Heath and I decided that we were old enough that we could go on family bike rides together. All of us. On bikes. I thought it was a great idea. So we loaded up the little people and headed up the mountain. Our first outing was, not so great. Tell and Trace were really really struggling to make it down this little trail around Navajo Lake. I didn't bring anything to carry water. We all had our "water bottles" but we can't really hold them and maneuver our bikes. So, naturally I carried all the water bottles down my shirt. :( The bike ride was short, we were not prepared, and it ended ok.
But we were determined to have a great ride the next time. We decided to try the same trail again but in reverse. So around Navajo Lake we went. Heath was coaching Tell on the best way to make it up the hills. Trace was pedaling along like a pro. Gideon and Kodi were way way far ahead of us having a blast. Water bottles were securely fastened onto each persons bike, which was much better for me. Through the trees one could hear Tell loudly announce that "I used the downhills to help with the ups!" We made it around one side of the lake and headed back around the other side to the truck. We were hot, but happy. Then it started to rain a bit. Oh, that was most excellent. Now we weren't hot and on we rode. Suddenly the rain became bigger, and bigger, and then it began to hail. Whoa baby, did it start hailing. Gideon, Kodi, and I huddled under a tree at the top of a hill. I turned around to see Heath pulling Trace and Tell under a tree at the bottom. I got my kids under what seemed like a bigish tree, but when hiding under it seemed more like a Charlie Brown tree. :( Heath came pedaling up to me. "I am going to ride through and go get the truck and come back for you!" "OK," I screamed cause it is really hailing now. I run down the hill and drag Trace and his bike up to me. Then back down again to get Tell and his bike. We huddled underneath that little tree. We sang, we talked about what we were grateful for, we laughed, we shivered. Daddy, the hero, arrived. We loaded all the bikes and our soggy-selves into the truck. Heath ended up biking over a mile to get back to the truck. We laughed our wet selves all the way home.
So we are thinking we should try another family bike trip...to be continued.
(no picture, cause it was wet, silly)
