much ado
This has been my cycle for the last couple days. Pack while listening to music (i'm officially in love with spotify.) Then I take various breaks with chips, salsa, black cherry soda and The Bill Cosby show (thank you netflix). Pack and listen some more then take another break with ice cream and a movie. I just watched Ball of Fire which is what that gif above is of. It's kind of a Snow White story that I thought was sweet. Pack some more. And then of course I crash sometime in the wee hours of the morning. So all in all, not bad for being on my own. Ian's had to work, so I'm by my lonesome. I almost prefer this kind of work alone though. D'ya know what I mean? I'm SO close. I'm at that odds and ends part of our belongings that I don't quite know how to pack. How does one pack bongo drums, tripods, crock pots and record players I wonder? Plus, Ian's mom keeps bringing over boxes of Ian's old belongings that he should've taken off her hands years ago. I mean, I knew he liked Star Wars and everything... but, man. love you honey, even with your R2-D2 phone. So this is it! Almost out. It hasn't quite hit me yet that we're leaving though, oddly enough. I'll let you know when that happens.
Okay... so I need to face the odds and ends now. I've been shamelessly procrastinating this section, since it's really just been a whole lot of staring and slow moving-- not knowing how to proceed. I shall conquer this. I shall! Time marches on.
goodnight.

september
Things are good.
The delicious autumn chill has made its presence here and the leaves are just beginning to comply. Somehow this season seems to only increase in my delight year to year. Can't explain it.
I had a great birthday weekend. I drove to Lexington to be with Ian-- who had blown up a bunch of balloons and came to the door wearing a winnie-the-pooh birthday hat, along with his brother's dog, Coca. Aren't birthday's the greatest for making one feel loved? (Thanks family for the dance party/birthday candles via gmail-chat. loveyou.)
Later, we walked through the apartment for the umpteenth time. I've found something new to be excited about every time I've been there. This time was the kitchen and its big windows. It'll be a first for Ian and I to have windows in our kitchen. What a thought. The window above the sink has a perfect sill for our herbs. And for cooling pies.
On a random note, I bought my first ever albums on vinyl. Ian has bought us a few through our marriage and I do own one because Ian bought me a Regina Spektor album when we were dating, even though I didn't have a record player at the time. But I have never ventured forth to buy any. It was hard to choose in the shop filled with crate after crate of old vinyls but after a giddy hour of discovery, I settled on these three:
And may I say that they are excellent? This may be my imagination, but the music feels more tangible on vinyl somehow. These records which I have loved most of my life on CD now give me a similar feeling to taking in the beauty of an original painting or sculpture. It's the art of an individual as opposed to just the music. I'm excited for future additions.
And so, on! I intend to make this week a pretty one. I've got to start making the most of my favorite season now before it slips away, as time tends to do. I've pulled out my boots and scarves. I've taken a couple walks. But now: make pumpkin chocolate-chip cookies, find a new soup recipe, go on a picnic with a thermos of hot cocoa, break out some Harry Potter books, wear knee-high socks, eat plenty of apples, delve into my imagination...
would you be so kind as to add to the list?
as much for yourselves as for me, I should think.
Taken on my birthday at James' 'partment

After dinner I tagged along with Ian to
help shoot a Latin Festival going on in downtown Lexington. (There is always something going on in this town! love it!) Ian, being the
exclusive and privileged fellow that he is, filmed from the
roof of the court house for some time lapse shots. It was a gorgeous
view of the city and of the sun getting ready to set. An appropriate birthday scene, I thought. Then we crashed
with cake, ice cream and a movie at James's-- which is the best, I'll
have you know. Good birthday.

remembering dialogue
having just woken up in the morning:
ian: {indistinctly moans} Aahhh Booo Daaaaay
sascha: you're sounding more and more like André the Giant every day.
backstory: Phil and Ian were watching The Princess Bride with four-year-old E once, way back when, and as soon as E saw André on the screen, she exclaimed "Hey! It's Uncle Inn!" Classic.

lex
so, we found a place.
and there was much rejoicing.
We are officially official in our 'moving to Lexington' plans. The apartment is great. It's a house that was built in the late 1800s early 1900s, I believe. It's since been turned into four apartments and we're crazy about it. I must admit that the real falling in love part was that it was not much more than we're paying now per month. But falling for the rest of it was not hard to do.
It occurred to me after we signed the lease, as it began to sink in a little bit that the place was ours, that I've never actually lived in a place oozing with antique charm before. I have drooled countless times over old houses like it. I've been giddy about old trim, doorknobs, wood floors, chandeliers and the like a billion times in my life. Imagined and dreamt a place of my own like it. But I've never actually lived with it.
Thus, 'crazy about it'.
Downsizing? Yes. Will have to be super creative about arrangement and storage? Yes. Does this dampen any of the excitement and adventure of it? Heavens, No.
I'm sure I'll go into greater detail about all of the exciting things about the new move and place at some point. And even though the 100 year old piano in the hallway, the original skeleton keys on the closet and backdoor, the huge bay windows, and the checkerboard marble porch are sending me into a fit of gleeful smiles-- the greatest part about this move has been the peace that has come with it. For whatever reason, this is the direction. And I'm ready for it.
so the video below has a lot in way of what's happening.
First of all, it's the new job. This is one of the videos Ian has been working on. You will also learn a little bit about Lexington, Ian's boss is in it, our new apartment manager is in it (she is part of the Fayette Alliance) and it gives you a little taste of how gorgeous this place is. The problems in Kentucky concerning the flooding, and utilization of space I have noticed here-- especially on the outer edges of Lexington and I'm excited to see that there is an alliance of people that are working to uphold the history and integrity of the city. It's been neat to learn more about these things through Ian's work.
so that's us right now. more to come, i'm sure.
