FOOD STORAGE?

I blog a lot more when I'm sick because I don't really feel like doing housework or much else. Here's a conversation Jake and I had a few weeks ago:

Jake: So I really want to get a couple young steers.

Alayna: Why? We don't need any more animals to feed and CHASE at the moment. If you haven't noticed, baling twine and wood pallets don't make the best gates and fencing material. We (translation: You) have to much work to do on our fences before we can get anymore livestock.

Jake: But they're really cheap right now. You can get a completely weaned, hay fed calf for less than you could get a newborn a few years ago. Besides, consider it FOOD STORAGE. My parents, Randy, and Lori all want to go in on them with us.

Alayna: Fine, but I am NOT feeding them and they had better not get out!

(famous last words.)

You're probably wondering what that smell is, right? That would be the smell of cow manure on my pants.

Just got back from taking Ridge to the doctor. On top of having a nasty cold (not RSV thankfully) he has an EAR INFECTION! Poor little guy! And now I have caught Jake's cold. Sick baby + sick mommy= no sleep! Not a good combination. I can not wait until SPRING! I am so sick of being cooped up fighting colds all winter long!

Speaking of spring, look what has been growing in my front yard under all that snow!

And look what's popping up in my front flower bed!

I think it's safe to safe that Spring is on it's way! I'm so excited!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The boys made chocolate dipped strawberries to eat with our heart shaped crab cakes on valentine's day. They were delicious (and very messy!)

Just wanted to post a few pics of my adorable little boys and post a few things that I love about each of them.
Dalton: He is at such a fun age. I love to just sit and chat with him. At times I almost feel like I'm talking to another adult. He's so smart! He has the best memory! He's reading like a champ. One of his favorite things to do is to spell out funny sentences to me such as: Y-o-u p-o-o
Then he laughs hysterically! He has been helping a ton around the house lately, which is such a blessing to me.
He is quite the negotiator. I'll ask him to do a chore and tell him he can earn five o's to put on his chart and he'll say, how about six?
He really is a good kid. The other day he was signing his name on his valentine's to give to his class. They were super hero valentines and he came across one with wonder woman on it. He said,"mom, she's not dressed very modestly, I don't want to give this one out." I looked at it and sure enough wonder woman was not dressed modestly so we threw all those one's out.

Gunnar: Gunnar is my chatty little guy. I love to just sit and listen to him tell me stories. Gunnar is really enjoying mother goose time preschool. He's learning how to write his name and to write his letters. He still loves to snuggle with me and loves to just be held, rocked, sang to, and read to. He still loves his elephant blanky, monster trucks, monster truck t-shirts and sweat shirts. (the yellow sweatshirt he's wearing in this picture has monster trucks on it.) He loves motorcycles and tractors. His favorite color is green. He loves his brothers. He just started sunbeams in January. No more nursery. He struggles a little and sometimes has to have me go to the first part of sharing time with him. But he eventually warms up and is really enjoying primary. He's going through the terrible three's a little bit, trying to express his independence. He's probably my most stubborn child. He likes things to be just right, and if they're not then he can throw the world's worse tantrums! He is also a really good boy. Gunnar and Dalton were watching the Sandlot the other day, I was doing some housework and not really paying attention. The next thing I know Gunnar gets up and turns the TV off and says,"mom, we're not gonna watch that show anymore because those boys don't talk nice." Talk about a humbling moment. I was so proud that he recognized that and stood up for what was right, but I also felt so guilty for allowing them to watch that show in the first place. It's funny how my kids notice way more than we did as kids, that was one of Jake and I's favorite shows as kids.

Ridge: What a precious little angel he is! He's such a good baby! (Other than not being the best sleeper at night.) He's so happy and content most of the time. He's really sick right now with an awful cold. But for the most part he just goes with the flow. He's content to just hang out on a blanket on the floor and watch his brothers run laps around him. He loves his brothers! Every time he hears or sees them his face just lights up! I love the stage he's at right now. Every day is a new discovery! He's rolling everywhere now, he's close to scooting and crawling. He just cut his third tooth: top left. He loves being put down for bed, I lay him down and turn on his mobile and he watches it and just smiles! He loves to jump! Either in his jumper or in your lap he doesn't care just let him jump! He loves to hear himself. Especially when his brothers aren't around to compete with. Whenever he has a quiet moment (usually in church) he loves to just chatter away and make embarassing razzing sounds! He's quite the comedian.

Oh, I so love this little guy! He's so stinkin cute!

Last but not least, Jake: I won't get too mushy since I did just do a mushy anniversary post a few months ago. I sure love this guy. Friday night we went on a Valentine's date with Shane and Geana. We had a coupon for Jasoh restaurant in Ogden, it was delicious! Then we went and saw Blindside. It was really good. I love going on dates with my honey! He's such a wonderful husband and father. So grateful for him!

Ridge's New Car Seat Cover

My friend, Valerie, had the cutest car seat cover for her baby Sunday at church. I told her how much I liked it and she said she'd be willing to help me make one. So Monday morning she took me to Joann's and we picked out fabric. She made me a pattern and I went home and attempted it. I am not a sewer, what a proficient sewer could have whipped out in an hour took me all day to do. But I am so happy with the results! All I have left to do is sew on the star buttons (Joann's only had one button so I have to wait until next week until the other one comes in.)

Conversation between me and my 6 year old

Me: Dalton, I don't want you to watch any more TV today.
Dalton: Why?
Me: Because I want you to use your brain and play a game or play with toys or something besides watch TV.
Dalton: But TV is your child's window to the world.
Me: Where did you learn that?
Dalton: From a TV commercial.

Our half bath is finally finished!

We've had one last room to finish on the main floor of the house and that's been our little 1/2 bath just off the dining room. When we took the roof off the house and added the new upstairs we had to take the stairs above the 1/2 bath which took out the ceiling so it's been pretty torn up for a long time. Jake had some time off work between Christmas and New Year's and was able to get this little bathroom finished. I love it! It's my new favorite room in our house! I'm hoping I can find some before pictures of it to post later.

My latest project

I realize that I haven't been posting a lot of the projects we have been working on around here. This is the latest one that I just finished. I found a hutch on KSL that I fell in love with but the lady wanted $400 which I am just way to cheap to pay that much for a piece of furniture that is more of a want then a need. So I thought I wonder if I could find one like it for less and refinish it. So I found this one for $100 (imagine it without the white beadboard). Jake cut the beadboard for me and I brad nailed it in and spray painted the edges a cream color, then I spray painted the whole thing a few coats of flat black, then sanded the edges a little. I also replaced the hardware. I'm grateful for some of the new skills I learned while building this house, such as how to use power tools. I'm way excited about how well this hutch turned out, maybe I'll do some more projects like this later. I'm into the whole thing about $130. This is how it looks now:

Pics!

Here's a picture of Ridge at Laura and Brandon's reception on Jan. 7th

Here's our little family at Shane and Geana's house on New Year's Eve. We all stayed up until 1:00 in the morning! Definately an all time record! We had a good time! It was just us, Shane and Geana's family, and Blake, Jessica, and Brody. Jessica brought cheese and chocolate fondue and we had fun eating and playing games.

Geana had the boys play the game where they tie a balloon around their ankle and try to pop eachother's balloons. We had a count down around 10:30 and the kids banged on bread pans and popped confetti filled fire works.

Here's some more pictures from Laura and Brandon's reception:

Brotherly Love!
This is a picture I just took of Gunnar and Ridge, aren't they adorable!?

I'm a slacker I know...

So I've been slacking on blogging lately, and I even have the internet now! It's just been pretty crazy the last month and I haven't had a spare second! Right now the boys and I are sick! Ridge has croup and Dalton sounds hoarse, congested, and has a fever. Gunnar seems to always have a cough and congestion this time of year due to his athsma. I'm congested with a sore throat . . . oh the joys! Plus Jake's been out of town for work so it's been the kids and I stuck in the house 24/7 the past couple days. I feel so bad for Ridge, he's kinda lost his voice and he sounds like a little puppy! I took him in to the doctor Sunday morning because he was wheezing really bad and had a dry barky cough. I've been really fortunate to not had either of the other two be sick until after they were a year old. It's so scary having a sick baby. I just feel very blessed to have been able to keep Ridge healthy this long, especially with two older brothers trying to maul him constantly! The congestion in Ridge has now moved to where I can't get to it with the bulb surringe any more and he's trying to cough it up but he doesn't know how so he kind of chokes and gags on it, I feel so bad for him! Well, time to get back to being the mom . . .

More Christmas Pics

The night after Christmas we got together with the Dalton's at my parents house. We had a gourmet prime rib dinner w/ grilled salmon. It was delicious! We did a white elephant gift exchange. Here's a few pictures of the best white elephants:

The grandkids had drawn names to exchange gifts. Kynlee had Gunnar. She gave him the movie Kung Fu Panda. Gunnar got more excited about that present than any other he had recieved from Santa!

Natalie, Clayton, and Kynlee.
Candace, Jeff, and Kade.
