Oh so sweet!

Peter was working late tonight so I had the task of putting both boys to sleep. Not easy, I must say...finally though, at 10:30pm, both boys were FINALLY asleep. For the first time, they fell asleep together in the same bed. Pictures like this just melt my heart!!!

Apparently I look like a dog wearing glasses...

Most nights before bed, during "book time", we read Jack's favorite book, "Dr. Seuss' ABC's". Jack likes to point out what he sees on each page and almost every night when we get to "G" he tells me, "There's Mommy! There's Mommy". For some reason he thinks I look like a dog wearing goo goo goggles...

And yes, this is a drawing of a dog wearing glasses...the girl and goat are on the other page. I guess I can count myself lucky that he doesn't think I look like the goat!!!

Jack said something else funny the other day too -- he was looking at the bottom of his shoe and noticed a design in the sole that was a circle with 2 or 3 other circles around it. He told me it looked like "target". I thought, wow, he is quite astute and is learning lots of things at school... I then asked him where he learned what a target looked like...the answer..."buy cars; that is where Mommy buys Jack cars"! There have also been a number of times we ask him what he wants to do on a particular day, and instead of hearing that he wants to go to the park or on a walk, he tells us he wants to buy cars!!!!!!!!! I think I have created a monster...

Thanksgiving Weekend

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend with family, a trip to the beach and San Francisco, great meals made by Grandma and an early Christmas celebration.

Grandpa Jess arrived first on Tuesday night, then Grandma Kathy arrived Wednesday morning and Aunt Katie came on Wednesday night. Needless to say, I got to know the airport pretty well! Unfortunately on the way back, Aunt Katie's flight was eventually delayed over 18 hours, but poor thing eventually made it back to NYC.

Peter & I decided to give the boys their Christmas presents early since Grandma & Grandpa had gifts for them during their trip. Wyatt loved the wrapping paper and tried to eat it and Jack was thrilled to get any & all presents that had to do with the movie, "Cars".

Wyatt is 6 months old

Last Thursday Wyatt turned 6 months old. I really can't believe we've had him in our lives for half a year now...time truly flies when you're having fun!

Wyatt now has two little teeth, he has tried 4 or 5 different solid foods and he sleeps 10-11 hours straight through the night. He still does not nap much, but part of the reason could be that his brother is very loud!

At his six month doctor's appointment Wyatt weighed 14 pounds, 4 ounces (4th percentile) and was 26 inches tall (30th percentile). As you can see, we have a small little guy, but he is constantly motion, so perhaps that is why!

I took Wyatt for pictures last week that I thought I'd share. I am not totally fond of them, but they definitely show how he's matured from that little lump I held in my arms six months ago.

Today we found Wyatt asleep like this in the middle of the room! It was so sweet.

He even managed to sleep though his brother making loud comments while watching his favorite movie, "Cars", only a few feet away.

A Day at the Museum

Today we went to San Francisco to go to the California Academy of Science Museum in Golden Gate Park. The museum has a rain forest, aquarium, planetarium and natural history museum; however, we only visited the rain forest and aquarium -- and that made for a long day as it was.

The drive to San Francisco was smooth sailing and we made it to Golden Gate Park with no problem, but finding parking was a nightmare! We drove around for almost and hour before we found a parking spot (for $15 bucks). We finally got inside to meet our friends Jim, Kim & Allison an hour after we were supposed to be there and we were greeted by yet another line to get into the rain forest. It was quite impressive and worth the wait, but patience can be difficult when you have a whiny 2 year-old and a teething, hungry 5 month old.

The aquarium was also really interesting and Wyatt particularly enjoyed seeing all the fish! Again, the exhibit was extremely crowded (and it was also dark), so navigating around all the people in a dimly lit room with a double stroller was a challenge as well -- but we had fun! Jack got to touch a starfish and see an albino alligator.

After the museum, we went outside and let the kids run around for awhile, which, I believe, was the highlight of their day!!!

Another "Jack Attack" and a Wyatt update too!

Yesterday there was another "Jack Attack". I don't have pictures because there really wasn't much to see, but Jack got me good!

Our mornings are always a whirlwind of activity and getting ready consists of: taking baths, changing multiple diapers, breakfast, changing clothes a couple of times because someone inevitably spills something on them or a certain two year-old wants to wear blue instead of brown; then I usually have to fast-forward through the part of Jack's show that he doesn't want to watch, pack up the diaper bag for the day, find my cell phone and keys, put shoes on, get everyone loaded up into the stroller, change another last minute diaper, then finally get the door, etc. Some mornings it seriously takes 3 hours to get out the door.

Yesterday was a typical morning at our house and I was rushing out the door at 9:30 to get Jack to school. Everything was ready to go, I was putting Wyatt's shoes on and yelled for Jack to come to the front door and get into the stroller -- he complied and we went on our merry way. Wyatt and I had a great day together, ran errands, decided to just stay out all day and pick up Jack a few minutes early from school at 3pm. We got home and I thought maybe it smelled a little funny...then I got to the kitchen and the refrigerator door was standing wide open!!! For a split second I thought maybe we were robbed, but everything else seemed fine. Then I realized that the little stinker we also know as Jack, had opened the refrigerator door when we left for school!

After six hours, the food in the refrigerator was obviously not in good condition....Jack was begging for milk, but I couldn't give him any. Then I had to spend the next 30 minutes cleaning out all the spoiled food and taking it out to the trash. I do have to admit that I had been meaning to clean out the refrigerator for quite some time, but this is just not the way I had envisioned doing this task...we had quite the stockpile of condiments that I had to throw out unfortunately, but the upside is now the refrigerator is nice and clean. So, thanks Jack, I guess.

Now I am not sure what I am supposed to do to keep the refrigerator door from being opened by Jack. I caught him opening it again this morning to help himself to cheese...

On a brighter note, Wyatt's first tooth is poking through! It is a month earlier than Jack's first tooth and I am kind of expecting everything Wyatt does to be earlier. He also started eating solids this week and LOVES peas! He is not so sure about anything else yet though...we'll keep trying!!!

Halloween

We had a fun couple of days of celebrating Halloween. On the 30th, Wyatt and I attended a little costume party with our Las Madres 2008 Mother's Group. Wyatt dressed up as a hot dog and looked really cute! It finally cooled off, so he actually ended up being quite cozy in his costume!



Also on the 30th, Jack wore his adorable orange and black tie-dyed shirt to school to get in the Halloween spirit:

In the afternoon on Halloween, there was a costume parade and party at Jack's school. Amazingly, Jack didn't complain much about wearing his cowboy costume and the hat and boots were also much less of a struggle than I anticipated. He is, however, getting his molars and he picked up the bad habit of chewing on his shirt! And of course, it started on Halloween! So, pretty much every picture I have of him, he is chewing his shirt.




Because of the shirt chewing, we changed shirts for trick-or-treating. Jack's friend Allison came over to go trick-or-treating with him and they had lots of fun together!





I was also able to get a picture of Wyatt in his costume on Halloween. But, because the costume is pretty much a sack, I had to change him out of it to go trick-or-treating. Otherwise there would have been no way to strap him in a stroller or put him in the Baby Bjorn.

At first, Jack wasn't so sure about trick-or-treating, but he finally got excited when he realized there was candy involved. At the first house, he knocked on the door and as soon as the person opened it, he went inside! I guess he thought that was what you were supposed to do...

Our whole trick-or-treating extravaganza lasted about 30 minutes, but Jack got tons of candy because pretty much every place we went, he and Allison were some of the only children to come by. By the end of the night, Wyatt was tuckered out and fell asleep in the Baby Bjorn.

Young Starbucks customer

Yesterday I was so proud of Jack! We stopped by Starbucks during one of our frequent afternoon walks. I was dying for a coffee and it was also time for Wyatt to eat. I ordered my coffee and a cookie for Jack and sat down in my favorite spot to feed Wyatt. Jack asked me for water, but when I pulled out his sippy cup, I noticed it was almost empty. He was begging me for more, but I was obviously busy. So I told him to go up to the counter and ask for more water, not really thinking he would do it. Guess what? He did!

Jack proudly walked up to the counter, said "more water" and held his cup up high for the barista to see...then he came running back to me with his water in hand. Granted, he did cut in line in front of 8 or so people and didn't say "please" or "thank you", but he is two -- and, he was so cute doing it, that no one seemed to care.

Reminiscing

A year ago today, Jack started walking...oh, how my life changed that day!!! There was no more privacy to be had and suddenly Jack had free reign on the house = disaster. The first few days that Jack walked, he resembled Frankenstein by holding his arms straight out in front of him. Since that time, however, he hasn't slowed down and now he sometimes runs so fast, I can't even keep up with him.

Also, on a more serious note, for a kid born with Spina Bifida it is an amazing gift that he is able to do this!

Boys will be boys

We went outside today to the "spitting frogs" fountain to take pictures of Wyatt. Jack decided to entertain himself with the frogs and got really wet! He had so much fun spraying the water all over himself and at me. He didn't even want to go inside to dry off. There is no denying that I have a little boy! I am sure there will be many, many more times like this.
