition (you have to watch to understand...sorry!) Jenna asks to see Matt's tongue and he is like HECK NO! Well eventually he shows her and she's like, "Yupp Razzle Red!" Well when I saw the Razzles sitting there on the shelf at TP I HAD to buy them...so I did! There were some other girls at the luncheon there who were like oh I've had those and they aren't very good. So rather than be disappointed I am going to keep them in the package and hold them tight every time I watch the movie!! This totally makes me feel like a little girl again and I LOVE it!!

3 months and rolling over....

We blogged awhile back about how Jeff found Riley face down in his crib one night...we weren't sure how that happened since he was like a month and a half old. Well this morning when I went to feed him again he was face down in his crib. It was a little more believable that he had rolled over but I thought for sure he was too young still (he is only 3 stinkin' months!). Well we were WRONG. When I came home from work tonight Jeff had this to show me....hope you enjoy it! Don't look away though...it happens too fast.
P.S. Jeff HATES the ending...but I think it's cute :)

Happy Birthday To Me!

So today is my 23rd birthday! It has been a great day :) Jeff and I have a tradition of giving each other our presents early...but mostly because I get too excited and can't contain myself anymore and have to give him his early lol! Anyway...he gave me my presents on Saturday night. To be honest he is not the best gift giver. I normally pick out my presents and then he gives them to me when the holiday comes because he never knows what to get me. I try and drop hints but he doesn't really pick up on them...oh well. So Saturday morning he was like stay in bed I am going to go shopping for you. I was proud of him for multiple reasons:
#1 He wasn't going the day before or the day of the holiday
#2 I hadn't picked out my present
#2 He seemed confident in knowing where he was going and what he was getting
Because of all these reasons I knew it was going to be good! So anyway, Saturday night I just couldn't hold it in anymore and I gave him his father's day present. So he decided to give me ONE of my presents. Well that was just a teazer so he gave me the rest and he did a GREAT job :) He got me this food storage thing I wanted (he picked up on a hint!), a floor mat that matches our kitchen decor (he picked out on his own!), a gift certificate to Mild to Wild (he picked up on this too!) and a WAY cute purse/diaper bag. It is zebra print with a red accent! I LOVE all my presents...but the best present of all is being with my hubby and our little man Riley! I'm not one for presents...in fact I HATE opening them and I hide on Christmas day in the corner so no one can watch me. This years birthday was fun though! Thanks to all my family and friends for making it a memorable one!!

One of Ogden's Best Kept Secrets

On Friday night I had to work at the salon. After work I was STARVING since I never have time to eat while I am working. Jeff came to get me and we decided it would be fun to go to Lee's Mongolian BBQ. We haven't been there in forever and they have wicked good food. We thought about going there a few weeks back but Riley was still really little and it is A HOLE IN THE WALL joint and I didn't want him getting sick or anything so we held off. Well I was sure glad we went on Friday. It hit the spot! Their food is DELICIOUS! I'm not one for Chinese food or food of that sort but I LOVE Mongolian. I think it is because you can use lots of Curry to make it and Curry makes me happy! I've heard that Indian food is made with lots of curry as well..I need to try it some day. Anyway, if you are in Ogden and want some amazing food I recommend you try out Lee's. It is on Washington and about 26th st. I think...I promise you will love it :)

Riley's Face Muscles

Home Again

Jeff and I have been HORRIBLE lately about going to the temple. Part of the reason is I didn't want to go while I was prego because I had no idea what each day would bring. It was a whole new experience and I didn't want to pass out or have my water break or something totally embarrassing like that happen. Anyway, enough excuses...we finally went to the temple again yesterday! We had LOTS of trials from the moment we woke up. Satan really didn't want us entering the temple, but NOTHING was going to stop us. We had decided to go to the Bountiful Temple since Jeff's parents live near there and could watch Riley and so we did! After the session I was waiting for Jeff in the Celestial Room. While I was sitting there a thought came to me, "It feels good to be home." It was true. It felt so good to be back in the Lord's House. It had been way too long. I will hold on to that feeling and when it starts to fade away I'll know it's time to visit His house again. I am go grateful to be worthy to enter His house and even more grateful for a worthy husband to be there by my side.

Tag I'm It!!

I've been tagged again. I’m supposed to list 6 facts about myself. This could be a bit revealing so don't use it to blackmail me...okay?

1. I DIDN'T grow up in the church so I was a HUGE fan of alcohol in high school and my freshman year of college. Anyway, one night I drank wayyyyy too much and knew I couldn't walk down the stairs. So I rode down every single one of them on my butt. The entire party stopped, watched me, and clapped when I made it to the bottom. That is why my nickname was "STAIR GIRL"!

2. In high school I went to a haunted cemetery and my phone really become POSSESSED. For real though. It started sending out coded text messages and all these weird things. Anyway, Verizon had to replace my phone because they couldn't explain what was going on.

3. I am DEATHLY afraid of BIRDS. I will do everything in my power to dodge them. Even if that means sitting on the ground in a ball at Disney until I can't hear them and Jeff tells me they are gone.

4. I have IMPLANTS. Now all of you sick-os, they are not what you are thinking. I was born without 4 teeth so I had to have bone-graphs and then implants placed in my jaw. So FOUR of my teeth are fake! (The next time you see me smile...can you guess which ones?)

5. I am OBSESSED with video games and I HAVE to win. The trucker comes out in me when I play them because I want to win so bad. I am really trying to be better at that haha.

6. I accidentally walked in on Jeff NAKED. We were just friends at the time. I was completely MORTIFIED. He had quick reflexes though and covered his "you know what" so I didn't SEE anything but I wanted to curl up in a ball and die.

So Erika tagged me and her facts are way more interesting! But anyway, I am supposed to tag 6 people so here it goes!

1. Brianna H
2. Hollie D
3. Kristin J
4. Hillaury M
5. Hillary K
6. Kim W

Shots

Riley is now over the 2 month mark according to the Dr. so we went and had his shots today. I was a little nervous but had bought some baby Tyleno (cherry flavored at that!). I had no idea when to give it to him so it would kick in around the right time so I just took a guess. He was really cute when I gave it to him. He sucked on the dispenser like it was a bottle and then he ate it all and gave me a huge smile. I bet it was nice to have something else other than formula for once! Well then we ventured to the Dr. I made Jeff go with me again because I knew Riley would cry. So we get there and wait a little bit and then they take us back. They had me lay him down on this table and then these two nurses just started giving him these shots. They counted 1-2-3 and stuck him. He started crying so hard he held his breath the entire time they gave him the shots and then let out a big wail when it was all over. Tears were streaming down his face. It was so sad :( But he's a trooper! They finished after 5 shots and I picked him up and he just cuddled it was great. Well then we went out into the waiting room so the lady could give us back our immunization card and there was this old man and his wife in the waiting room as well. He look at me and said, "oh cute how old is he?" I responded and said, "10 weeks". Then the old man looks at me and says, "well how old are you?" His wife hit him and said, "that's none of your business!" I smiled and lied a little and said 23 (my birthday is in like 3 weeks so I didn't figure it was too big of a lie) He was like ok and looked away. Well when they got called back I look at Jeff and said, "I should have said 16" :)
All in all today wasn't too bad. Riley is still sleeping...poor little guy!

The BEST Blog yet!

Ever since I had Riley I have had more of an opportunity to cook dinner and treats and to try new recipes. I tend to get most of my recipes from one of my favorite shows "Good Things Utah"! Anyway, the other day they had this recipe for Cinnamon-Top Cream Cheese Banana Bread...delicious! I made it yesterday with a hand mixer...it flew all over my kitchen and my hand mixer had to work to the max to mix all the flour and other ingredients together. So I decided I want a kitchen aid mixer. I looked up prices and they are super expensive. Jeff and I talked about it and I explained that you can make more than just treats using them and that it would be a good birthday present since my birthday is in 3 weeks! Well, this morning I found a BRAND NEW one on KSL for $190.00 in Salt Lake. This particular one retails for $350! So I talked to Jeff and he's all go get it! So I called them up and they still had it and in the metallic color that I wanted! I told them I was on my way and they gave me the address. Well I knew it was a business I was going to but I was NOT prepared for the adventure. I am not too familiar with SL since I am from out of state. So I get directions and head off. I get off the 13th S. exit and head to State Street. I'm driving along looking for the # (which I won't provide for safety haha) and miss it. I didn't see a business that looked familiar or anything so I go up the block and back down state street looking solely for the # this time. So I am driving really slow so I can look at the #'s on the buildings. Well, I find the one I am looking for and it is a PAWN SHOP! I am like you've got to be kidding me! I call Jeff and ask him if I should even go in! He's like ya, why not? Well I'm scared because the building looks sketchy and who knows if this thing is stolen! He tells me it's not my fault if it is stolen and it most likely isn't. So I venture into this creepy looking pawn shop and buy myself a kitchen aid mixer. I promise it is brand new (never been opened) and in the box! But still...I have NEVER been to a pawn shop and definitely never bought something from one...but hey I saved myself $160, right?

**Inspired**

So lots of my friends ran the Ogden Half Marathon on Saturday and I'll be honest, it made me jealous. Not because I like to run or anything crazy like that, but because I think it's an a-m-a-z-i-n-g accomplishment. So, all of you that ran it, you have no inspired me to run it next year. I was thinking of running the Park City Half Marathon in September but then I found out it is one of the hardest ones and I really don't want to die my first time haha. And since I haven't been to work out in forever because I was pregnant I am going to start small. I am going to train for a 5k, then a 10k, and I will surely be ready for the half by next May. So I am telling you all of this so I can't back down. The more people that know the harder it will be for me to whimp out. So I am starting on Monday. I am going to purchase a jogging stroller this weekend so I can take Riley with me when the weather is nice, and when I can't run outside we have a treadmill so I'll just use that. Anyway, I need all the support I can get...as we all know I am far from being in shape!!

So here is my commitment: I WILL run a half marathon!!!

Confessions

I have a few little confessions to make...not anything big like going to the Bishiop confessions but just some stuff. So I sign onto Facebook this AM and I have 2 friend requests...secretly inside I'm like yay someone wants to be my friend!! Anyway, one of them is this cute girl, Hillary, from my ward. Jeff and I actually have her daughter in our nursery class. Well long story short, we become blog friends and I am looking at her blog friends and there are lots of people from our ward....so now they are my blog friends and I know lots about them and I am sure they don't even know my blog exists, yet they are now my "friends". This is why I have named that link list "Stalk my Friends" because we all know thats what we are doing here, now isn't it?

My other confession is from today as well...I sort of feel like a bad mom. It is SUPER sunny and nice out and I don't have to work right? Well I want to get some sun since I started working at the tanning salon again and people look at my like I am lying to them because I am soooo white. So I dig out last years bathing suit, figuring it won't fit since I am still ginormous from the baby (sad I know it has been 8 weeks) and put it on...and it fits..a little snug but it fits!!! So I get my book to read, my cell phone, and a huge towel and set up on the deck. Well I don't want to bring Riley out in the sweltering 90 degree heat and sun so I set his swing up in front of the glass door and plop him (gently) in it. I go outside and make sure I can see him...and I can...so I lay out on the deck (where no one can see me thankfully) and soak up the rays for the next hour...it was wonderful

I must be backwards...

So I figure I might also well share some random facts about me since all those who read this know pretty much everything about my life:
I am a righty BUT
I have to put my l e f t foot under me when I sit down
I can only hold Riley on my l e f t arm
I have to turn around 1 and 1/2 times to the l e f t before I can sit down (kind of like a dog haha)
When I talk on the phone it has to be on my l e f t ear
When I text I hold the phone in my l e f t hand
When putting on shoes I put my l e f t one on first
So nothing too exciting but I think it's interesting (plus I read this to Jeff and he said, "I must be a bad husband because I don't know ANY of this about you)...be a little more observant about what you do and I think you'll notice little things that are out of the norm...
Here are some things to think about...
Which leg do you put in first when you are putting on your pants?
Which way do you turn your head when you kiss your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse?
Whose thumb is on top when holding hands?
Which side do you part your hair on?

Book Worm..kinda

One thing not a whole lot of people know about me is that I LOVE to read! I am kinda weird about it though. I go through spurts. So I'll read a book every 2 days and then after 5 or 6 books I get bored and I won't read for awhile and then I want to read again and I read a lot and then take a break. Well, a little while ago I read the Vampire series (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse) by Stephanie Meyer. It was awesome! It was super super easy reading and that's probably why I finished all 3 books in like a week but they were great. Well, on May 6th she just came out with a new book call The Host. I'm not exactly sure what it is about but I think it's a sort of a sci-fi love story. Either way I want to get it and read it! I am also anticipating her second version of Twilight, titled Midnight Sun, from Edward's point of view and I am definitely looking forward to Twilight the movie. Anyway, I thought I'd share one of my hidden pleasures and let you know how excited I am! Let me know if there are any books you'd like to recommend. I think I am going to venture down to the Syracuse library and check some out!!

Apparently 8 Weeks DOES NOT Equal 2 Months

I feel like I have been super negative lately so I am going to post this last negative post and then be positive for awhile! On Monday I called Riley's Dr. office to make his 2 month appointment for his immunizations. I've been a little hesitant the past few weeks about it because of all the hype about immunizations possibly being linked to autism. That being said we went anyway. So I pick Jeff up at the FrontRunner station because I don't want to go by myself due to the trauma at the last Dr. appointment. So we get to the Dr. and sit around for like 45 minutes before they take us back. Thankfully Riley was sleeping while we waited. So anyway we get him undressed so they can weigh him and he decides to play...yay! Happy baby = a lot smoother Dr.'s apt. So before I get to the reasoning behind the title of this blog
Head Circumference: 29 in
Height: 21 1/2 in
Weight: 10.2 oz
So he didn't say anything about his head being big or small...he is in the 25th % tile for his weight and then he looks at his height and is like well he sure won't be the center of the basketball team...he didn't give us a % tile for it but looking at the screen Riley was at the VERY bottom for height...haha we are going to have a midget child!
So then we talk to the dr. about the shots and he gives us a bunch of info and we feel a lot better and decide to do them all today. Well the nurse walks in to give them and she is like he isn't two months old so we can't give him his shots. I look at her and say he is 8 weeks tomorrow and she says well he was born on the 20th so you have to wait til the 21st to have his shots which is 7 days away (which by the way will make him 9 weeks) so we can't give them to him. GRRRR...what a waste and now we have to go back and Jeff has to leave work again to come with me because I am a big baby and won't go alone.
Lesson learned for all new parents...don't count weeks go by their birthday...could have fooled me!

CUSTOMER SERVICE DOES NOT EXIST!!!

So I have had 2 interesting experiences lately that I would like to rant about. The first, at this point in my life, is the lesser of two evils. Our mortgage company sucks. So they lost our very first payment and then they were like are you going to pay your mortgage?! HELLO I ALREADY HAVE. Then they found the payment after I submitted proof so they credited us twice...which seems nice but it's not because then they took it away and it messes up taxes. Then we had set up auto pay for the 8th of the month and they took it out on the 6th in Jan, the 3rd in Feb, and then the 1st in March and in March it overdrew our account because we got paid the day after that. Well I had to call them again to yell at them for this (I called all the other times but this put me over the E D G E!!!) The guy was like oh ya I see that you clearly have the 8th marked I don't know why we aren't taking it out on the right day. Well low and behold....it is the 9th of the month and they have not taken our mortgage out...I hate Utah Housing Corporation!!!!!
Even more than I hate Utah Housing Corp I hate Babies R Us. The name is true...they are big babies!!!! So we registered for way cute dino stuff for Riley's room at the Riverdale store. Well we went to buy it and it was gone and they were like oh sorry we are shipping it to Midvale but lucky you we have it still in the box so you can have it. So we lucked out once...well then you are supposed to get a coupon 2 weeks before your due date....Riley is now 7 weeks and still no coupon. Then I call to make them ship in from the Midvale store the dino mobile and a crib sheet and they make it seem like it's a HUGE inconvenience to do that. Well they call and tell me it's in and I go to get it and they have ONE person on the register....I wait 15 min and have to leave and still have not been helped. I go in the next day and tell the girl my story, she has no idea, she calls furniture and I have to explain again, they have no idea, she looks at me and says, "SORRY WE HAVE HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION" then she calls a manager and then tells me she is going to help other people instead. I am FURIOUS at this point. The manager comes out and the girl tells him I need help and I need to explain to the manager my problem...I look at him start balling and walk out. I calm down like 2o min later, call the store, yell, Jeff goes and gets my stuff and they give us a big discount...I still hate Babies R Us

Our Two Week Update In A Nutshell

So it has been awhile since I have posted last...so much has gone on! My dad came into town and fell in love with Riley the moment he met him (How could you not? My son is adorable!) They loved to take naps together...here is the proof and a way cute picture...BTW my AMAZING dad has lost 102 lbs (in a healthy way) since June 20, 2007 so that is why he looks so skinny!!!

Well, the moment Jeff has been anticipating for the last few months has finally arrived and he finally graduated with his degree in Telecommunications!!! As you can see he was THRILLED to be done (and he will probably kill me for posting this picture) Life is soooooooo much better now...we are both way more relaxed and can enjoy our time together as a cute little family!
Well my parents left on Saturday afternoon. I exchanged them at the airport for my friend Stacey and her boyfriend Nick! It was sad for my parents to leave (they let me take looooooooong naps while they were here and they watched Riley!) but wonderful to see one of my best friends from high school. Anyway, while they were here we played the wii a lot and ventured down to Salt Lake to Temple Square and the Gateway to get a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Apple! We also had a Cinco De Mayo party and ate lots of yummy Mexican food. Stacey took all the good pictures while they were here so I don't have anything to post just yet...
They were here for a short visit and left on Tuesday. I dropped them off at the airport and then I had to go to work at the tanning salon. It was a sad day for me. Everyone was now gone from my house and I didn't have my little man around! Jeff's sister Angie is going to watch our little man for us on Tuesday's while I work at the salon. So it was a rough day but I made it through it! Life is a little more back to normal so I'll be blogging more...be excited and stay tuned!!!

Dollar Dollar Bill Yo, Graduation, and BPA

So my mom is in town...we have done lots and lots of shopping, which in turn means I have spent lots and lots of $$money$$...sad story! We drag poor Riley around all over the place, feed him and change his little bum in the back of my car and keep him in his car seat for extended periods of time (I am a horrible mom!) It's been fun to get out of the house, but at the same time I am worn out to the max because I'm not used to all the running around.
Jeff is graduating on Friday...hallelujah!!! We have been waiting for this day forever it seems like. I can't wait for him to not be stressed anymore, to not feel so guilty waking him up at night to help with Riley, and to hang out at night and not have to worry about him having homework to do. It will be nice to be a "normal" family. By normal I only mean working a 9-5 job because we all know Jeff and I are FAR from normal!
What is all this crap about BPA...everything causes cancer...breathing air causes cancer...I'm not going to throw out my newly purchased Avent bottles because they MIGHT be bad...they don't even know that they are...and how many people have used bottles for hundreds of years and now it's an issue...whatever! It's annoying, and my little man is going to use bottles...so there!

Wendy's, Sheep, and Knockers

Two posts in one day! I needed to post about the photo shoot with Riley that happened on Friday, but then Saturday was adventurous and I totally needed to post about that too...so you have all been blessed with two posts! Anyway, on Saturday my cute friend Kim came to visit! She wanted to see our house and meet our little man Riley! Well we hung out for awhile and it soon became lunch time. Jeff suggested we go to Wendy's to eat and we all thought this was a great idea. So there we are sitting in Wendy's talking about Jeff's friends from high school. I start to describe the wife of one of his friends and here is how the story goes: Kim, she is like this big (stick thin) and has HUGE knockers, and I am like this big (not so stick thin :) haha) and have HUGE knockers and here I am eating Wendy's. Jeff turns and looks at Kim and I and says, "Carrie it's ok...your husband is like this big (not stick thin either) and has HUGE knockers!!" Lol...so Jeff has man boobs. It is great and always fun to joke about. In fact, some of the pictures we took on Friday Jeff HATES because his man boobs are very prominent...we asked Sara to photoshop them out and she said she can't work miracles. Well just when we finish laughing our heads off about the knockers these random animals run by! I think they are goats so I say hey look at the goats and Kim was like I think those are sheep. So as brilliant as I am I yell out, "Can you eat sheep meat?" We then proceed to laugh for another 10 minutes til we can't breath, I am crying, and our stomachs hurt. When we entered Wendy's almost all the tables were full...now they are empty...I think they only let us stay because we were $paying$ customers.

One Month Old!

So Riley is a month old now. It is wonderful. Like I said before in my last post I went and got his pictures taken on Friday. My friend Sara has a little studio in her house and she takes amazing pictures!! Riley was so good. It ended up being an all day event because she has a baby too and we needed to feed them, change their diapers, and the lights that you needed to use to get good pictures run really hot so we had to take frequent breaks so Riley wouldn't overheat. Through it all he was a trooper and we got really good pictures. Here are some of our favorites:
Ok I love his stinkin feet...they are so little and cute...we took lots of these kinds of pictures! So We put Riley in this polka dot box and this way way soft fuzzy blanket...needless to say he peed in it haha...I was proud of him though...it was the only time he peed all day when he was out of his diaper! We did some pictures in black and white and some in color...He was actually awake for some of them too! I love my little man! He is so cute and so good...this picture makes me happy! Last but not least a picture with his daddy! They are my two favorite people in this whole wide world!!!!
This is no where near the end of the pictures...we took over 200 but I am not going to post them all...to see the pictures check out our picasa website: picasaweb.google.com/JeffMaas/Riley

Things you're grateful for when you're a mom!

Life as a mom is rad...it truly is! However, your life does a COMPLETE 180 when a little one enters it. I struggle to find the time to get ready these days (Jeff certainly has noticed because the other day he said to me, "Oh wow, you are wearing make-up!") but I am trying more and more every day. Anyway, to get anything done around the house I need to stick him in one of the following:
1. His crib (he's not too big of a fan of this when he is awake...I think I need to invest in a mobile)
2. His bouncer
3. His swing
The latter are wonderful as you can tell by the pictures! He likes his bouncer but he is too little still to strap him in so he slides down a lot. However, when you first put him in it he is able to see the cute toys hanging down and he likes to look at them. The swing is G-R-E-A-T! It can swing side to side or front to back and the mobile on the top moves around and has multiple music choices. He LOVES to look up and stare at the mobile when you turn it on. What's even BETTER about the swing is it puts him to sleep which allows me to get even more done (like blogging lol)
The next thing I am grateful for is diaper bags. I got a way cute diaper bag at one of my baby showers, however, it's not as practical as I had anticipated. What it IS good for though is church! It is totally cute and fits a lot and definitely looks church-y. However, I needed to invest in an every day diaper bag to replace this not so practical (but totally cute) one that I had. So I looked around and here is what I found and have purchased. So the smaller thing is an amazing changing pad! It has a spot for diapers and wipes and you can take it separate from the diaper bag if you just need the changing table where you are going to! Hanging off the diaper bag is a binkie holder, which is wonderful because they always seem to get lost in the bottom of the bag. There is a cell phone holder, a place for your iPod, the front has a magnetic flap so you can put YOUR stuff in it like your wallet, pens, chapstick, etc. Anyway, I am going to stop going on and on about this diaper bag, but as you can tell I LOVE it and am very grateful for it haha. I picked this color because it is not girly, but still stinkin cute, and Jeff is willing to use it!
The next thing I am grateful for is binkies! There is a funny story behind this...so we had Riley home for a few days and hadn't used one yet. Anyway, my visiting teacher came over to bring us dinner and to see how we were doing. Well she told me about these binkies that Primary Children's just did a study on, and they are supposed to stimulate brain activity. So I ran out a bought a couple. The thing is they aren't so cute and they are huge! Jeff's aunt was like what the heck is that in his mouth and why is it so ugly!!! I have to admit they aren't the cutest thing ever, but he looks so cute when he sucks on it! (See the swing picture)
Anyway, this is how exciting my life is these days...Looking back on my single life, it's sad that these are now the things that make me happy...but I wouldn't want my life to be any other way...I am proud to be a mom and therefore I will always brag about Riley and talk about him endlessly!
