Friday morning we got up early and headed up to Silverton. I had read about a hike that I wanted to go on while we were there. It was to a lake called Emerald Like. In order to get there, you had to hike by Ice Lake first. Well the hike was a lot tougher than I thought it would be and took longer than I thought it would. So by the time we got to Ice Lake we were ready to turn around. But Ice Lake was beautiful and we saw some beautiful country on our way up. We had to cross a river that was FREEZING cold to get up to the lake. There was still snow up there and the river was just snow run off. So we took our shoes and socks off and waded across. On the way back across, Jamie threw his shoes across the river before he crossed, and his sock must have fallen out of his shoes. So he had to walk down without a sock.
After we got back down to Silverton, we ate some lunch and shopped a little bit and then headed up to Ooray. The road between Silverton and Ooray is known as the million dollar highway. Some people say it's because there was a million dollars worth of minerals taken out of the surrounding mines, and other people say its because the road cost a million dollars a mile to make. It is a 2 lane road with cliffs that go straight down on one side, and no guard rails. It is a very pretty drive but is a little scary. We didn't get to stay very long but hopefully we will make it back to try out the hot springs.
Saturday morning we got up and went to the honey factory before heading home.
It was a relaxing couple days. I love spending time with Jamie. I love being married to him. I love seeing new places with him!
