Kelsey's First Birthday

I can't believe my baby is already 1. She is starting to stand on her own. She won't take any steps yet, but it will probably be very soon.

This is my first real cake with fondant. I tried covering a cake before, but never decorated it. I like how it turned out.
Kelsey was excited to have so many friends over.

 And she loved her cake,
 and frosting.

She is such an adorable girl, I can't handle it sometimes.

On a side note, I made this sleep sack for Kelsey because she always wiggles out of her blankets at night, and we are going camping this weekend.

Homemade

I've been trying to get rid of preservatives and too much sugar. I made my own Nutella with probably about 1/5 the sugar of the real stuff, and it tastes amazing! I also make whole wheat hamburger buns. I can't go back to store bought now, it tastes too fake.

Homemade Nutella
2 cups of hazelnuts
3 oz. bakers chocolate or 3 tbsp Cocoa powder and 1 tbsp Coconut oil
1 cup milk
½ cup unrefined sugar
1 tbsp of vanilla extract
a pinch of salt
1) Toast the hazelnuts: Place the hazelnuts on a baking sheet and roast in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Remove the skin. Place the hazelnuts in a tea towel and rub them until the skin turns to dust.
2) Using a food processor or blender, turn the hazelnuts into a smooth butter. It’s ok if there are some pieces left.
3) Place the chocolate, milk, sugar and vanilla in a double boiler and melt the ingredients whisking from time to time until well combined.
4) Stir in the hazelnut butter and keep whisking until the mixture is completely incorporated and it starts to thicken. Cook the cream for not more that 5 minutes and then put it in a clean and sanitized jar.

Mother's Day

I love being a mother!
