Ten on Tuesday...the Connor Edition

1. I cannot believe that it has been nine years today since we first met you. I was so excited (and scared) to see you. Although you had a slightly harsh entrance into the world, you have definitely made quite a place for yourself here since!!

2. Your sense of humor amazes me. You have definitely gotten the Donahue humor gene, but you've put your own twist on it. You are witty beyond your years, so much so that we tend to see Uncle Ryan's charm in you, a lot.

3. I love the way you wonder. You think very hard about everything, especially the "why's" in life. You're a bit of a worrier at times, but you also seem to have big ideas and dreams. I can't wait to see where they take you!

4. You are not shy. You have no problem meeting new people or making friends. You unintentionally tend to be the kid that other kids want to be around, especially in school. With this, you always make sure everyone is included, so no one feels left out. I love this about you, it seems to come to you naturally.

5. My favorite story is when you were 3 years old and asked me what the item was hanging above your bedroom door. I told you it was a cross (crucifix) and that we hang one in everyone's room. You looked at me, tilted your head, and said, "No, it's a clock." I smiled and said, "No, I can see why you'd think that, but it's a cross." You pushed your bottom lip out and said, "No momma, it's a clock." Being a first time mom and never having had to deal with a logical arguement with a 3 year old I was determined to make you understand that it was a cross. After about 5 minutes of you and I going back and forth--"It's a cross!!"--"No, it's a clock!!!", you threw your hands in the air, shook your head, and said, "Fine Momma, let's just call it a bracelet!!!!!!" as if to say, we're obviously not going to agree so we'll call it something totally different. I don't think I EVER laughed as hard as I did that night. It was also that night that taught me to see things through your eyes, as if I'd never seen them before. I have learned SO much from you doing this....

6. I love that you find it amazing that you can wiggle your nostrils. I hate it that you torment me with it!!!! I also love the way you break into dance at any given moment, and don't care who's around--I love that you want me to dance with you still!!!

7. Even though you don't want her to know it, you love your little sister with all your heart. You are best friends and seem to be slightly lost when you're apart from each other for a long period of time. You are a great role model for her, and I've even seen you smile when talking about her to someone else.

8. I love it when I wink at you and you smile and then wink each eye back, one at a time.

9. Your imagination is great. You are always coming up with stories for us or "what if" scenarios. It is fun to watch you come up with these. I know that this is typical of nine year old boys, but they tend to make me laugh, question the possibilities, occasionally gag, or wonder about the what if's...

10. I have absolutely LOVED watching your personality grow so far and I love the person you are becoming. There is not a day that goes by that you don't make me proud to be your mom. I love you very much peanut, Happy Birthday!!!!!

Slip-n-Slide Joy

So, I'm not sure about the rest of you, but when I was a kid, I was never allowed to play on the Slip 'n Slide. There was an urban legend (actually, guess it was truth, but you never actually KNEW anyone that this happened to) that you could split you legs open on the metal stakes holding the damned slide down...so, no wet and wild slipping for me

Well, in the new age of technology today, some genius decided to make said stakes out of plastic with rounded tops so there is NO real danger...well, except if you slip off the slide and get grass-burn. Needless to say, the munchkins got a slip 'n slide this weekend and spent some time bruising their knees and getting facefuls of water...and loving every minute of it!!!

Fourth of July

We had a great holiday. We spent the day with our friends the McLaughlins and the Behrs, went home to cook a traditional grilled hot dog and potato salad dinner, and then off to the fireworks (Hannah Colleen fell asleep!!).
We love the 4th of July!!!
