June 2012

So....here we are, about a year and a half after my last blog post. I've discovered that not much gets done with my picture organization if I don't keep up on this here blog!!! So the ramblings on here will be purely for mine and my family's benefit, but if you'd like to come along and play with us, WELCOME!!!!!! I'm going to start with a recap of June. We started the month with this, from our little garden:

and this:
The second photo being a representation of Jeremy's project. He's been wanting to dig a hole for our trampoline ever since we moved here (4 years ago). Something about aesthetics of a yard, blah blah blah...We recognized that our once wee little nephews Matthew and Zachary are now strapping young men, and we enlisted their help in getting it dug. They were a-mazing. Finished it in a day and a half. Looks great now! I need to post "after" pics. The month of June introduced to us Grandpa's new kittens. Love.
June also is our month-o-birthdays. 3 of the 4 kids have b-days in June. Trey has been way into bowling lately (due to wii bowling, I believe. He's somewhat of an addict). He requested a bowling ball cake, and I made a valiant attempt:
We went bowling for his birthday (of course) and he was the excited recipient of a new watergun and badminton set. Mia requested A Little Mermaid cake, which turned out a little better than her brother's.
We went swimming and had a birthday party at my brother's house for her birthday. And finally, Talmage's birthday was at the end of the month. His birthday cake request was for a Plants Vs. Zombies cake. This was a pretty fun one to make, and he was really happy with the result.
He was the lucky (spoiled) recipient of a Kindle Fire. Actually, he earned the money for part of it, so I shouldn't say he's spoiled:) He was thrilled.
A few pics from the Raingutter Regatta...
And finally, a few pics from our summer enjoyments:
All in all, a great month.

Miscellaneous

I decided to put Trey and Mia in a preschool my friend does nearby--more of a playgroup than anything else, because they've become so social, and winter becomes so hard to keep them entertained all day, I figured this would be good for them and fun for them. They were thrilled to be going to school like the big boys! They were especially thrilled to wear their backpacks! Love them

Here are some miscellaneous pictures of the twins:

Ian's 5th birthday!

Can't believe the kid is 5 already! Happy birthday buddy! The day was a great one, complete with breakfast in bed, a party at school and skiing with Grandpa. He requested a ski mountain birthday cake, which ended up being the easiest cake I've ever done. Thanks dude! He was thrilled with a robot, a bike and a new controller for the wii. Pretty easy to please.

Family Photos

Here are some family photos we had done while Jeremy was on leave. I think they turned out pretty cute! Christmas was good, if a little chaotic. I dub my house the "Castle of Chaos". It was really fun spending time with my family, though and having my parents spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with us. Also great to have Heidi back. She's the best!!

Blessings

Ian's been attending a great preschool this year, and he was very proud of the Santa he made earlier this week. Such a cute kid.

This holiday season has been fairly overwhelming for us in terms of the generosity of others. We've felt so incredibly blessed. It started last weekend when we started receiving presents in the mail to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas--through some tricky detective work I found out it was my amazing sisters who coordinated this and were sending us things each day. We've received two awesome Christmas books and a package stuffed with a billion cookies. We've felt so loved and the kids have loved watching the mail every day to see what's next.

Our neighbors have also been incredibly generous and brought lots of treats and gifts, and I've walked out most snowy mornings prepared to shovel the walk and driveway, only to find that it's already been done!

Tonight was a pretty great night as well. My father-in-law's neighborhood/ward webelos decided they wanted to do a service project and chose us as their subjects. We went to Ford's house for a soup dinner, then they presented us with blankets they had made, as well as a few other items--magnetix, stuffed animals, and books. It was so generous and we felt so loved. Two of the four boys had had fathers deployed last year so knew a little of what it's like. Here are the twins with their blankets and stuffed animals, and the boys with their blankets and magnets. Wonderful night with kind, generous people.
