two oh one one

Time for another generic post ushering in 2011!

To be honest, I haven't been updating as much as I thought I would since making the switch to blogspot. But it's been on my conscience to update the past few days, and what better time to start now that it's the new year!

There was no other way 2011 could've started better - we played mahjong till 6 in the morning... sober. Who knew not getting drunk on new year's would be this much fun?!

I kid. (no not really)

But seriously though, new year's eve was probably one of the better ones I've had so far - none of that sweaty, crowded nonsense. Instead we (notice how it's plural and not singular! I have friends now, where they actually acknowledge me in public!!!!) opted for a barbecue, about 15 of us, where we ate to our heart's content, playing poker, taboo, and yes, mahjong. Tuned in to the (obviously delayed) Sydney broadcast as they counted down, celebrated, drank a few shots, and continued playing our games. LOL.

So here's to the new year, and new resolutions that would no doubt NOT be met.

Because I have an undeserving face.

Have a good one guys!

insensitive.

As many of you know, I lead a fairly boring life which no doubt can be traced back to my lack of having a social life here. So because of that, I've learned to make do with the little things in life that many of us take for granted back home.

So here's my newest fascination - my microbiology lecturer.

And as I write this I know I will be accused of being insensitive and I apologize but really, if you were in my lectures you'd laugh too.

If we talk fairly frequently you'd know that I had problems choosing which electives to do because (as mum always tells me) I don't know what I want in life and would probably end up no where in life if I didn't decide, pronto. And because of that, the past 2 weeks of classes have been hectic - I've been attending every lecture for every subject that sounds relatively interesting, in hopes that it would somehow help me make up my mind.

But I did it. In the end, I decided to go with BIOL 2330, Microbiology, because I figured it was the best option.

So here's where my lecturer (course coordinator) comes in.

The first thing I noticed about him when I entered the lecture room was his beard. The best way to describe him would be the muggle version of Albus Dumbledore. The white beard, the long hair, and the slight air of eccentricity he carries with him.

The second thing I noticed about him... was that he said err A LOT.

And here's where I can't determine whether he has Tourette's or of it's just habitual. Because you know, if he had Tourette's and you laughed you'd be labelled a jerk but if it was just a habit then by all means go ahead.

So every few seconds he goes errrr and goes into a mini convulsion before resuming and like a five year old kid trapped in a 20 year old's body, I laugh. I know I am terrible. I laugh when people trip, I laugh when people say words like penis, and I laugh when my lecturer starts convulsing.

In all fairness he doesn't convulse THAT much, which makes me think that it isn't Tourette's, but who in the world says err that much in one sentence??

I guess it doesn't help that the topic is quite boring. Nowadays I find myself counting the number of times he says err in one lecture. Sometimes when I'm really bored I count the number of times he says err and convulses. I also count the probabilities of him doing a double whammy of err-ing and convulsing, or err-ing without convulsing.

Damn it. Should've chosen a math elective instead.
