Proud Parents of a Peanut

Whew, what a morning. It all feels so official now! How much more 1st trimester does it get than watching the blinking peanut on the ultrasound screen and then barfing your guts out in the OB's office while getting blood drawn? After apologizing profusely to the poor phlebotomist who almost got sick herself listening to me wretch, David and I sat down to breakfast with the black and white print-out of our peanut and let it sink in. David was impressed at how fast the little guy's heart blinks, and how something so small has so quickly turned his wife into a burrito-craving machine. Maybe that's an overstatement, but we were probably the only people in Houston searching high and low for an open restaurant selling burrito's on Christmas Eve.

A little nausea alternating with intense cravings for Mexican food (and who can really say that's anything new for me?) is a small price for the exchange -- pregnancy's cured my headaches! If we end up with 6 kids you'll know why.

Today's my day off and will be filled with preparations for putting our home on the market. I think I'll find the DVD of the Friend's episode where Rachel can't see her peanut to play in the background while I do housework.

Happy New Year! 2008's bound to be a good one! Oh, for those wondering about a due date: August 14, 2008.

Contract, Sweet Contract

Well... it's almost our home. We're moving towards a January 10th closing date on our new home in Meyerland and the details (i.e. stacks of paperwork with signatures) are coming together. It's a 3 bed 2 bath in a great family friendly neighborhood with big trees, kids on bikes, a park down the street and a great elementary school; nearby grocery store and library, too, with our gym and good shopping 6 minutes away. It's the 'burbs without the commute and we're thrilled. We're praying for an easy sell for our current townhome. Though we hate to leave our first home together we'd love to make the move sooner rather than later, without baby and babystuff in tow.

Every Man Heart Lay Down

David was a brilliant Joseph in our church's Christmas musical, an African rendition of the Christmas story. The church has been unsuccessfully after my talented husband to join the choir but did manage to get him to sing a solo and duet for the musical.

It's a... Line!

Wow... I've often dreamed of how I'd one day tell my husband "we're pregnant!" It usually involved buying some cutesy item to wrap as a gift... most often baby books. I thought I'd just "know" in that female intuition way, take a test before he comes home from work, and be waiting at the door with a surprise when he arrived.

I didn't think he'd be the one to tell ME we're expecting. 4 years in med school and I can't diagnose a pregnancy. They never tell you how hard it is to read those silly pee sticks! So I DID take a test before he came home... thought it was positive, looked at the example pictures on the directions, decided it was definitely negative. By the time he came home I had something else entirely on my mind. Knowing I was "late" he asked if I'd taken a test (knowing there's no way I could wait long enough for him to get home!). When I confessed I had but "it was negative... I think" he convinced me to do another, then insisted that the phrase about how it's still positive if one line is lighter than the other was, in fact, in the instructions for a reason. "LOOK! On the illustration the second line is lighter, too." Well, true. I was hesitant to get excited yet. So we drove to CVS and bought another brand, repeated the whole scenario, argued over light lines versus dark lines until I was assured... Yep, we're expecting! Thirty seconds later we were headed out the door to celebrate with dessert.

Next time we do this thing, I'm sticking with the two pink lines -- they're easier.

Hong House, Day 1

News Flash: I'm a planner.
Life is happy, but it isn't exciting enough right now for anyone who doesn't talk to us regularly to actually look us up on the internet. But I figure one day we may want our little nook on the web for posting photos, etc. Today while perusing friends' blogs I decided to reserve my little spot. So if you've found us and there isn't anything else up yet, you've found my place holder.
