Everyone else is wrapping it up....

All righty then! The medical forms are filled out, the transcript is filled in. The parent's statement is almost done, all the fine print is signed. Sis. Liechty is keepin' right along, and Sra. van der Meer just needs to print it out. Everything is done!

Except, of course, the part where I write a bunch of essays and whatnot.

Good job, team! 'cept for me. At least I can't blame anyone else if I don't get it in on time.

Kechu always tells me about how weird it is in a different country, and Hannes loves to tell me about how controlling and annoying AFS can be. I swear, I'm getting more excited by the day. And as soon as I finish my last semester test, I am buckling down and getting those essays done!

Go Team!

Preparation

A lot of stuff goes in to studying with AFS! Paperwork, shots, passport, scholarships, fundraising, doing a whole list full of things for my mom, and *drum roll* getting Dad to let me go.

Today I learned everything I could about taking German 1 from BYU's Independent Study for high schoolers. Costs a pretty penny, but I doubt going to Germany without being able to speak German would be much fun, either. Next: talking about credits with Ms. Broman.

Main Characters In My Life

The Posse:

Allegra Bel
is an exchange student living in Bad Honnef. She's in a different program than AFS, we met in church. She hails from Arizona, California, and Utah. She is a part of the Posse and my family here in Deutschland. She plays the harp and is one of the nicest, sweetest people in the whole world which is why I am so happy she has the host family she does - she deserves them. They are also amazing and nice. I'm actually going to be living with them my last week - yay for an amazing support system.

Anya
is an au pair living here in Bonn. She's from Utah and goes to my ward. Her stories had to start out, 'One time, when I was Zone Leader for 10 minutes in the Oakland California Spanish Speaking Mission....' or the elders got cranky.
She is part of my Posse and is like family here in Deutschland - her house is where we go for American treats and a great time. Codeword: 'We need Pecans!' means we are going to have an adventure of a day. She is 'occasionally' hilarious. And by that I mean always.

Andelyn
is the neice of Koko and Patrick, the people Anya works for. So they're kinda like roomies but not. She's interning at the UN Campus here in Bonn, where Koko works. She always add to the fun and I am jealous of her computer.
She is the newest addition to our Posse (that name is Elder Williams' fault, by the way) since one of the requirements is to be single. The other requirement is to have your name start with A, but they love me anyway.
Sadly she's returned to the States, but she's always an honorary Posse member!

The AFSers:

Mila is from Bosnia (not Russia, despite Matthew's best efforts) and is super nice. We personally love the Käse Brot song like no other, and will always be connected by this love.

Ben
is from Texas and is totally a stereotypical American that sometimes it actually causes me pain. But he is learning to keep his 'Hi I'm from Texas and don't know where Finland is' comments to himself. He is very funny and nice and gets on Matthew's nerves a lot. Unfortunately, he lives aaaall the way in Bad Berleberg so we don't see him very often. No feeling sorry for him allowed - he spends his days hanging out with Danish royalty.

Matt
is from 'The Boston Area.' He is a, so says he, 'Masshole.' Also, he is an Anarchist and talks pretty much solely about political stuff. I think his German accent is atrocious and he thinks we are all ridiculous. I had trouble picking between this picture and the one of his Robin Hood hat he bought in Bayern solely because it was the only hat he'd ever found that fit on his big head. And he was an unholily DRUNK monk for Karneval.
We love Matt.

Sanni
is from Finland, but she speaks Swedish. Except, not anymore, because now she speaks English and German and has forgotten all her Swedish! She is on the Finland national handball team, and she's on a team here too which basically controls her life. She is really cool and down to earth, and Matt calls her the Hulk. Which she does not like.

Yusuf is from der Türkei, or Turkey. He was, like Sanni and Matt and Fabio, in my German Class at the beginning of the year. I wish I knew him better, but from what I know, he is extremely friendly and helpful.

Fabio is from Paraguay and knows exactly why bananas are curled - just ask him. He's a funny kid, and is on a swim team here.

Hannes was in Jefferson last year and is now on the opposite end of the spectrum as a host family.

The Family:

Ingo is my hostdad. He's a soldier and is gone a lot during the week, but when he's home he's great. He's really funny and nice. He's sometimes a bit mean, but only in that loving fatherly way. If you know my dad then you know exactly what I am talking about - they are going to get along great.

Regina
is my hostmom. She is always a bit harried, but that's what happens when you have 5 kids, I think. She is very nice and super helpful and is also my Young Women leader, which just makes her that much cooler.

Anna-Lena just turned 18 and became engaged to Jared. The date is set for September 2012 - he's gotta go on a mission first, of course! She is a great hostsister, always nice and answering questions. We are in the same class all day, every day, so when we get home a little separation to our bedrooms is quite alright. I'm glad we're in the same class - the other kids in our class are dumb.

Gideon nevers talks but he is an artist!!! Blows me away. Or, when he tries to talk all that comes out is giggling. Sorry, what?

Johannes is a stinker. And 12. A 12-year-old stinker. But he's tolerable, because all his stinking is an attempt to hide that he actually thinks I'm pretty cool. Which he lets by letting me watch movies on his Xbox.

Simon just turned 11! I gave him a JS - Rams shirt for his birthday and he loves it. Kid doesn't talk, or eat. Very comisch. But I like him.

Piet is 7. He turns 8 exactly 20 days before Claire. He is a total goofball but I would say he is the best sport out of the boy bunch. He's also the most willing to accept me as his sister, which I think is sweet.
