Awards and a Tag Game

The ever entertaining Dennis the Visla gave me this award called The Magic Wall of Hats, for being such an Indiana Jones dawg. Isn't it cool... thanks Dennis, you're pawsome and by the way, nobody wears the fedora hat as good looking as you do.

Cleo the Grouchy Puppy also passed along to me the Sunshine Award... thanks Cleo, for illuminating our lives with your sunshine. Grouchiness is the new lovin'.

Not forgetting, I'm honored to receive this pawsome badge from the good people at Dogster.com. Do drop by Dogster.com for every pet's needs under one roof and some amazing great deals too.

On a different note, I have been tagged by Santa the Mini Schnauzer, Coco the Sassy Chihuahua and Lola the Rescued Shar Pei to play a fun game of what's in the folder. The rules of the game are:
1. Open your 1st Photo folder.
2. Scroll to the 10th photo.
3. Post the photo and the story behind it.
4. Tag 5 or more people.
Since my lovely furiends have tagged me thrice, I will open the first three folders for the 10th picture in each folder.

The 10th photo in the first folder is of me standing in the living hall looking like a true guard dog. This was taken sometime back when we just moved in to our new house.

The 10th photo in the second folder is of me taking a slumber in the room... dreaming of tree rats and juicy bones.

As for the third folder, the 10th file is not a picture but a video. It was taken during one of our trips to Cherating beach last year and I was trying to go out into the sea against the strong waves.

The rules say I have to tag 5 more of my furiends to play this game. Well, hmmmm... I tag Princess Eva, I tag Dainty Kasha, I tag Mastiff El'bow, I tag Entertaining Dennis and I also tag Relentlessly Huge Mango. Have a great weekend!

Hot Air Balloons

During the weekend, we went to the administrative city of Putrajaya for a walkie.

The early morning sky was filled with big colorful hot air balloons...

... as the International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta was held at the city.

I saw all kinds of balloons floating above buildings...

... and some were heading toward our path.

I was taking a rest on the pavement...

... when this balloon dropped by for a brief landing.

With a burst of flames from the burner, the balloon head off into the blue sky again.

Then this huge orange floated by...

... hey, I hope the sliced portion did not drop on anyone.

Later, we saw this dark object hovering above...

... slowly approaching toward us...

... for a landing...

... at the open field in front of us.

This was a scary looking hot air balloon.

Cheche said it's the evil Darth Vader from the dark side in Star Wars...

... and I said all the dude needed was a dog to show him some love.

Ouchie is a Friend

Hi there, it's hero's koko (means elder brother in chinese) here... for this post, I would like to talk a little about canine health, or rather canine health problem to be precise. As family members, it's always heartbreaking to see your loved ones having to endure suffering due to sickness or other conditions, and pet dogs are no exceptions. As with life, there are ups and there are downs, in between every exciting adventure hero had, there would be periods of anguishing moment too.

Patella luxation, I wish the name refers to some kind of yummy gourmet Spanish dish but it's not. It is a medical term for dislocation of the kneecap in canine. Every now and then, hero would have difficulty walking as he does suffer from luxating patella, a condition that is known to affect certain breed of dogs and sharpei is one of them. In patella luxation, the kneecap luxates, or pops out of place, either in a medial or lateral position. The latter is more common in large breeds. During such period, hero would be bunny hopping around with three legs. Other than this, there is no further symptoms. Luxating patella is considered hereditary but can be corrected by surgery in severe cases. In hero's case, a therapeutic massage on the leg would normally do the trick.
Normal canine knee diagram.

Dislocation of the knee cap (patella) in canine's hind leg.

However, the above condition should not be mistaken with swollen hock syndrome (also known as familial sharpei fever) which is a inherited, congenital disorder in sharpei caused by an autosomal recessive gene that results in its inability to break down and get rid of amyloidal protein, which may lead to systemic amyloidosis (kidney failure) in some cases. Symptoms include swelling of the muzzle and eyes, temperature increases and sensitivity of the hind legs to movement or touch. During the onset of such episodic fever, hero would stand with a "roached" back and will not eat or drink as a result of the pain in his muzzle area. Treatment is by prescriptive drugs such as aspirin and colchicine but there is no known cure for such a condition.

It is really frustrating when a disorder cannot be accurately diagnosed and good veterinary care is not readily available. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I can't emphasis enough the importance of responsible breeding in order to eradicate heredity conditions in animals. They may not be in a position to change their fate, but we can, and it's only right that we do.

As for hero, whether he likes it or not... ouchie is a friend.

Sunday Walkie and Brunch

It was a lazy weekend, but I woke up those sleepy heads...

... for a morning walkie around the park.

I had some agility fun on the park bench...

... and some interesting sniffpedition too.

Yes, I have the hooman right behind me on a leash.

After working up an appetite...

... it's time to have a late brunch.

Taking a rest...

... while waiting for the food.

Putting on my best behavior...

... for a share of some nom nom too.

Waiting for the hoomans to finish their brunch.

That's right, Sunday is all day happy hours...

... coz it's the day I get to spend every hour with my hoomans.

My Favourite Time of Day

What’s my favorite time of the day, you ask? Some may say it’s meal time, the whiff of warm cooked food coming from the kitchen. Some may say it’s play time, the assortment of colorful stuffies to play tug with. Some may say it’s sleeping time, the trip to dreamland chasing squirrels to our heart’s content. Some may say it’s walkie time, the excitement of reading peemails in new surrounding.

For me, I say it’s the time when you arrive home after a long day, me waiting by the door...

... for I may be just a dog in this world, but to me... you are my world. What's your fav moment, my furiends?

I Get Award and Dessert

My furiend from the land down under, Teal'c, passed along the sunshine award to me recently. Thanks pal, you're the coolest dog in Sydney. Hope your mom will be back from Germany soon.

We get to go out for late supper? Some dessert you say?

Oh boy! It's my favorite fruity dessert... the thorny durian.

If you have not tasted durian before, well the flesh of the fruit has a rich custard feel to it and the taste, creamy and sweet...

... but the fruit has a distinctive odor like rotten cream-cheese.

Anthony Bourdain, the renowned author and chef, on durian... "Its taste can only be described as...indescribable, something you will either love or despise. ...Your breath will smell as if you'd been French-kissing your dead grandmother."...

... but nonetheless, he loves to eat durian too.

Durian is also known as King of Fruits.

Can you tell from my ecstatic look...

... that I love my durian.

Yummy... finger licking goodness.

Can I have one more pleeeaseee...!
