Disconnected

For almost two weeks, I got disconnected from internet. Yeah, I did. The Internet in my office was down for about 10 days, leaving us, web designers and programmers, confused and didn't have a lot to do. My resolution to post at least once in 1 week got distracted too.

I don't really have a lot to say in this post, besides that I'm officially disconnected (wow, I used the word a lot, lol) from Manchester United matches in EPL (and probably FA Cup too) this season because EPL isn't on free TV anymore. And it is quite expensive to install Aora TV (the one with the exclusive rights to air EPL), 1,7 million rupiahs in 1 year might seem a bargain deal (only about Rp 150.000 a month), but considering it has to be paid up front, it's a lot of money, and I can't afford that, even for me to watch my favorite player play his two last seasons of football. Sorry, Paul... But I will always follow the result and news and highlights and anything other than the live matches, so I won't be really out of date about EPL and MU especially.

I uploaded quite a few songs in my 4shared account, which you can find here. Feel free to download those songs, just give me a feedback if you like them. As I said, I might post other songs.

David Archuleta's New Single - Crush

David Archuleta has just released his first single after becoming runner-up in American Idol 7, titled Crush.

It's a pop song with a little bit R&B and Soul elements, and I think it is surprisingly very good. At first, I thought Crush would be a mere bubblegum pop, because I thought the recording studio would make David sing commercial materials of his age (he is just 18), but how wrong I was.
The song is really catchy while not sounding bubblegum. You should give it a listen.

Below is the lyric and the download link.

I hung up the phone tonight,
something happened for the first time, deep inside
It was a rush, what a rush
Cause the possibility that you would ever
Feel the same way about me
It's just too much, just too much
Why do I keep running from the truth
All I ever think about is you
You got me hypnotized, so mesmerized, and I just got to know

Do you ever think, when you're all alone
All that we could be, Where this thing could go
Am I crazy or falling in love
Is it real or just another crush
Do you catch a breath, when I look at you
Are you holding back, like the way I do
Cause I'm trying, trying to walk away
But I know this crush ain't goin away, goin away

Has it ever crossed your mind when we were hanging
Spending time girl, are we just friends
Is there more, is there more
See it's a chance we've gotta take
Cause I believe we can make this into
Something that will last, last forever, forever

Do you ever think, when you're all alone
All that we could be, Where this thing could go
Am I crazy or falling in love
Is it real or just another crush
Do you catch a breath, when I look at you
Are you holding back, like the way I do
Cause I'm trying, trying to walk away
But I know this crush ain't goin away, goin away

Why do I keep running from the truth
All I ever think about is you
You got me hypnotized, so mesmerized
And I just got to know

Do you ever think, when you're all alone
All that we could be, Where this thing could go
Am I crazy or falling in love
Is it realor just another crush
Do you catch a breath, when I look at you
Are you holding back, like the way I do
Cause I'm trying, trying to walk away
But I know this crush ain't goin away, goin away

Finally...PSP

Tried as I might, I could not hold the urge of having a PSP any longer. Last Sunday, I bought a ceramic white PSP, complete with 4GB of memory card containing massive games (picked by myself) like Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core, Disgaea, Brave Story, Dragon Ball Z Another Road, Tales of the World Radiant Mythology, and some puzzle games.

I never thought the graphics of PSP games would be this good, some games like Crisis Core can even match the graphics of PS2. Combined with great RPGs (my favorite genre), my PSP immediately becomes the one I play every night, leaving my NDS a little bit deserted. I still love NDS, but since for now there are no great games in it (I'm not really crazy for Final Fantasy IV, though it's a good game), PSP must be prioritized for now. At least until September when Dragon Quest IV and Disgaea (yeah, I wonder which version will come out on top) will be coming up for NDS.

Enough about games, my thesis presentation is due next week. I'm getting more and more nervous with every passing day. One of my friends has passed (he got C), so I'm happy for him and a little bit boosted by the fact he's passed. I'll just keep my thoughts positive all the time, I'm sure it'll be fine.

The music I've been hearing lately is Ryan Tedder unreleased songs. They are really good, although most of them were written about 5 to 6 years ago. Still, I do get a little bored after listening to it about 20 times or so, although a few tracks do not bore me at all. I'm looking forward to albums from two David's from American Idol 7, Kelly Clarkson, and Mcfly deluxe album, all due for this year.

What's Going Down on August

July's gone, August's come. So much has passed, yet so much more to come.

First of all, my birthday's coming up on August 4th. Not much to expect, birthday's never really special for me. I'm gonna turn 20 this year, and I hope my twenties is gonna be a hell lot of fun. Though sometimes I feel that I could've and should've been or done what I want to, I'm still very much happy with how my life turns out. Hopefully in the next period of my life, I can be a better man than I am.

Second, my (or I should say, our) green table (??? is that a word? lol... it means, our thesis presentation) is coming up, my friends' on 6th, 7th, and 11th, while mine is on 15th. I'm a little bit worried about it, because I've never been good at talking in front of people. I just hope I don't look really nervous in front of the testers, since it will reduce my score, :)

Third, English Premier League will start again on 16th August. I still don't know whether Indonesia TV stations will broadcast the matches or not, though I really hope one of them will, it doesn't matter live or recorded, it's better than nothing. This season, I would like Manchester United to win the title again, since it could very well be one of the two last years that Paul Scholes will play before he retires. I still don't know what to do when he does, I may not even support Man United anymore (just kidding, but it's a possibility...who knows?)

Lastly, I really really want to buy a PSP in the near future. It could be this month, next month, or the month after the next. I'm really looking forward to playing all the RPGs in PSP, since my Nintendo DS doesn't really have a lot of quality RPGs. Though I'm still not sure how to manage my time to play both NDS and PSP. I think that's one of my big concerns when I consider to buy a PSP since both consoles have really good games in the up and coming 6 months.

Mcfly 4th Album - Radio:Active

Given away for free with copies of The Mail on Sunday on July 20, 2008, Radio:Active is the fourth studio album, the first released under their new, self created label, Super Records, for the British band, with a deluxe edition of the album available in shops in September 22, 2008, that will include four extra songs, a bonus DVD and a 32-page booklet.

Track List:
1. "Do Ya" - 2:53 (Written By T.Fletcher, D.Poynter, J.Bourne)
2. "Falling In Love" - 4:26 (Written By D.Jones, T.Fletcher, J.Perry)
3. "Everybody Knows" - 3:15 (Written By T.Fletcher, D.Poynter, J.Bourne)
4. "Smile" - 3:18 (Written By D.Jones, T.Fletcher, J.Perry)
5. "One for the Radio" - 3:06 (Written By T.Fletcher)
6. "POV" - 3:53 (Written By T.Fletcher)
7. "Corrupted" - 3:39 (Written By T.Fletcher, L.Christy, G.Edwards, S.Spock)
8. "The Heart Never Lies" - 3:26 (Written By T.Fletcher)
9. "Going Through The Motions" - 3:25 (Written By T.Fletcher, D.Jones, D.Poynter)
10. "The Last Song" - 4:51 (Written By T.Fletcher, D.Jones, D.Poynter)

My Review:
The first time I heard that Mcfly decided to seperate from Island Records and release their new material under their own label, I was kind of worried because going indie sometimes is very challenging for artists, the latest victim is Ryan Cabrera, whose new album fails to make any impact despite the quite good quality.

However, after listening to their first single, One For The Radio, I am quite confident that the decision of going indie will not kill this band. And it is proven by the fact that the single went to debut on No. 2 in UK chart, a very good achievement I should say for an independent release.

After listening to the whole album, I have to say that although the sound is heavier, it still sounds similiar to their previous albums, which is good and bad. Good because you really don't want to listen to Mcfly doing R&B or Hip Hop, for example. Bad because though some tracks stand out, Motion in The Ocean and Wonderland still comes out on top compared to Radio:Active.

The tracklist is also quite similar to previous albums. The first track, Do Ya, is a catchy track with a simple and repetitive lyric that slightly reminds me of Star Girl. Falling In Love is one of my favorites, a laid back track that sounds quite new compared to what they've been doing, though the pre-chorus somehow reminds me of one of their songs in previous albums, I don't remember the title...now I remember, The Way You Make Me Feel from Mcfly The Greatest Hits. Compare the line in Falling In Love "Out of our minds and out of time" with the bridge after the second chorus in The Way You Make Me Feel, "Look at us now...". Very similar, if not identical. Not that I mind...

Everybody Knows feels like Sorry's Not Good Enough, Smile reminds me of Please, Please (with the repeated words of Smile, Smile, Smile), though the lyric is very constructive and easy to relate to.

One For The Radio and POV are my favorite tracks. I thought POV would be a hard track, but it turns out to be the Bubble Wrap or She Falls Asleep type, although the chorus is rockier than those two.

I expect a new version of The Heart Never Lies, but it turns out to be the original version. And The Last Song is a VERY VERY good song. Starts out slow, but suddenly builds up to uptempo rock track, reminds me of Don't Stop Me Now, but better! Although I'm quite worried with the lyric below:

If this is the last song I ever sing
Then I’m giving it everything
I’m giving it all
If this is the last song I ever play
Then I guess its time to take my curtain call

Does this mean that they are prepared for the worst if this album doesn't work? Hopefully the album doesn't flop because this is actually a good album, although not their best.

Final Score: 3.5/5
Outstanding Tracks: Falling In Love, One For The Radio, POV, The Last Song

Wanna Test Your Sense of Humour?

Tom was saying a prayer before he went to bed, "Please God, make London the capital of United States. Make London the capital of United States..."

His mother watched him, then anxiously asked, "Why do you want London to be the capital of United States?"

"Because," Tom said, "That's what I answered in my Geography exam!"

A not-too-bright candidate for the police force failed in the written
exam. Since he was the Chief's nephew, the examiner decided to go
easy on him with the oral test.

"Who shot Abraham Lincoln?", asked the examiner.

The candidate thought for a moment and then asked if he could have
sometime to come up with the answer. The examiner told him to come back
the next morning.

When he went home, his wife asked, "Well, how did it go? Did you get the job?"

"I think so," he replied. "They have already got me working on a case".

Judge: "The last time I saw you, I told you that I didn't want to see you here
again."
Accused: "That is what I tried to tell these policemen, your Honour, but they
would not believe me."

A large notice in a shop window announced a big sale starting at 9 AM. An enormous queue had started to form by 7.30 AM.

Just before the shop was due to open, an inconspicuous little man walked to
the head of the queue. Angry women elbowed and pushed him until he was
at the back of the line. Undaunted, the little man went to the head of the
queue again.

Once more, he was shoved rudely to the back, this time with a few smacks on the face and a couple of thumps from umbrellas wielded by angry women.

The little man walked to one side of the queue and said: "If that's your
attitude, I won't open the shop at all today!"

Chemistry Teacher: "Can you tell me the formula for water?"
Student: "H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O."
Chemistry Teacher: "Where did you get an idea like that?"
Student: "You told us the other day it was H to O." (Water = H2O, sounds like H to O)

***

Teacher: "Jim, can you tell me which month is the shortest?"
Jim: "It's May, miss."
Teacher: "No, it isn't. The shortest month is February."
Jim: "No, miss, February has eight letters in it while May only has three!"
