How Do Princesses Stay So SKINNY?

Submitted by Emily:

Once upon a time in a magical land far away, all the princesses in story books were magically in shape and always had the perfect body size. I have lately wondered what kept all those girls SO fit! What do they do that we don't do?? We cook, clean, and look after rascals. WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

It was the other night when I realized what it was. The princesses work out during the day. Just look at this list:

Cinderella:
-Descends 50 stairs from attic room (thighs and hamstrings)
-Stands on tip-toe to reach food and dishes (calves)
-Holds her arms at a 90 degree angle while balancing a tray of food on her hands and her head(biceps, triceps)
-Climbs up 35 stairs and delivers food (hamstrings, thighs)
-Descends 35 stairs (hamstrings, thighs)
-Laundry, collecting and washing (biceps and triceps)
-Washing the floor on her hands and knees (stretching out her arms!)
-Singing (abs!)
-Many other random things her stepmother makes her do... a complete workout...everyday!

Snow White:
-Ascends and Descends stone steps (thighs, hamstrings)
-Cranks the handle for the well (biceps)
-Ran at least a 5K in the forest (all legs muscles, cardio)
-Laundry, collecting
-Singing (abs!)
Belle:
-Power walking, dancing (all muscles)
-Constantly moving her arms- holding heavy books (biceps, triceps, back)
-Rides horse (muscles)
-Goes outside whenever she can (power-walking)
-Has to handle a beast (you'd have to be fit for that! :))
Sleeping Beauty (She does more than just sleep!):
-Cleans windows (bicep, tricep)
- Constantly is prancing around (calfs)
- Goes walking for at least 3 hours per day
-Dances
-Sings (abs)
Ariel
-Is contantly swimming (that takes some serious muscels!)
-Sings (abs!)
***What more do I need to say? Theses ladies are skinny because they excersise constantly! Maybe there's a way we could use these ideas in our lives....it might help!!!!

The Savior's Final Week

My dear friend, Rebecca has asked a small group to do a post on their blog about what happened in the Savior's life on a specific day, the week before Easter. I have been asked to discuss what happened on day 3 and 4 in the Savior's final week on earth. This could never be all-inclusive, so I have only been able to touch on a few highlights. I have cited my resources at the bottom of this blog. After reading this blog, I would love to have you post any comments you may have on this topic.

Day three and four (Tuesday and Wednesday) of the last week of the Saviors life was pretty eventful. First, Christ dealt with many attacks from current secular and religious leaders who felt threatened. All attempted to discredit him in some way because they could see from the behavior of the masses that they were beginning to shift their loyalty to Christ and the current leaders didn’t like it.

1st- Existing Temple Leaders: In the recent past, these leaders had been kicked out and rebuked from their actions at the Temple twice by Christ. Deep down I think they knew they had been exploiting the Lord’s vineyard and had cast away any prophet who had previously come. They taught by appealing to the masses and not by what the Lord would have them do or what they really believed. (Matt 21:23-27)

2nd-Followers of King Herod: These were people who supported the Roman leadership and wanted to thwart any new religious leadership. Christ perceived their wickedness when they asked “What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?” He called them hypocrites and said unto them “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s” (Matt. 22:17-21)

3rd- Sadducees: Christ knew the Sadducees disagreed with the Pharisees on many religious questions including the resurrection. He clarified that “God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” (Matt: 22:28-32)

4th-Pharisees: Here is where Christ shared the unequivocal answer to what is the greatest commandment. He answered, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Matt. 22:37-39)

Note: Christ was questioned in attempts to find fault with Him during the same time that the Passover lambs for the year were being checked for faults.

Next is the time Jesus spent with His disciples on the Mount of Olives. This is referred to the Olivet Discourse. Here is where Christ gave them clarification on the prophecies of the destruction of Jerusalem and the following events leading to the end of the world at the second coming. Three chapters in the New Testament summarize this time: Matt 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. It was also revealed to Joseph Smith in JS-Matthew 1:23.

After answering the disciple’s questions, Christ taught them through sharing the last three parables recorded in the New Testament:

-The parable of the ten virgins
-The parable of the entrusted talents
-The parable of inevitable judgment

We can learn from these parables what we must be doing to prepare for Christ’s return. All of Christ’s parables are important messages for us to live by, but knowing that these were the last three given to us makes these even more worthy of note. The parable of the ten virgins has always been significant to me. One interpretation is we can’t give someone our own testimony (our own beliefs) about Christ. Just like the virgins could not share their own oil. I have also compared the oil to our actual temple recommends. You can’t lend your recommend to someone else and have them use it to enter into a House of the Lord. Each person needs to cultivate their own oil (testimony) in their own lives. We should all be living in a way that we will be looking forward to and be ready for Christ’s triumphal return.

References I used to bring together this report was taken from the following sources.
Ensign April 1972: “The Greatest Week in History” by Daniel H. Ludlow
Ensign April 2009: “Reflections on the Savior’s Last Week” by Eric D. Huntsman
LDS Pamphlet: Chart 2 New Testament Times at a Glance: The Savior’s Final Week

Thanks so much, Rebecca for including me in this remarkable study of the Savior’s final week. This year, Easter will have a more special impact on me and my family because of this assignment.

Christmas Tradition

A few year's back, we had so much fun making gingerbread houses with Grandma Ina that we decided to make it an annual event. So, the first Monday in December is a pre-planned FHE to make gingerbread houses (aka graham cracker houses...). Uncle Greg and Aunt Pyper came this year and we had some pretty remarkable creations!

We went through LOTS of frosting!!!

I love to watch how different each person makes their own house. Some know exactly how they want their's to be, and then work fast and furious. Others take their time and experiment with the unlimited options. No matter the means, the end result is always awesome!

Hailey and Dad's three snowman chateau. This is the first year Hailey actually cared how her house turned out.

Elise, Uncle Greg, Riley (neighbor), Aunt Pyper, and Keith. They all were working so intensely that I couldn't divert their attention to look up at the camera!

Anyone have other fun Christmas traditions they enjoy with their family? We'd love to hear about them! Merry Christmas!

Happy Halloween!

We had a great time decorating the front of our home for Halloween this year. Although the neighbor's puppy chewed up some of the lighting that at one time led all the way down the driveway to the sidewalk, the decorations by the front door remained unscathed! Here are a few pics to spread our halloween holiday cheer! (p.s. Peggy, this is for you!)

Hike to the "Y"

Keith, Elise, Allison, Hailey and family friend, Rob Thorne hiked to the Y during Homecoming weekend. When they reached the top, they were able to see how they light up the "Y." Emily and I were attending a concert to fufill a homework assignment, but want to go next time!!

What an awesome view!
