Do we live in Minnestoa???

Growing up in Minnesota I remember loving winter and playing for hours out in the snow. I'd dig tunnels in the pile of snow the plow would leave at the end of our driveway. One year dad even froze over our back yard for our very own private ice rink. I remember going out right after a storm when all the snow was still left on the trees, I would hike through the our back yard forest and enjoy the silence and crunching of the snow. I remember walking on the lakes (MN has many)and looking down to see the white bubbles or air pockets under the dark ice.
Because we live in VA which gets little to no snow, I've often felt our kids are going to miss out on all the fun snow can bring. I'm glad we're here for the biggest snow storm on record in the DC/VA area. We live in a neighborhood full of kids but as we've been out playing we've noticed no one around. It makes me sad to think of all the fun they are missing out on. Hurray to SNOW!!!!

No these are not snow mountains.....

they are 7+ feet snow drifts on our street! I was lucky to get these shots before the snow plow ruined them.

Snow Fun

From making a slide off the back porch stairs, buried up to the head in the snow, to snow fights- we've had our fun!

Our once 5 foot fence

E. was so excited to be able to walk across the top of our 5 foot fence!

Our 2010 snow fort

On Feb. 5th it started snowing and it hasn't stopped. We got 32 inches and with Grandpa's help made a snow fort in the back yard. We sipped hot chocolate and brought out treats. Feb. 10th we got more snow plus 40 mph winds it was a blizzard that piled snow drifts 5+ ft. in our back yard. Here is a picture of our snow fort before and after. Jayson had to dig it out for the kids.

4th of July

We love the 4th! There are a lot of frogs in VA and Emelia loves them and knows all their hiding places.

Our Two Week Move

In about two weeks time we decided to move, had a renter for our apartment, and everything packed to go; it was crazy. I also had all our stuff we have been storing in Utah shipped out to Virginia. So, now for the first time in over 8 yrs. all our stuff is together in one place: my sister's garage. We have no idea what is in all those boxes, and probably nothing much worth of value (since we didn't miss it in NYC). I plan on pulling a choice box out of the pile to wrap for Jayson's Christmas gift. We are in Northern Virginia to stay for awhile. We're living with my family until things get settled with Jayson's job. It has been great to be here and we love the extra help. We have gone from one extreme to another but have seemed to adapt nicely. We would love to show you around if your ever in the area.
