Just returned home after a five day break by the Fylde coast which is only an hours drive from home, but after never having a holiday for a few years it was just what was needed.
For April the weather was just superb, in fact more like summer, but it was the peace of being by the sea which really made it all worthwhile. The photo above is from an area called Cleveleys, as you can see it is such a quiet area. It brought back such good childhood memories, as two of my Aunties had caravans facing this beach area and we used to go every September for a week.
During the five days we drove to The Lakes as that was only an hour away and also to another typical quaint English coastal town called Lytham.
It was fitting the day we visited another place called Lytham, it was St George's Day the Patron Saint of England (we are one of the few countries that does not have a national day?). Well the town is very conservative and as we drove along the coast road we soon noticed a military band and a ceremony just starting to raise the flag of St George with the Mayor and local dignities which had attracted local and national TV as well as radio. After the ceremony they paraded into the town centre and as you can see from the photo below that is also so English
We had a fantastic 5* Hotel to stay in courtesy of Airmiles, I had been saving the miles for a trip to the USA, so it was a free break. Our room had a superb view looking on to the 17th hole. The Hotel is more of a resort with 18 hole golf course and set in superb grounds. Like any holiday something has to happen, the first night we slept well only to be woke up just before 7am with the alarm ringing, at first we thought it was the smoke alarm, but then we heard people rushing by the window as the guests were evacuated!! it was only a false alarm, but I think it helped everyone get up early that day.
It has made me more determined than ever that I have to move to live facing the sea, I just felt so much better health wise and relaxed.
