Exactly 6 days from now, I'll be back to school. 1st day jitters, you may want to call it. Pardon, It has been 6 years since the last time I entered a classroom as a student (I didn't even finish the semester due to financial problems). And this is the 6th time, by the way, that I'll be a student. (What's wih the number 6, eh?!)
Elementary- St. Bridget College (Batangas City)
High School- St. Bridget College (Batangas City)
College 1- Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas (BA Mass Communication until 3rd yr, 2nd Sem)
College 2- University of Batangas (where I finished BA Communication while doing some odd jobs)
Graduate School 1- Pontifical and Royal Catholic University of Santo Tomas (Master of Arts in Creative Writing)
It's was a roller coaster ride. I was hoping to continue my MACW in Uste. Upon checking the curriculum, tuition fee and any scholarship grant available, I was left with no option but to find another school. Luckily I was accepted there in Taft with some financial assistance to boot.
But the horror did not stop there. After learning that my subjects will be Creative Non-Fiction and Playwrighting, I tried to practice writing some stuff. Warm up, if you'd allow me to say. But the output was horrendous. I could barely recognize my style in my works; the funny, giddy tone is nowhere. Even the choice of words were a tad to dark for my own liking. I was really frightened.
Maybe I was just pressuring myself. With all that has happened the past 6 years... heartaches, very bad career choices...these may have changed my style. Or maybe I was just pressured knowing it will be a Trimester type of Academic Year (for a writing course!) So I decided take a break just in time for the elections. I have been staying in my ate's place in Lipa since early May and basically enjoying being a bum.
I knew I had to prepare for Graduate School, so I took a different approach. I started going back to what i love doing the most--movie marathon. So far, I had watched some new movies and some were faves:
1) The Lobster (Yorgos Lanthimos' 2015 dystopian movie, Cannes' Film Fest Winner)
2) The Seminarian (wrong choice. I had high expectations for this. XXX)
3) Me, Earl and the Dying Girl (Sundance 2015 Audience and Grand Jury Award...is it true it didnt earn much at the box office?!)
4) Inside Out (oh the fascination with Psychology and Behavior Science sparked once more)
5) Homerun (movie from Singapore...thank God there's a copy in Youtube!)
6) Rak Haeng Siam (The Love of Siam)
7) of course, not to be left behind is (First Love) Crazy Little Thing Called Love
8) My Own Private Idaho ( THIS. IS. WHAT. A. MOVIE. SHOULD. BE. 'nuff said)
9) The Little Prince (wow, this one really is good)
10) Gui Lai (Coming Home)
11) To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar (I soo love this one, me dreams of becoming a drag queen at least once)
12) The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner 2)
13) Hotel Transylvannia 2 and The Good Dinosaur
14) Music of the Heart (very inspiring.. cried buckets of tears)
I still got some movies to download |
Yes, they say maximize the time while you have it. I'm really not sure how busy grad school life will be in in this new school. Maybe it was just a good reason for me to bum around and do nothing. A friend even asked me how it would help me get back to the groove. I simply said, "I don't know!". But it sure made me feel really good. After 6 years of doing nothing but work (and getting my heart broken), I have come to realize I missed so much in life because of making a living.
Yesterday, I went out to get my hair trimmed and bought Carlo Vergara's Part 2 of ZsaZsa Zaturrnah sa Kalakhang Maynila. It took me a while before I was able to buy one, but it was a good buy. It lived up to it's tag.

Yes, 1st day of classes will be in 6 days. I'm not sure if really I am already ready for the part, but I sure know I am up for the challenge. Aja!
