Wow! I can't believe a whole week has passed since my last post! I was doing so well with my daily posts and then. . .Well, I'm not going to make excuses but I have to admit that I indulged in my other passion this past week; Reading! I love to read and belong to 2 book clubs. Thanks to one of my book club buddies, Kellet, I was introduced to the author Philippa Gregory. I read "The Other Boleyn Girl" and I was hooked on her! I just finished "The Boleyn Inheritance" and I'm waiting for "The Constant Princess" to come in at the library! This series is all historical fiction about the wives of King Henry VIII. If you haven't read any of her books, I highly recommend them! (and seeing the movie doesn't count- the book is ALWAYS better than the movie!!) So that's where I've been.
I thought I better get back at it before my MOJO suffers too much and what better way than the CAS challenge at SCS?! I combined this week's color challenge (kraft, so saffron and night of navy) with last week's CAS challenge of paper piecing and this week's CAS challenge of adding sparkle. I used a stamp from Unity's May kotm and paper pieced the petals. I added some dazzling diamonds to the flower centers for the sparkle. The decorative edge on the bottom is done with my rick rack piercabilities. If you look closely you can also see the paper piercing.
Thanks for stopping by and go check out your library- it's the best bargain in town (as my Dad always says!)

Hundred Hearts
Did you know that it is release week for Verve stamps?! The release party will be Friday June 26 at 8pm Central time! You can check out all of the details here along with some sketch challenges too! I just finished working on the monthly challenges for June so I'm not sure if I'll get to the other 5 sketches!
Here is June's sketch #3 with a twist of white space. I used a new sizzix embossing folder that I got at Archiver's last month. I also just got my SU! in-color bundle so I used a bit of melon mambo paper, ink and ribbon.
This is sketch #4 with a twist of 1 sheet of designer paper and use it as inspiration. I chose this paper by K&Co (of course) and used it to influence my colors. It also has some hearts in it so I used my Hundred Hearts stamps set. See those teeny tiny brads? I got those from Oriental Trading Co. and I just love them!
Thanks for stopping by!

A Big Froggy Grin!
Sketch challenge number 2 in the Verve forum has a twist of something new. Well, I found myself at Michael's again this weekend (surprise, surprise) and came across some awesome clearance deals! First of all, my favorite paper company, K&Co, was in the clearance section! I got 2, 4x6 paper pads for only $1.97 each! Then I wandered over to the ribbon section and some of their satin ribbon from the wedding collection was only $1 a spool (with 8-10 yards per spool)! I bought every color they had and ended up spending under $10! So here is my sketch challenge card with new paper and ribbon from Michael's and my new jumbo grommets from SU! These little froggies were just so cute but I couldn't help but add some googlie eyes to one of them!
Speaking of froggies, I was out cleaning the pool this morning and a little toad hopped right across my foot and under the pool! He scared me (okay, I let out a little yelp!) but I'm sure I scared him more! It's a scorcher here today so I'm sure he's just trying to keep cool in this heat. I can't tell my 8 year old about him though or he won't even go near the pool out of fear!
Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Dad's Day!
I finished my Father's Day cards and here is the last one! I used Julee's MOJO91 sketch and some DP from MME.
I wanted to thank everyone that comments on my blog. I do read each one and really appreciate them! Yesterday I received a comment from Kate at i {heart} papers. I discovered that she is the owner/operator of an on-line store! I browsed her selection and found a FABULOUS sale page! You should check it out! (I bought just a few things, tee hee).
Happy Father's Day and Happy first day of summer!

You
We had a wonderful, sunny day here so the kids and I went to the beach to relax! Now we are unwinding while watching a movie after our day in the sun. I finished up my husband's Father's Day gift and entry for the Verve Project Parade and thought I would post it now. I made him a little standing photo display out of 4x4 coasters. (click on the picture to get a larger image and a better view!) I covered each one with some DP from MME and used my Blossom Quickutz alphabet to spell "Dad". I tied the coasters together loosely with ribbon so they could be arranged to stand on a shelf in his office. I didn't want it to look too girly but I had to add a flower where my daughter's picture will go. The verse from Verve's "Because of You" set finishes off the display nicely! I made the mats to fit the kids' school pictures in the exchange size. I only glued down half of the letters in the word dad so I can slip their pictures behind it and then change them each year. Here are a couple of close up pictures.

Happiness
It's a triple challenge treat! For one of the Verve challenges this month we were to use 3 colors of card stock (white doesn't count), 3 types of embellishments and 3 different stamp sets! I had a great time with this challenge! For my card stock colors I chose purely pomegranate, kraft and chocolate chip. My embellishments are the wire on the butterfly, the rhinestone jewels, the ribbon and my dry embossing. My 3 different stamps sets are all by Verve. I used Because of You (the flowers in the oval), Petals and Stems (the polka dotted butterfly) and Fairy Tales (the sentiment). The patterned paper is by my beloved K & Co.
In a book I just finished reading, the main character decides to "choose happiness". Sometimes that is so hard to do, especially in our modern society! It seems like there's always something more that we want and we're not always thankful for the things that we do have. I am going to try really hard to always choose happiness (even when my children are driving me crazy on summer vacation!). This card will be a great reminder sitting on my desk.
My husband and my middle son are off to cub scout camp for the weekend. I plan on getting to know my SU! catalog really well while they are gone!
Thanks for stopping by!

Wonderful Father
I'm still working on my Father's Day cards so I'm just going to post this one quick and get back to work! I had a 50% off coupon for Michael's last week and they didn't have the punch I wanted so I had to find something else to buy (couldn't let a good coupon go to waste now could I?!) I wandered through the paper isle and came across a fabulous stack by My Mind's Eye called Playful Posies. Most of the papers are coated with glitter! The paper that the grass is stamped on is also from that pad.
On a side note- I got my new Stampin' Up! catalog yesterday! I'm dying to look at it (okay I've had a few little peeks) but I must finish these Father's Day cards. . .
Thanks for stopping by!

Going Green
Here I am frantically making my Father's Day cards (again). Why do I do this to myself? I try to create something everyday to keep my mojo going, but I wait until the very last minute to make the cards that I actually NEED. It's only Wednesday you say? Well, I have 2 cards that need to be in the mail today. One to Dallas, TX and one to Tulsa, OK. The one to Dallas I'm pretty sure will get there on time but I swear that sometimes it's a wagon train that delivers mail from Minneapolis to Tulsa! It can take nearly a week for my parents to get something I mailed to them (and they live right in the city!). I also had to make my cards USPS friendly so it won't cost me extra to mail!
This cute little beaver is actually cut out from a piece of DP from the Green Stack by DCWV. The paper is all 100% recycled and it's heavy weight and textured too! Isn't he just adorable? I stamped the tag with the sentiment from an old SU! greetings set and added that sparkly little "dot". The sketch is from Jen's sketch for you to try!
Thanks for stopping by! I'm back to work finishing up the last 4 Father's Day cards!

You're a treat!
So what's your favorite treat? I love popcorn and have a bowl almost every night before bed! My kids and husband love ice cream. Good for me, then I don't have to share my popcorn!! I loved making the Clean and Simple cards last Monday so I think I will make it a regular "treat" for you! This week's challenge was a sketch based on this card. I went with kraft card stock again and my June kit of the month from Unity. I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the sayings for the background. I stamped the ice cream cone 3 times and popped up the scoops. I also covered the ice cream in crystal effects and the cherry with red stickles!
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day!

Feeling Fruity
One of my favorite things about summer are all of the fresh fruits that are available. I love melons and berries especially. The strawberries from Costco are enormous and sooo delicious! I just picked up a 4 lb basket of them for dinner and they even SMELL yummy! Anyways, yesterday as I was (attempting) to organize my papers in my craft room, I came across an older summer stack by DCWV. I paged through it and this bright, fruity paper jumped out at me. I used the MOJO sketch for the week and my June kit of the month from Unity that arrived yesterday to make this summery card. I stamped the cherries twice, cut one out, covered them in pink stickles and popped them up. I water colored my cherries with my markers and ink pads. I really like the look of water coloring but then I see all of those beautiful creations with Copic markers and wonder if I'm missing out. . .
Off to hull my strawberries (and maybe sneak a few before dinner)! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend!

We're Friends
I am so thankful for my friends! Including those I only through my blog and SCS! So, this card is for all of you. I used the limited supplies challenge for today to make this card. It was a follow the recipe kind of challenge. First, use only blues, greens, grays (water) and sand (neutrals). Second, include ribbon, hemp twine or fibers; brads and piercing. I think I got it all covered! I used my new Very Versatile set and stamped it in baja breeze. The sentiment is from the hostess set Best Yet. I also used Jen's sketch for you to try.
Thanks for stopping by!

Last day of school
It's finally here, the last day of school for the year! The kids have been counting down since the beginning of May. I did get my teacher gifts finished in time and I'm pleased with how they turned out. I gave each teacher a gift card to Target and then when I was at Michael's, I found these cute little note cards in a farm theme in the clearance bin! Our teachers are always writing little notes of encouragement, or congratulations or something to the kids in their classrooms so I thought they would come in handy! I also found some colored gifts bags that everything fit in perfectly. I decided to make my card and use it as a bag topper for the gift bags. The sentiment says "To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world. " I love that and it is so fitting for the teachers that my boys had this year!
Thanks for stopping by!

Off to a PARTY!
My baby turns 6 today! I know every mother says they can't believe how fast the time goes but it is sooo true! I remember last summer getting him all psyched up to go to kindergarten and here he is on his last day today celebrating with all of his little classmates! We, of course, have 3 soccer games tonight so it's a quick dinner and gift opening and then we're off. A few years ago we were totting him around in his car seat to soccer and now he's wearing a uniform! I always let my kids pick what they want for dinner on their birthdays and Markie picked spaghetti so that's quick and easy! Well, enough about my reminiscing, you came to see a card right?!
When I saw the MFT challenge this week, to use 3 different patterned paper lines on a card, I thought how fun it would be to use it on Markie's birthday card. I dug through my enormous stack of paper and found 3 that coordinated and were bright and sparkly for a 6 year-old. The red polka dots are from the Citronella line by K&Co, the stripes are from a pad by Me and My Big Ideas and the brown sparkly polka dots are from the Animal Crackers stack by DCWV. I stamped my image on watercolor paper and used my water color pencils to color them in. I added some glitter to their party hats and collars to make them festive. A button with hemp twine and some brads completed my party look.
Thanks for stopping by (and did you see THIS?)

Clean and Simple
I'm a fan of clean and simple cards and now SCS has a clean and simple challenge on Mondays! This week it is to use the colors pink and kraft and another color of your choice. I chose black as an added accent! I stamped my sentiment in black and used my colored pencils to color it in. I added some glitter and 2 tiny rhinestones. I was very tempted to do something with the background but then it really wouldn't be very "clean" would it? I added the messy ribbon pleating on the bottom and called it good!
Since I had my kraft card stock out, I just kept going! I saw this card yesterday that I fell in love with and set out to give it my own spin! I punched some stars out of this colorful polka dot paper, mounted them up on dimensionals, stamped a sentiment, paper pierced and distressed and that's it!
Tomorrow is my Kindergartner's last day of school so I have to go work on a card and gift for his teacher (nothing like waiting until the last minute, eh?!) Thanks for stopping by!

Play
I was at Archiver's last week and found this cute collection called Giggle Kids by Making Memories (and I bought the whole collection of course). I also found out that it is exclusive to Archiver's! I took it out to create with today and my Unity pinwheel seemed like the perfect stamp to accompany these bright colors! I heat embossed each part of the pinwheel on different colors of card stock and then pieced it all back together. The center of the pinwheel is a matching Giggle Kids brad. The sentiment is just so fitting! I think you do have to "play" in order to keep in practice (and to be happy). Last week my daughter's soccer team had a parents vs girls game and boy did they have fun! The girls and the parents couldn't stop talking about it afterwards! We are even planning to do it again, this time with a BBQ afterwards!
Thanks for stopping by!

Serenity
I had some free time after my son's soccer game this afternoon so I decided to work with Julee's Mojo89 sketch. I found a scrap of DP and just matched up my card stock colors and went to work! The piercing around the edge is done with an Ornare piercing template that I bought from Our Daily Bread. You can click on the image to enlarge it for a closer look.
Now I'm not complaining but, holy moly did we freeze on the soccer field yesterday and today! We really needed the rain but does it have to be 50 degrees and windy too? So not only were we wet, we were practically frost bit from the wind! I see that it even snowed in North Dakota yesterday! What month is it?!
I'm off to watch a movie with the family, have a good night. Thanks for stopping by!

It's Raining, It's Pouring!
Hooray it's raining! What a better way to spend a rainy day than stamping?! I tackled 3 challenges with this card. I used this weeks color challenge from SCS of riding hood red, kiwi kiss, tangeringe tango and a neutral (Chocolate chip). The Res-Q challenge this week is to use flowers and bugs on a card. I did that by using my Kindred Spirits branch and a catepillar (I also added a ghost flower to my bow because I wasn't sure if the branch with buds counted as flowers!) Finally, the ways to use it challenge from Thursday was to make a creative image. See my cute little catepillar? He is made out of circles from a paper punch! I stamped my branch in tangerine tango and then rock and rolled it in riding hood red. I cut it out and then popped it up on dimensionals. I love this set and I'm sad to see that it is on the last chance list from Stampin' Up!

Live Simply
The book I am reading at the moment is about a woman who works at a homeless shelter for women and the stories and people she encounters. It really makes me thankful for the roof over my head and the food on my table! Even though we try to "live simply" , we still have so much "stuff"! I used a few scraps on this card to make do with what I had instead of looking for something new. I used a 1" circle punch to make the scallops around the main image.
Thanks for stopping by and good news- it's supposed to rain tomorrow!!

Doing a Rain Dance
Here in my neck of the woods, we are considered in a "severe drought". We haven't seen rain in a long time and all of our lawns are showing it! I decided I needed to give mother nature a little hint and I dug out a Unity stamp set that I've had for awhile now but have never used. Rain and Flowers seems appropriate for a rain dance don't you think? I also used this week's sketch challenge. I stamped my rain boots in lavender lace and added some stickles to the rain drops and puddle. I used my white satin ribbon from Michael's again (love this stuff) and tied another good looking bow! (woo hoo 2 in a row!) I received quite a few comments on my bow from yesterday and , seriously, it's all luck with me! I have no idea how to tie a good looking bow. I just keep trying and trying until I get it looking the way I want! This bow only took me 3 trys! I decided to decorate the inside too like my stamping idols Denise and Amy do. Since I've spent so much time on this card it just HAS to rain!!
Thanks for stopping by!

Orange is my color
The Unity kotm challenge this month was to make a monochromatic card and I chose my favorite summer color ORANGE! Orange is such a bright and cheery color, I can't help but smile when I see it. I used Jen's sketch for you to try this week to help get me started. I also found 3 different patterned papers, from 2 different companies, that all shared the same orange color! I heat embossed my dragonfly from Unity's May kotm and popped him up on dimensionals. The rest is pretty straight forward.
Why do I consider orange my color? Every year my husband and I take our 4 kids to the MN State Fair for an entire day. Our state fair is HUGE (I think it is second only to TX) and all of us dress in bright orange t-shirts so we can find each other easily (and so the little ones don't get lost!) The kids just know to wear orange on fair day. All of us have dark hair so orange is a color that looks good on us (especially with a tan!!) When I see orange I think of the state fair and that can only mean summer! I'm so excited for our summer to begin. Only 7 more "school/work" days left.
Thanks for stopping by!

Friendship
When I first discovered SCS almost 2 years ago, I was only aware of 2 stamp companies (besides the wood mounted ones I would see at Michael's and Jo-Ann ETC.) Stampin' Up! and Close to my Heart. I was a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and on the look out for new and fun ideas. Fortunately (or unfortunately for my pocket book) I discovered MANY other stamp companies while browsing the gallery of SCS! I, of course, had to "sample" some of those companies and soon became a fan of Verve, MFT, Unity and a few others! Today I brought out one of my MFT sets to play with. Along with being introduced to different stamp companies, SCS also made me a challenge chaser. I love a good challenge and it always helps me get my creativity going. This card is for the MFT challenge to use chipboard. I just used a tiny chipboard heart that I covered in pink stickles, but it fits the challenge!

On Safari
Rox71 is this week's featured stamper. Rox hosts the sketch challenges each week that I love but I've never been to her gallery to just browse! It is fabulous! I chose this card to CASE. I loved her color combo of the rusty red and more mustard but instead of black as an accent, I used chocolate chip. I changed the theme of her card from flowers to jungle but kept the layout the same. I made my SU! little leaves die into jungle leaves by cutting little notches in the edges! What fun!
Thanks for stopping by and be sure and check out the Limelight Papercrafts blog. It's their first anniversary and they are celebrating with prizes!
