Smart Remarks is a show I found on YouTube. Another good show is TYT. (It's easier to watch videos on my phone than on my computer with "hi-speed" cable. So I end up watching YouTube when I have a few minutes to waste.)
Score: Republicans 99 Democrats 1
All of the shouting and name calling has been over a bill expanding Medicare/Medicaid by 3%. That's not reform or much of a "public option". Yet Republican's still won't vote for it.
Isn't that the reason the public voted them out? Maybe someone can explain that to the rest of the Democrats.

Dracula and Frankenstein are given the chance to tell us their own story, from their perspective, with wonderful accents and sound effects. "Who can say madmen are wrong just because they are mad!"
And the low budget, campy B movie thriller soundtrack, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things from 1972 - is complete with music and dialogue. The soundtrack is enough to follow the story without the actual movie but then you'd miss the over acting. What this movie lacks in production, it makes up for with creativity and great one liners. If you can't find the movie locally, I found it online here (with a few other classics). "It's Orville's coming out party. He's been in the underground, you know".

The original trailer for Children Shouldn't Play with the Dead
"The name of the album, as well as Buckethead's green glow in the album artwork, are references to the famous Pepper's Ghost illusion. Magua's Scalp refers to the main villain in James Fenimore Cooper's novel, The Last of the Mohicans, the Huron Indian Magua while "The Hills Have Headcheese" is an obvious play on the horror movie series, The Hills Have Eyes." - Wikipedia
"Buckethead is one of the most bizarre and enigmatic figures in American underground and experimental music. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist is best known for his virtuosic command of the electric guitar. Buckethead is one of the instrument's most recognizable contemporary innovators for his rapid-fire riffing, near-robotic fretwork, and idiosyncratic lead lines." - AMG
Pepper's Ghost is more structured than Buckethead's previous 18 albums and it's definitely one of his best.

Along Came A Spider is a concept album telling the story of a serial killer and some songs are exceptionally creepy. Just as Stephen King has an unnatural insight into people's worst fears - so does Alice Cooper. The album hangs together best as it was produced, as a story, then every track falls into place.

I just spotted Jello Biafra's and Mojo Nixon's, Prairie Home Invasion posted on Revenant Glint blog. The blog seems to be fairly new but judging by the selections posted so far, including focusing on Halloween this month, it's going to be a good one to follow. Enjoy!
"Monster Magnet's style and material are heavily influenced by 1970s space rock bands such as Hawkwind and Captain Beyond. Their live shows occasionally feature Stacia-esque nude dancers, a fact which has landed them in trouble with the law in some American cities." -- Wikepedia
I discovered Monster Magnet through one of my favorite Halloween songs, Space Lord. At first listen, they were not my usual taste. But that's why trying new stuff really pays off. The musicianship is excellent, the lyrics are complex and full of subtle irony. Perfect, and just when I make up my mind about them, they do something unexpected. Besides, I needed the song, Dead Christmas on my playlist soon.

"The tradition of the annual halloween mashup CD began in 2004 when Legendary Boston Based producer DJBC released the first CD 'Monster Mashup'."
... and the rest is history. There have been several annual mashups since, widely posted over the internet and for good reasons; a wide variety of styles and tastes, spooky, frightening, surprising, inventive and some very funny. The dozens of trailers posted on YouTube from these mixes are worthy of their own film festival. Enjoy!
"A terrifying 1 hour continuous mashup up of Halloween Favourites, horror film quotes and spooky sounds for 2009. The ideal soundtrack for any Halloween Party!!" -- from Laptop Punk.
Pepper's Ghost is an illusory effect used by theaters, magicians and haunted houses to create morphing or ghostly images and serves as the theme behind the seven tales on Arena's 6th album by the same name. The album was inspired by elements from Marvel comics and comes with a comic book by the same artist that did the cover. This is a departure for Arena by being not quite neo progressive, nor is it fully progressive metal either, but lands somewhere in the middle with more rock beats and a surprise - a medieval folk sound. Arena is still guitar and keyboard heavy with lush lyrics that I find worth listening to. And I've been doing that a lot to Pepper's Ghost lately. Enjoy!
I think the best part of Halloween is the limitless music that seems to apply. So it's time for my annual Halloween mix. As usual, it's a wide variety of genres, non-traditional songs as well as more familiar classics - new and old. I think it flows pretty well without being predictable. Hope you enjoy it.
Sacrifices by bonfire. Moonlit rituals. All that good stuff."
If you think Halloween is all about cute little black kitties, funny pumpkins, silly costumes and Disney, then this site probably isn't for you. Although it's not a big site, Occult Rock Blog has posted well-thought out and interesting selections - which just as the name implies, focuses on the occult (satanism, rituals, witchcraft, magic). Isn't that a lot of what Halloween's about? The site includes older bands (1969), as well as current ones. Just reading some of the descriptions sent chills down my spine (black mass anyone?), i.e. a REAL scary Halloween.
The fundamental issue is "I want to live. What more elemental role does government have?"
The entire hour of Countdown is dedicated to healthcare reform, in refreshingly simple, human terms rather than political contests or just facts and figures. It's worth taking the time to watch. Go to the website for the entire show. The transcript is here.

Dan Bull's latest album, "Safe" available for free download on his My Space page, which includes the mp3, Dear Lily. More on the Lily Allen controversy here. And I couldn't resist;
"Both Masnick and Doctorow pointed out just how lame Allen’s defenses were. Whether she understood the law is beside the point. The fact that copyright law is admittedly convoluted and hard to understand just means that, as Doctorow puts it, “everyone is in a constant state of infringement.” BFD. From the standpoint of the copyright predators in the proprietary content industries, that just means a bigger herd to feed on. And as Masnick pointed out, whether she knew it or not, Allen was infringing — and the Lily Allen of five years ago was fully liable to prosecution under the laws that the Lily Allen of today so enthusiastically supports." -- C4SS
Ralph Records singles and UWEB releases are posted on Weescoosa Blog. But don't stop there. If you poke around a little bit more, you'll find a treasure of Resident-related stuff to enjoy. The site has pretty well completed my wish list, including the discovery of some higher quality flac files, videos and bootlegs.
"Your files are currently using more than 25 GB of space. Please note that on October 20th, 2009 a new method of storage management will come into effect. If an account is using more than 25 GB, all inactive files associated with that account will be deleted. Active files (i.e. files that have been downloaded at least once during the last 90 days) will of course not be deleted, regardless of the storage used."
Rapidshare has been the file hosting leader (rank 16 on Alexa) for many years and it looks like they intend to give other file hosting sites a chance now due to their limit. While I have chosen to move files to other sites, not all blogs are doing the same. Some music blogs, like Young Moss Tongue, are going to let older files expire and re-up them on request. However, other blog sites might not be so generous to re-up or take the time. After all, nobody does this for a living. That could result in a lot of files expiring ... soon!
Media Companies Take Their Case To The FCC- and what does broadband policy have to do with copyright laws or are 3 strike laws coming to the US? Not only that, but testimony from the industry (at the PUBLIC hearing) was "copyrighted" and not made available for the public (but was posted anyway). And of course, they continue to blame everyone else for their failure of refusing to take advantage of internet distribution; FaceBook, Twitter, Google, etc. Don't you feel sorry enough for them to stop all internet tech innovation yet? It's a good short article.

This blog is my little corner of the web. My intention is to explore creative, obscure, overlooked, or out-of-print non-mainstream music. Let me know what you think, have anything to add, or run into any problems with the links, Enjoy!
