Way to go, Dynamo!

Lately we have had the chance to go to some pro sports games thanks to our generous friends giving us free tickets. We got to see the Houston Astros lose to the Cardinals in the Minute Maid park stadium. I think we had more fun talking to our friends and taking pictures. :)

making friends with the players

We also got to go to a Houston Dynamo vs. Real Salt Lake soccer game. (Thanks Matt & Haley!)They gave out free hats to everyone over 21. Jacob turned his backwards b/c it says budweiser on the front (which he covered with black marker once we got home)!
Peter & Lauren (A few people have said that Jacob and Peter look like brothers. I don't know if these pics are the best to show it, maybe you have to see them in real life!)

They actually won 3-2.

I heard a joke on the radio the other day that made me laugh, especially after going to this soccer game. They said that research has now shown that soccer is better exercise for you than jogging or running, but jogging and running are more fun to watch! That was true for most of this game, but it did get more exciting towards the end. What sports do you like to watch?

It's Jacob's birthday today!! Here are a few pictures over the last 29 years...

completing one of his many food dares as a missionary- he ate a 1 pound block of cheese in a few hours all because he wanted a little bit to go with his bread (he didn't have any cheese, but one of the other missionaries in his apt. did, so the dare was to eat all of the cheese or get none) our wedding day, Dec. 2002

The Office is back for its 6th season and I am soo excited!! Do you think Pam and Jim's wedding will really happen this season? What did you think of last night's episode? Loved the part about Michael getting picked last for teams and showing up to play poopball. Ha ha! What shows are you watching this fall?

Houston Zoo

On Labor Day we played tennis in the morning and then decided to go to the zoo. After driving around for 30 minutes just to find a parking spot, we finally gave in and paid $10 to be in a parking garage. (Just one of the little things I miss about a small town.) It was fun to see all of the animals including a white alligator and the biggest orangutan I've ever seen.
Can you tell we're in Texas? the bald eagle, one of my favorite animals
being a flamingo :)

Still smiling despite the heat and crowds...
We had a good time but were relieved to get home out of the sun and relax and watch some of the U.S. Open.

Moon rocks, helmets, and crepes

We got to go to the NASA Space Center a couple of weeks ago. It is a pretty fun place. We took a little tram over to the Johnson Space Center and got to see a rocket called Saturn V that once took astronauts to the moon. It is huge! It's so big it was hard to get it all in one picture. Jacob thought I was brave for trying on this space helmet that lots of other people have had on their heads. He wouldn't even touch it. I don't think I got anything from it...at least not yet anyway. ha, ha
touching a moon rock

This thing was supposed to show you how much weight you could lift on different planets. I don't think it worked b/c they all felt the same to me.

The Johnson space center is where a lot of the astronauts train for their missions. These are some of the training modules for living at the space station.
We enjoyed learning more about how the astronauts train and how they live in space. We even got to see how they use the bathroom (don't worry, there was no actual demonstration). They said that is the most popular question about living in space. It is a fun and informative museum and we were glad we went. Did any of you ever want to be an astronaut?

We ended the night by eating at a place in downtown Houston called CoCo's Crepes. We tried a savory and a sweet one. (Sorry, not a good picture. I was too hungry to care.) They were both delicious. It made me want to come home and make a bunch, but I haven't yet. Wish this restaurant was a little closer to us. But maybe it's better that it's not cause I'd eat there all the time!
