Lilith Fair: A Celebration of Women in Music
"In 1996, Sarah McLachlan became frustrated with concert promoters and radio stations that refused to feature two female musicians in a row." -- Wikepedia
Lilith Fair resulted in defining a new sound as well as becoming one of the top grossing concerts during it's short rein. And .... ? Lilith Fair 2010 is back and like it's predecessor, has evoked many of the same old controversies.
“If you look at festivals in the States, the majority of festivals are dominated by male acts. They’ll usually have one or two female acts, but it’s almost like a token gesture. Just to get that demographic in,” -- Indigo
Girls
"The very fact that the Lilith Fair still causes as much controversy/scoffing/ridicule/strong difference of opinion after all these years, is only testament to the fact that more reasonable discussions relating to the topic of equality for women in the music industry still need to take place!" -- comments
