Summers End

Once again summer flew by, especially fast this year with having a baby and all the crazy weather we had this summer. We tried to soak in the last few rays and days of the rec center outside pool being open. We spent a lot of days there this year.

Charlie would play basketball the entire time we were there, he loved it.

He also went off the high dive for the first time, I know great picture but it's all my camera would do.

We also spent a lot of days at Lagoon. Lots of cousin fun.

This wimpy ride was Kenya's favorite, she's not scared of any rides but for some reason she loved Bulgy the whale. Charlie's favorite ride was wicked, can't go up much from that one!

We are on the ferris wheel and it was windy!

Princess Kenya

Kenya is really getting into princesses lately, like every other 3 year old. She wants to watch Snow White every morning along with asking for "cheewios, with a bowl, and a spoon, and milk!" always in her most enthusiastic voice. She sings "Some day my prince will come" all through out the day. Last night when she was pounding on her door after I put her to bed and I was helping Leila so Kenya was crying and kicking her door and then I heard in a sad crying voice "Some day my pwince will come, and the birds will sing, and the bells will wing, when my dreams come twue." I couldn't help but laugh at that sad little voice.
The other day she found this dress in Leila's closet, which it was in there hiding because I borrowed it from Cami for Halloween last year but she never wore it and it was starting to get a little tear in it so I didn't want it to get ruined, but when she saw it she said "Oh thank you mommy, I love it!" So how could I resist letting her put it on? Now she always asks to wear the blue princess dress, so sorry Cam, we will fix the tear in it, in the mean time don't you have this same dress in a bigger size? Maybe that would fit her better. :)

I guess it's time to make another trip to Disneyland, she is at the perfect age for the princesses. Oh and yesterday I asked her to come drink her smoothie and guess what she said? "Yes your majesty." I'll take that one!

They were watching Baby Einstein together, Kenya definitely more than Leila.

Grrr #2

Learning more patience...
Testing my efforts in trying to be a calmer mom.

Charlie brought the milk in this morning and was trying to fit it in the fridge, he was getting frustrated so as I was walking over to help him this is what happened.

The bright side? I didn't have to clean out the fridge to fit the milk in.

First Day

Kindergarten! I can't believe it's here. It seems like time has gone by so fast and so slow too. Charlie's been looking forward to this for so long. I was actually a little more sad about it than I thought I'd be. When we went to the Kindergarten open house it kind of hit me. We walked into the school and I could tell he was a little bit nervous. He was holding my hand walking through the halls and I realized that this isn't going to last too much longer, holding my hand, giving me hugs and kisses in front of friends. That is what made me sad! My little boy is going to be too cool for his mom, weird that I'm the mom and not the kid because it feels like I was just the kid. I got choked up when he lined up on the first day but held it together just fine, I did have a moment the next day while I was watching Good Things Utah for a few minutes and they were talking about their boys starting school, one of them read a poem about it and I started to cry. I'm still a little hormonal too. :) But over all I'm excited for this new step in our lives.

With his friend Kage

The shoes. First of all his feet are huge! These are a size 2, they're a little big but I wanted him to have room to grow. His feet have grown like 2 sizes a year, it's crazy. Charlie is very picky about what he wears so this year I took him with me to school shop so that I could make sure that he would wear what was bought. These are the shoes he really wanted and I don't think he's taken them off since. He's also starting to want to do his own hair a super slicked mohawk is his style of choice. It sometimes doesn't work too well with his cowlick in front but once again, he's a determined little boy. So yes, he did his own hair on the first day of school, sometimes it's just not worth the fight, right?

Very excited about riding the bus, Kenya was excited to see him get off!

Preschool and Grrrr...

Kenya started preschool this week at Miss Lisa's. She is pretty excited about it! I love that when she came home she told me lot's of details of what she did. When I ask Charlie about his day he tells me he can't remember! She was most excited about her Snow White lip gloss that she got. She's loving Snow White right now. She randomly sings "Some Day My Prince Will Come" through out the day, it's adorable. She pretends to make pies too like Snow White. She has quite the imagination.

She's going with her cousins Knox and Greta.

I even got her the "mini" back pack and it's still huge.

So this next picture is where the grrrr comes from. I don't know if it's her age or the new baby, probably some of both but she is getting quite the attitude sometimes. Not listening as well, more tantrums and more defiant. I'm not liking it and I'm also not liking my shortage of patience, so it's something I'm truly trying to improve on.
Almost every day I make a "green" smoothie for my kids. It's mostly fruit but it has a lot of spinach in it too which you can't really taste. It's important to me that they drink it because it's the easiest way to get a lot of fruit and veggies. Well occasionally they put up a fit about it and today when I told Kenya to come drink her smoothie while I made lunch she picked it up off the table and said "I don't like a smoothie, I want lunch!!" I calmly said "You need to drink your smoothie first." Then she says "I don't like a smoothie!!" and as she's throwing the cup full of green smoothie I'm yelling "Don't you dare!!" Too late, smoothie all over my kitchen floor, rug, and cupboards. Patience right? I put her directly in time out so I could take a few breaths instead of yelling at her. After a couple minutes I had her help me clean it up and explained to her what she did wrong and that it was unacceptable. She went back to time out and when she said sorry she came out and drank a smoothie (she wasn't getting out of that. :))
Patience is HARD. I've had to stop a couple times today and take some deep breaths to stop me from yelling. But I really want to be a calmer mom so here's to deep breaths!
The bright side? This rug really needed to be cleaned so this forced me to do it.

Smiles

Leila has started smiling. On Sunday I was able to catch some on camera. I just started talking to her in my "baby voice" and she just lit up, it was so cute.

They just get big so fast! My little newborn is already gone. I bought a bumpo chair, she can kind of sit in it which just makes her look bigger.

Love it.

5k and Snowbird Day

I've been telling Charlie for the past two summers that we'd find a kids race for him to do so when I saw that the Davis County walk/run was doing a kids race I signed him up, at least in my mind. I planned to do the 5k and he could do the kids race after I was finished. Well I procrastinated and didn't get either of us signed ahead of time. I assumed I wouldn't need to pre register him since it was free but they gave out medals for the kids race so they were required to preregister, woops! My heart sunk, I felt so bad! So I went early that morning and signed myself up for the 5k and told Charlie he could run my race with me, luckily he was happy with that.

He did really well, didn't really know how to pace himself, he would sprint and walk and then run with me. Luckily there were a lot of walkers so Charlie was pretty proud of all the people he passed! We didn't have a great finish time but even if I did it myself my time would've been really slow so I was happy to have him along. I was just so proud of him for doing it and wanting to finish! He did not give up, we ran close to our house, I told him he could run home if he wanted but he was having none of that, he wanted to cross that finish line!

And finish he did!!!
He was bummed to find out there were no medals for running the 5k, I felt so bad. I told him I'd give him one of my medals at home and luckily he was happy with that so my Bear Lake half marathon medal is now his (that is the one he requested. :))

We got home and got ready to go up to Oktoberfest at Snowbird for the day. We met some of Mark's siblings and his cousin Derek who was here from California. We played all day on all the rides they have up there. Started off on the tramps.
Kenya doing a back flip

Charlie doing a double back flip

Love how they're both in this one doing their flips.

Rock wall...

Me coming down

We took the Peruvian chair lift up to the tunnel which they created a few years back takes you through and out to the back side of the mountain. Pretty cool.

Charlie wanted to do this ropes course, I did it with him and was surprised at how nervous he was up there but we went across a few things and he was glad he did it.

We came home from that and had my niece Sailor tend Kenya and Charlie and we went out with Cami and Rich, another busy fun Saturday!
