"There are three deaths. The first is when the body ceases to function. The second is when the body is consigned to the grave. The third is that moment, sometime in the future, when your name is spoken for the last time."
~~~an observation from Neuroscientist David Eagleman
the accuracy of this quote just reinforces everything that i believe in, that i try to stand for. making sure that we live our lives in a way that in one form or another, makes a difference. making sure that our legacy lives on because of the acts of love, service, parenthood, and the many other acts that make you "you". showing our legacy who we are, what we are. those morals and beliefs have been deeply embedded into our souls and that is what we'll hand down and out.
you could take this idea down a completely different path. one that could care less about making a difference, one who only thinks selfishly, one who takes the easy road, one who backs down, easily giving in when life gets just a bit too complicated and hard. those are the ones who run. they are the ones that usually experience their 3rd death not far after their 2nd.
and how sad is that. how depressing to live like that. knowing that you MADE the CHOICE to NOT MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE. to know that being selfish was ironically way more important and something you want to keep working towards. hmmmm. i'll never understand.
i'll never understand because they're missing out on so much. they're missing out on the joy that your heart receives when you ignore your own problems to lighten the load of others. and quite frankly, how boring and unadventurous is that!?
but who am i to judge? and i won't. we all have choices and the ability to make our own personal decisions. just saying that it makes me sad to know that they're NOT prolonging their 3rd death for as long as they possibly could.
on that note, i'll end on a dare. I DARE YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I DARE YOU TO SEARCH OUT SOMEONE IN NEED WHO, WITH ONE SMALL ACT, WOULD BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY DARE YOU because i KNOW that you WON'T REGRET THIS ACT. YOU'LL NEVER FORGET HOW IT MADE YOU FEEL. YOU'LL NEVER WANT TO STOP ONCE YOU START.
i promise.
and the best part of my dare? your 3rd death will be prolonged. your name, your stories, your memories will go on for as long as the amount of time that you put into it. make sense?
good.
GAME ON!
sometimes there are no words. no clever quotes to neatly sum up what's happened that day. sometimes you do everything right, everything exactly right and still you feel like you failed. did it need to end that way? could something have been done to prevent the ordeal in the first place?
like i said, sometimes there are no words. no clever quotes to neatly sum up what's happened that day. sometimes the day. just. ends.
and for that, i thank my God...
All You Can Do Is Pray For Him...
“No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good. A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is. After all, you find out the strength of the German army by fighting against it, not by giving in. You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down. A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness — they have lived a sheltered life by always giving in. We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it: and Christ, because He was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means — the only complete realist.”
