Barsoom

If you are like me when you read this title you asked the question what is Barsoom. Well I will tell you in a minute. I have to tell you the beginning part of this story first. Cindy and I have been planning the Cannon reunion. We have been trying to find cheap and fun things to do in Millard county. One thing we are looking at is fossil hunting in the desert west of Fillmore. Before we try to drag 30 people out on the hot desert in the middle of July, we decide that we need to scout out a place that we can find fossils easy. So this morning Jared, Bryce, Cindy, and I headed out onto the desert. We were armed with a few rock and fossil maps that Bryce picked up from the forest service. We had traveled for 1 1/2 hrs. when we came upon a bunch of signs that read "Barsoom" and arrows pointing where to go. My thoughts were that some one put out some elaborate family reunion signs. When we got to the place that this barsoom was taking place it looked like maybe a desert race. But upon close inspection we noticed that there weren't any motor cycles or dune buggies. All the entrances to this place were blocked and guarded. We were worried that it was some illegal thing going on. but decided that they wouldn't advertise it if it was. Remember we are out in the middle of no where. There are motor homes, forklifts , lights, and all sorts of things out there at barsoom. So we kept moving. Anyways we found fossil mountain in a round about way. Discovered some fossils and headed back for home. We did drive out to u-digg fossils to see if we could find any trilobites. We don't want to pay to dig for them because that costs to much for some of or all of the families coming for the reunion. So we looked around the area and had no luck finding any trilobites for free. If anyone knows a good place to go let me know. Sorry this story is getting longer and off the subject. I came home and googled the word barsoom. I found out that it is a movie being shot by Disney in the west desert of Utah. I wish so bad now that I would have taken pictures. I guess some of the movie takes place on mars. So what better place to film mars than out in the middle of now where Utah. The movie is due out in 2012. And according to the web site I found they will be filming in Utah until July 2010. If I go back out there I will take pictures.

Cat Fight

Yesterday, and the last three days, have been really rainy. My cat doesn't like to be outside when it snows or rains. So when the door was opened when the kids came home from school she ran in the house and hid.One of her favorite places to hide is under Malia's bed. A few hours after the cat came in Malia went in her room to play. The cat came out from under her bed and it scared Malia. So when Malia screamed it scared the cat. So the cat attacked. And this is what happened...

Malia came out of her room holding a lot of blood in her hands. Head wounds always look worse than they are because they bleed a lot. I got her cleaned up and then looked at her lip. It was split open. I figured she would need at least one stitch to close it. So we took her out to see Dr. Brown. He did a good job at stitching her up. In the end she got 3 stitches instead of the 1 that I thought. The Dr. asked her if she wanted a mirror to look at it and she refused. When we got home I wanted to take a picture of it and see went hysterical. She was crying "i am to ugly, it looks to bad" So I wasn't able to get a picture of it then. Obviously I was able to talk her into it a few hours later. She is such a sensitive girl. She was really worried about going to school and church. It will be interesting to see how her day goes. Oh and I told her I would not show anyone her picture. So please don't tell her I did. I wanted to have a record of it though.

Mother's Day

Since Jared is gone on Sunday's he and the kids gave me my mothers day presents today. I told Jared that all I wanted for mother's day was to do nothing, but have everything done. In other words I wanted to lay around and be lazy, but I can't do it if the house is a mess. So Jared and the kids were in charge of all the cleaning, cook, potty training, everything. So that is what Jared gave me for mothers day. He did dishes, made all the beds, watched the kids, cook lunch, dinner, (Candace cook breakfast) dressed Degan, and was super sweet all day.

Candace gave me a beaded string for my key chain. I really love it. She did a great job with it. She also made a "book" that had all the things she loves about me in it. It is thoughtful.
Malia gave me a really cute card that had a poem and flowers with kisses (Hersey's) on it. And a surprise that she had been keeping a secret for a week. And a week is a really Looooong time for her. When we were in Salt Lake last weekend Malia stayed with her Grandpa Cannon while we went to Candace's last volleyball tournament. While we were gone she was a big helper and helped Grandpa dig a trench in his yard. So when they went down to Lowe's for some parts Grandpa said that Malia could have $5 for helping him out. Malia told Grandpa that she didn't want to spend the money on her. She wanted to buy me a mothers day present. That really impressed Jared's dad, but it doesn't surprise me. She is a very thoughtful girl. Anyway Welles helped her find a flower to give to me. She and Jared hid it and took care of it all week and I had no clue at all. Now I just pray that I don't kill it, because she will be devastated if I do.

I am so thankful for the 3 kids I have. They truly are the best kids anyone could ask for. Oh I forgot Degan gave me a mothers day present too. He thought it was so fun that everyone had given me a present so he went outside and got 3 toys of his and brought them into me. He said "I have a present for you to mom." And handed me a toy tire, a plastic water gun, and his lightening McQueen car. Then he told me that he need to wash them for me first. It was really cute.

Hospital Visit #2

Saturday morning Degan started to run a fever. He slept most of the day that day. Then on Sunday morning he acted like he was doing better. I debated on going to church, but decided that I better not take him just in case he was contagious. Then Sunday afternoon Degan started to run a fever of 102 again and slept most of the afternoon. That evening he acted better and started to play again. Then about 5:00 a.m. Monday morning he started to fever again. So at 8:30 a.m. (that's when you have to start calling the clinic to be able to get an appointment) I called and got him a 2:30 appointment with the doctor. I knew though that when the appointment time came around that he would be up and running around and acting great. But I was wrong. By the time the appointment came around Degan pretty much wasn't moving. His eyes were black and his color wasn't good. The nurse took his oxygen level and it was 81 (you want it to be at least 90 or above) He had a temp of 102.5. The doctor sent us to the hospital. By the time we were all checked in the nurses took another oxygen level and temp. reading, he had drooped to 76 on oxygen and raised to 103 on temp. He did not look good.

After 2 days Degan started to "wake up" His fever broke and he was looking a lot better. But he wasn't able to keep his oxygen up to where it needed to be on room air. So he couldn't go home yet. In all we spent 4 days in the hospital. One more day than we had to last time.

Three Sundays ago I was released as primary president. I really loved the calling. Last Sunday I was put in the young women's to be the secretary. I am so thankful to have another calling. Because I was going crazy sitting around on Sunday when I felt like I needed to be doing something. I am really excited to be the Secretary. I can't wait to get going on it.

Up Dates

Candace just started doing club volleyball this Jan. They had their first volleyball tourn. this last weekend in Ogden Friday and then in Salt Lake Sat. Jared and I went and watched all day and we loved it. You could tell a big difference from their first game on Friday to their last game on Sat. I really think that Candace likes to play. I hope she sticks with it and is able to make the high school team. (long ways away I know) I want my kids to involved in something through high school so they don't have as much time to get into trouble. Anyways the team did great. They never won a game, but they were close in score every time. And they were also the youngest team there. So they did awesome for playing against 12 year olds.

I ruined my camera last summer when we went on vacation to Santa Cruz. I was showering off my kids in the out side shower after we returned from the beach and I forgot that I had put my camera in my board shorts pocket, and the water ruined it. So I got a new one for Christmas. Now I have to back and up date our lives. So these pictures are Christmas. We spent Christmas eve with my family. Then we drove up to Provo to have Christmas with Jared's family. We had a good time and enjoyed seeing everyone. (I don't know why this is typing in blue and underlining everything.)

All of my brother and sisters were home for Christmas this year. I am thankful I have a big close family.

Summer Vacation

This year for our Cannon family reunion we went to Santa Cruz California. We rented a beach house in which we all could fit. We spent most of the time on the beach. The kids loved playing in the water. The water wasn't super warm but it was good after you get use to it.

One of the days we went to the Syemore discovery center. They had a touch tank that you could feel star fish, hermit crabs, sea cucumbers and sea urchints. Malia loved the touch tanks. She looked around the discovery center for a minute then ran right back to the touch tanks.

At the beach Degan wouldn't get into the water, but he loved the sand. Malia is sad in the picture above because Degan kept wrecking her sand castles. The ocean where we were at was so full of sea life. There were seals all around. We watched dolphins out in the bay. On our last morning there Jared and I woke up at 6:30 a.m. and went for a walk on the beach. We found lots of sand dollars (dead and alive), crabs, washed up jellyfish, sea shells, ans snails. So while we were on this romantic walk all we could think about was how much fun our kids would have had if they were with us. So we decided to stay an extra day so that we could bring them back the next morning. They loved looking for all the sand dollars and sea shells also. I think it was worth the extra day.

We walked down the beach about a mile to this old ship that is made out of conceret. It was built during world war 1 but the war ended before it was finished. It never got a engine in it. Some rich people boughtit and towed it to this location and left it. Well they turned it into a dance place and dinner thing. They went bankrupt and the boat was left there. It is so ugly. There is so much bird poop on it and it is falling apart.

Degan scared us a couple of time when we couldn't find him. He discovered the big holes that people would dig. He climbs down into them and you can't see him. But he loved to play in there.
We also went to Monteray Bay Equarium.(thanks Jim) It is an awesome place. The kids loved it. It took us hours to get all the way through it and we didn't take our time looking. The equarium also had a touch tank that Malia loved. Candace now says she wants to be a marine biologist and work mainly with sea otters. Oh I forgot that on our 14 hr. drive out there we ran out of gas. To make matters worse we were in Jared's desil truck. You can't just add gas and go you have to prim the truck and then hope it starts. We were there for 1 1/2 hrs. Thank heavens Bryce and Cindy were traveling with us. Anyways thanks to California crew for putting together an awesome vacation.

Happy Birthday Sarah

We celebrated Sarah's 24th birthday today. I took some pictures of her at the party we had, but I left my camera at my mom's house. So this baby picture will have to do. I have good memories of Sarah growing up. She is a person who loves and cares for all, even flys. I was babysitting Sarah one night and I had heard that if you drowned a fly and then pour salt on it, it will come back to life. So I thought it would be fun to try. Well the whole time that we were experimenting with this fly Sarah was crying. It was so bad that we were hurting this fly. She has the softest heart. We always tease her (and Melissa) about the blond things that they do in life. I have to tell my favorite one. Sorry Sarah. When I was 9 months pregnant with Candace, Jared and I took Sarah out on the desert to teach her how to ride a motorcycle. Jared explained all the gears, clutch, brakes ect. to her. Then he told her she needed to kick the bike to get it started. So she takes the heal of her foot and spurs the bike like you would a horse. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to go into labor. It was so funny. My little brother Eric was there too and he didn't even crack a smile. All he did was say "that was the stupidest thing I ever saw". Now Sarah claims that she thought that maybe you needed to kick it so that you then could start it. Kind of like if you have a crappy t.v. and you have to hit it hard to get the picture to work. But we all know that it was just a dumb blond moment. We all love you Sarah, and are thankful that we have you in our family. Happy Birthday!
