Day After Black Friday

Day after Black Friday....  What did you do Black Friday?  I used to go shopping years ago. I would read the sales items in the newspaper after the dishes were done on Thanksgiving day.   Back when the stores opened at 6 or 7 am.  (cause you would not think of going on Thanksgiving day, that was a family holiday to give Thanks) When you  could actually be an hour late still get the free gift they offered and find what you were after.  When everyone would say "Excuse Me", "Thank You".    Gee, what happened to those days??

 Now, I sit at home, put on my Christmas music and get out all my Christmas decorations.  Then eat lots of leftovers. (am I getting old or what?)  AS FAR AS "CYBER SATURDAY".....  I  will check out a few things out.  I am finding though, that you must watch.  They are not all real sales but items that were marked up and then put on sale to look like a bargain.  I found through the years that the closer to Christmas sometimes the better deals come out.    I have been making most of my gifts.  I love making my own gifts.  I was brought up that the gifts you make are more from the heart.   I started a few months back.  I made quilts, table toppers, wall hangings,  etc.






I have also been making mug rugs.  I made a few special ones.  My cousin love Hummingbirds, so I did this:






Oh, and Candle mats:  My friend loves Angels



Sometimes the little things can be a lot of fun to make.  

I am now working on a Snowman wall hanging.  Oh what fun....

Now I know everyone is very busy, including myself.

Black Tie Boogie Hop

Is it Friday already,  where do the weeks go?  I was told by my mother when I was a little girl that the older you get the faster time goes by.  Boy, I hate to admit how right she was.  

Today is my day to show what I came up with for the "Black Tie Boogie" hop.  And wait till you see what I made.   

But first and foremost, I want to thank
  Vickie Mazurek   and   Madame Samm
     for all their hard work to make this all possible. 

When I first heard of the Black Tie Boogie hop, my first thought was making something out of black ties.  Oh, was I wrong....this is sooo much more fun!  

I never made roosters before, so I got out my paper and drew this:


OK, it was a normal rooster, so I did him in this cool fabric I had.
He ended up a Mug Rug for a good friend of mine that LOVES Spots.


Now my juices are flowing.  I got out my paper again.  Oh look, Foghorn Leghorn is flirting with those chickens again:



Oh I had fun hunting for the right fabric that I had in mind for him.  (I used some of my scrap Bali's)




I machine appliqued them onto a gray background, added a boarder and quilted it in a grid.
And here it is with the finishing touches on:

Sad to say, this is the last Blog hop of the year.  The holidays are coming and everyone is going to be very busy.  I know I sure am.  I have been trying to keep up with Christmas items and getting ideas for Christmas presents to get and make.  Oh, this was always my favorite time of year.  The day after Thanksgiving is the day to put up my tree and decorate.  I love turning all the lights out at night and turning on the Tree lights.  Then light a few candles on the Mantle.  Oh, what a great atmosphere of the season.  

But wait....before we all go off and doing our own thing for the season, I got this really cool EQ Quilting Designs program with over 800 quilting designs that I am givingaway.

Christmas Place Mats & Winner Announced

What a busy week!   I have been reading so many great postings from "For the Boys", got sooo many GREAT ideas, met new quilting friends.

So, I want to give a big THANK YOU to AMY and MADAME SAMM

 Plus, I went on a Field Trip on Wednesday with my Quilt Guild.  We went Quilt shop hopping.  It was soooo much fun.  Then ate at this great place called "Patty's" located in "Land between the Lakes" in Kentucky.  Oh what fun.

I have also been busy making items for Christmas, including these place mats.  They are sooo easy to make.

      You will need: 
           4  stirips of Christmas Fabric  4" X 18"
           4  panels of white or off white  10 1/2" X 18"


Sew the two pieces together


Then draw your applique, anything you want.  
You can even fussy cut a design out of one of your fabrics.


Place the applique onto the place mat, anywhere you want
Applique by machine however you wish.
Then layer them and quilt as desired.
I also machine quilted a coordinating color binding on by machine.




You can put anything on them.  Design them anyway you want.
Sometimes I embellish them with fabric paint, embroidery, sometimes I add buttons. 
Just have fun with them.

Lets hear it "For the Boys"!

Today is Monday and my day to show what I made "For the Boys".  Oh, I have done so much already for the boys.  Since we have 2 sons and 3 grandsons.   This was an easy one.

Thank you so much Madame Samm and Amy for coming up with this idea and guiding us all along to a wonderful hop.  You sure keep us on our toes and keeping our minds going with ideas with all the different hops you come up with.

Once I signed up for this hop, I started to make a quilt for my youngest son.  He is now 33 (boy is that hard to believe)  Anyway,  he did not want any prints, then said he didn't want any prints.  So I came up with an assortment of Mirage solids by Connecting Threads.  Then started making HST's.  Many HST's.  (total of 576 -  2 1/2 inch)  Plus triangles.  Well, the block was 8 inches and looked like this:



I had the whole quilt together in just a few days.  Then I layered, basted and I did something I did not do in a long time.  I hand quilted the whole thing.  Why you ask?  Because I wanted to do something different.  I did all hand quilting before I got my machine.  It also gave me something to do while watching TV at night.  

It is called "Ships in the Night"  So I quilted in  Nautical designs.

Total size is 72" X 86"



Our grandsons live in the state of Washington so we don't get to see them each summer.  (also due to school)   When they came to spend the summer with us in 2010.  So when they left I made this for them to put in their bedroom to remember that summer.

Did you see how the stores got out all the Christmas decorations already?  I have been seeing it now for over a month.  They are really trying to get you into the spirit huh?   



I usually don't get into it until after Thanksgiving.  But, I am starting to make some gifts.  Trying to keep ahead.

So I have these two cute patterns that I am giving away:

       

1.   is the Yuletide Santa, completed he will stand 38 inches tall.     2.  Then there are 6 differents stocking ornaments.  They can be made with felt or wool.  They are the cutest things.

Apple Cake Anyone?

I cannot believe that the "Wicked" hop is over already.  (How time flies when you are having fun.)

Thank you sooo much Wendy and Madame Samm for such a "Wickedly" great hop!  We all had so much fun and seen so many "Wicked" projects.  

So now that Halloween is over what do you do?   The trees are all turning such beautiful colors,  Fall is in Full bloom.  Time to clean our yards and clean out the flower beds.  Get everything ready for Winter.  Oh, and start baking.  (I love to bake).  It is the time of year for Pumpkin Bread, Pumpkin Pies, Pumpkin Bread, Mincemeat Pies, Apple Pies, etc.




Well, I got lots of Apples....

I would like to share a great Apple Cake recipe with everyone.



                          APPLE CAKE

Peal and dice 5 large apples

2       cup sugar
2       cup flour
1       tsp. baking powder
1       tsp. baking soda
1       tsp. cinnamon
   dash of salt
2       eggs
1 ½   stick butter  (melted)
1       cup milk
1       cup meats (optional)  I use chopped pecans

         Mix all ingredients together.  Put in 9” X 13” pan.  Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 350 degrees.  Serve plain or top with whipped cream or ice cream.

This is a very moist cake and sooo delicious.

This time of year my husband comes home from work to a house that always has a  pleasant aroma every night.  As he comes in the house it is "Hi, honey, how was your day...What did you make?"  LOL

 Did you ever make a flannel quilt?  I made this one with easy 2 1/2 inch squares and 2 1/2" X 4 1/2"  rectangles.    I just arranged them in different angles.  It sure was a puzzle putting it together so not to get to of the same fabrics together.  Ahhh but it is sooo soft!  Won't be long and the cold weather will set in and I will use it to sit and watch movies at night.
