Take a leap

This is a leap-year February. Why do we need to add an extra day sometimes?

The name "leap year" probably comes from the fact that while a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar normally advances one day of the week from one year to the next, the day of the week in the 12 months following the leap day (from March 1 through February 28 of the following year) will advance two days due to the extra day (thus "leaping over" one of the days in the week

It takes Earth approximately 365.242189 days, or 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds, to circle once around the Sun. However, our Gregorian calendar has only 365 days in a year. If we didn't add a leap day on February 29 nearly every four years, we would lose almost six hours off our calendar every single year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by around 24 days.

A Girls Guide to the Outback

A Girl's Guide to the Outback

A Girls Guide to the Outback was delightfully entertaining. Jessica Kate wrote a tale of hurt, love, heartbreak and hope in the relationship between Kimberly and Sam.

At odds with each other, Kimberly Foster sets out to try to woo Sam Payton back to the Wildfire ministry that he started. Emotions run rapid with each one having insecurities that the other doesn't see. But as the walls break down, they become friends, and try to work as a team. Kimberly working  to save the Payton farm and Sam trying to overcome his dyslexia.

An enjoyable book, from beginning to end.

More Than We Remember

More Than We Remember is an amazing story. One that touches your heart. It was suspenseful and emotional. And what an unsuspected ending. I could hardly put down this page turner.

The story is about three women, Addison Kilbourn, Emilia Cruz, and Brianne Demanno, whose lives intersect in a most dramatic way. Each character was deep and thought provoking but easy to engage in the story. There were some pretty tough issues, but I loved how the author wove forgiveness into the very heart of the novel.

It was beautifully written by Christina Susann Nelson. This was my first introduction to this writer, but you can be sure I will be looking for more. Definitely a 5+ rating.

Cover up

I used to journal all the time. But in recent years, it has fallen off, mostly due to time constraints and perhaps lack of interest. My son and DIL gave me a book to use for journaling, so I thought I would make a cover.

I cheated a little bit by using pre-quilted fabric I had among my stash.

I also found a suitable coordinating fabric to use for the inside.
It was easy to turn down flaps, and sew the ends.
 Good fit!
And wha-la! The finished journal cover :-)
Using the pre-quilted fabric made this a snap..
Happy Quilting!

And the reason is....

Someone said that I hadn't shown much quilting lately. And there is a reason.

Health issues have been plaguing my hubby and me. Mine has been ongoing for the last five years. Which makes for some pretty down days. My hubby has had recurrent episodes with syncope which the doctors cannot seem to find the source.

I've never felt that my problems should be your problems, but if you have ever had issues with UTI's or IC, you will know the pain associated with it can be pretty debilitating.

So on a brighter note, I'm working on a shadow box quilt for Project Linus.

Wishing you a fair weather day and happy quilting!

Project Linus quilt making progress.

And working on a shadow box quilt.

Happy Valentine's Day

Love is missing someone whenever you're apart, but somehow feeling warm inside because you're close in heart.

What's in the works

What do you do when you have fabric left over from other projects?

Make quilts, of course!

Quilts for Project Linus. I will add some borders and finish quilting. Digging out more fun fabric to make a few more!
