Our NICU stay

Joshua Beck Huffaker was born at 11:25 am on December 30, 2010. Our excitement started on the night of the 29th. I was on my way to work, in a terrible snowstorm, when a car spun out of control into my car. I had to wait on the side of I-15 for 45 minutes till UHP showed up to report the accident. I started having contractions at work and decided to go home at 2:00 am. I came home, showered, and then woke Jeff up for a drive to Mckay Dee Hospital. While waiting to be monitored, I had some contractions, but wasn't progressing. They didn't like what Josh's tracing looked like, so they talked about doing the c-section. Jeff and I really wanted to wait till the new year to do the c-section, and they were trying to make it work. But, after 2 shots of Terbutaline (a medication to stop contractions) and more monitoring, they decided it would be best to deliver him. He spent 2o minutes on CPAP and oxygen, but didn't improve much. He was struggling to breath and not maintaining his oxygen saturation. They did an ECHO on his heart and found that he had pulmonary hypertenstion, a ASD, VSD, and a PDA. He was also having a hard time maintaining his blood glucose levels and had an infection. He spent two days on Nitric Oxide and high flow oxygen. He was also on some IV fluids and antibiotics. After 5 days in the NICU, he was finally discharged and sent home with us. It was not what we had planned for a term delivery, but we are so glad things ended up in well.

Baby boy Huffaker

These are some of the 4D pictures we got during our 24 week ultrasound.
It will be interesting to see if he looks at all like these pics.

First day of school

The kids ready for their first day of school.

Molly showing off her new outfit.

Kate was sad to have her siblings go to school.
She didn't quite know what was going on.

Gabe and his friend Ethan are in the same class and
got to play on the same soccor team. It was nice for him to
see a friendly face!

Trying to be like dad.

This is Gabe's favorite mode of transportation. We have definitely gotten our money's worth out of it. We are on our 3rd summer of Power Wheels fun and still going strong. Gabe drives, Molly rides in the passenger seat, and Kate rides sideways in the back. Now, they have fun going around and around the house since we don't have any grass and occasionally get in a little four-wheeling! I caught Gabers working on his car one morning and had to get some pics. Do you think he has seen his dad do this a time or two? Look at the cardboard box he is laying on! Just like dad.

The house

That last eve, now is finished. It has the crown molding up and the facia on. We are excited with how it is turning out!
