A solution for a bird killing cat and an upcoming potluck

I wanted to wait a couple of months before posting about the catbib just to make sure that it worked. Back in the start of October our cat Button attacked two birds in one week. I did a search online and found info about catbibs. I decided to give it a go since locking inside was making her so miserable.

She quickly adapted to wearing it during the day when she goes outside and I am happy to report that there has not been any more injured or dead birds.

It doesn't seem to get in the way of her going about her normal activities either:

We might need to invest in a couple more though because already Button's cat bib is looking tattered and dirty. A few people have commented that she looks silly, but I think that she looks cute!

In other news, I am a month away from finally finishing my thesis, so am going to knuckle down and let Toby do all of the blogging until I have finished. Once I am finished I want to organise a potluck in Feb, maybe with a loose "cheese" related theme, if you are interested in coming and are not friends with me on facebook you can email me at inthemoodfornoodles (at) blogspot (dot) (com) or leave your email in the comments section.

I have a camera

I got a cheap olympus one for about $150 from Dick Smith. To celebrate, I made some white choc orange cookies. I followed the recipe from the have cake, will travel blog but substituted the whiskey with more soy milk and doubled the amount of white choc chips since the sweet william white choc chips are so small and I'm greedy. They looked overcooked on the bottom as you can see in the pic but they stilled tasted yummy and were fine in the inside with just a nice hint of orange. I'm still get used to the macro settings on the new camera because there is macro, and then super macro options. Maybe I should read the manual.

I also tested out the camera by taking some pics of button:
Here she is up close and asleep on my lap (and yes they are my pj bottoms in the background)

And here with one of her favourite toys, a lid from a plastic bottle. She has lots of cat toys but instead chooses to play with her own made up toys- like this lid or a hair clip or an elastic band. She will run around the house playing with them for hours.

More on Button and an explanation

No interesting baking lately and I don't have the energy for other posts. I was thinking about how little I post about real issues anymore and I realised that when I first started this blog I was working in crappola jobs like working in a call centre that didn't require much brain power or much emotional energy so I could use my spare time to write about stuff I cared about whether it was personal stuff or political stuff. I used to write about women's rights, and the whole female Caucasian dating an Asian male thing and lots more. Now that I work in a welfare related field I come home most days and I'm exhausted. Add into that mix placements and essays and now another thesis and the last thing I want to do it write anymore. It's not that I don't care, I do, I have plenty of opinions on a whole range of issues: china-olympics, sexualisation of young girls, racism and so much more. I just tend to talk about them verbally because it is easier rather than write about them. Food is the one thing that I'm passionate about that doesn't require much energy, so i'm not a sell out OK :-)

So instead of all the above today I give you pics of button on her monkey bars as Mr T calls them:
climbing up
and then she reaches the top she will stay like that for ages looking very proud of herself

It's been just over a month since we adopted her. Bit by bit she has settled in more and more. She now allows me to pick her up sometimes, will choose to jump on my lap and will allow me to pat even when she can see my hand coming towards her, she has also taken to licking me in an attempt to wash me I guess. The only problem is she keeps getting her claws stuck on my clothes and well everything, even her scratching pole sometimes and it takes her a little while to get unstuck. I've also discovered why the vet clinic called her button, she loves to attack buttons.

Button

Button has been settling in quite well. The first couple of days, she wouldn't allow Mr T or I to pat her and would run away from us but would give out these tiny little meaws (like half meows) and rub herself up against our legs to tell us she is hungry. She also tried to steal our tempeh wingz (from don't eat off the sidewalk) and discovered her very own monkey bars- our indoor clothes rack which is almost as tall as me and has 3 levels. This kept us awake for a few nights with her getting up and down on it and her running all over the place like crazy. I forget what kittens are like and while Button is almost full grown she is still very much like a kitten in terms of her crazy energy. She now continues to run around during the day but curls up in bed with Mr T and I and actually lets us pat her, purrs away and then falls asleep on the bed. She is still a bit funny about us patting her head when she can see my hand coming at her and gets frightened so we try to pat her from behind. She also does strange things with her food where she takes it out of her bowl and puts it on the floor and eats it off the floor, why? I have no idea, the bowl is super clean!

Anyway, check
out the fluffy tail!
