Simple Piecing, This One Belongs To Me

I'll end 2009 with another "Elaine's" quilt (btw--Elaine's is another one of my favorite quilt stores). I love the colors in this quilt. The design is basic and simple but what a gorgeous quilt.

Very Geometric

So Stunning. This quilt is amazing Debbie. Your sister is going to love it... The sense of motion is incredible . Love that black and white too.

The back of "Very Geometric" This is another barter quilt. Debbie is a massage therapist( the best, by the way). I get some deep tissue massage sessions in trade for quilting this charmer.

Happy Christmas

Hangin' With My Sugarplums
This holiday season i have enjoyed some fun moments with my grandchildren. I just love some of the wonderful things kids say.

I call this story "Laughing All The Way"

Last Saturday i picked up my two oldest granddaughters so we could do something for the Salvation Army/ Angel Tree. This particular season i got too busy to do it the right way , so at the very last moment we dropped off a monetary donation (modest donation) at headquarters.

On the way home i had to stop off at Toy's R Us . Things had gone well @the Angel Tree. On the drive we discussed how easy it is to become homeless and that many homeless people are "working poor". I tried to keep it on a positive note( the 9 year old is so sensitive to sad stories) and they seemed to understand without feeling gloomy. I also tried not to be patronizing (hopefully never)

Silly me, I thought they could handle a stop at the toy store. I was not intending to buy anything for them (and i didn't ). The 6 year old wanted Pokemon cards and i was not buying. She begged and pleaded and lost her temper and said "I wish you didn't give all your money to the "stupid" Angel Tree .............. Laughing all the way( ho ho ho)

I call this story "True Friendship"

Days later the same 6 year old whispered to me that her friend saw Santa's "naughty and nice list". This little friend told Livvy "your name is on the good list"... Wow, what a great thing to tell your friend. I could learn a great lesson from that short story.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE, I SAW YOUR NAME ON THE GOOD LIST

Susan's Brown and Aqua

Susan pieced this gorgeous brown and soft aqua quilt for her daughter for Christmas. i believe she said she did it with left over fabric from another quilt. Most quilters know how to be resourceful (is it because husbands are watching?)

Olivia The Diva

Kristalee pieced this "Olivia" quilt for baby Nora. I had such a fun time quilting it. The back is cream colored minkee. Every "Olivia" fan needs one of these - so adorable (the quilt and the real girl)! PS the "real girl" is not Olivia.

Joslin

Joslin is visiting from Singapore and will be leaving at the end of the week. Luckily she has time to go to breakfast with me 12.10.09. We became friends because of quilts. i wanted to give her a little quilt that won't take up too much space in her luggage. This one is such a cute, little, frienship quilt . Merry Christmas Joslin... (purchased at Elaine's)

i spy with my little eye

Amy pieced this adorable little I spy quilt to keep a 1 year old quiet during church. There are some really unique fabrics that she found on the internet, (mostly etsy) Click on the picture to enlarge In addition to the seek and find items on the fabrics, i quilted in a lion, a lamb, a dinosaur , an elephant, a valentine heart, some sunshine, and a star (can you find them?). It's probably a bit "hokey" but she is my daughter. I took parental liberties.
PS there is also a witches hat.

Little Cowboys

The back of "i spy". 100% Adorable , i love the lil donkey's :-)

Go Easy On Yourself , Holidays Can Be Difficult

This neat little quote was posted on Facebook today from Tina Hender

Stress:-) is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness- R. Carlson

So that's what's going on right now, how enlightening. We should feel better already. It's just stress.

Happy Thanksgiving

Kristalee pieced this Thanksgiving "little quilt" (kit from Pine Needles) to decorate her holiday table . So cute

The center block is a log cabin,(i love log cabin blocks) and i liked the way i quilted it,, so i snapped it so i wouldn't forget.

Deadline

All 3 done by Thanksgiving. i put the pedal to the metal, These buggy barn stars are so cute worked into a tree skirt. Susan , Colette, and Wendy worked out the piecing and i'm sure it wasn't easy. Buggy barn is difficult , everything is on the bias. As i've said before i love the look of this crazy "whack away at it'' method .

Can you imagine the chore of binding these( actually i find binding extremely relaxing).
PS the center will be cut out and one "wedge" seam will be opened , then the binding begins.

For Baby

Bonnie pieced this adorable red and pale coral quilt for her granddaughters 1st birthday, Oh baby , oh baby, so cute. Red minkee on the back makes it- so soft.

Cowboy Baby

Amy has a new nephew who arrived early, weighing in at - just over 2 lbs. Such a cute little quilt for a strong "little" cowboy baby. I love the brown with the red, white, and blue. Who would've thought?

Family Tree / Great Christmas Gift

The names have been changed to protect the innocent(something like that)and 6 are completed. So beautiful and so meaningful, such a great sentimental Christmas gift. Myrna made 1 for each of her children and 1 for herself.

Pink, Green and Brown Barter Quilt

The theme fabric in this quilt is a "breast cancer awareness" motif. Kris' mother had breast cancer and the quilt was done with her mother in mind. i love the pink, green and brown together

Veterans Day Hollyhock

On Veterans Day, neighborhoods are decorated with flags standing at attention on lawns all across the valley
This little hollyhock flagged my attention, poking out of the ground with a brand new blossom this late in the year 11.11.09.
A little ray of sunshine. So today i won't think about the forecast for snow. ( the lucky owner of this flower is a WWII Veteran,...sweet)

Advancing in Scouting / Another Getting Married

A quilt is nice for any occasion . I believe this block pattern is called the Reverse 9 Patch and it works up great with the line of scouting fabrics out now.

Here Deanna has pieced this masterpiece for a son who will be getting married just before Thanksgiving. The color choices are spectacular. Quilts make the best gifts for our son's as well as our daughter's. (wedding , scouting, graduation, new home..... )

The back of Deanna's quilt makes a gorgeous whole cloth . She used a very subtle tan print. The stippling is small ,with a medallion feather in the middle. Colorful throw pillows could make the back side another decorating option. Classic quilt Deanna

Red and Green and Gold

During the summer Toni pieced a Christmas quilt just like this for a family reunion auction item. She finally got another one done just for her. This is a cutie for sure . There are a lot of metallic gold threads in her fabric choices so the quilt appears shiny. Nice touch

Liberty Strip Quilt

Strip quilting is one of my favorite piecing methods. It is the method our grandmothers used during very lean times. Any fabric they could round up, and it didn't have to be big pieces, sewed directly on to another strip of totally different fabric . During the depression newspaper was used for stablizing and warmth. The resourcefullness of strip quilting makes it very sentimental to me .

Below is my strip quilt. i pieced this quilt and taught this method in 2007 at the "Quilt Walk" in Panguitch , Utah. i try to attend the Quilt Walk Festival every year and have taught classes there several times. So fun
