The Birthing of Gabriel

Step by step birthing process of Gabriel by Mummy Emi

Step 1: Choose the animal you want as your best furry friend.

Step 2: Search through the box for the nicest skin and face. Watch if it has evil eyes. Try not to take those.

everyone has their faves.

my choice for Gabriel.

Step 3: Choose a sound or voice to be planted inside your furry friend. There are a choice of songs, messages or your own recorded greetings. All sounded a bit plastic.

sound machine, many sounds were not available though.

i chose a beating, vibrating heart. so you just press the centre and it will "thump thump" 5 times. battery operated. may have to go back for change soon seeing that i keep pressing it.

Step 4: Go to the cotton (or is it wool?) machine to pump up your furry friend. To be done by professionals.

cotton rolling and rolling.

scary looking metal tube about to be inserted into furry friend.

all you have to do is just step on the pedal and watch with amazement how the flat skin inflates to your furry friend.

all plumped up and a bit warm.

Step 5: you pick up a cloth heart (satin or checked), hold it in your hands, close your eyes and make a wish. kiss to seal the wish.

Step 6: the said heart is inserted into the bear. the heart thumping gadget was also inserted and adjusted to the actual heart position. A barcode tag was inserted last so that if your furry friend gets lost, they can trace it back to you from their database. The professional tightens the stitches and knots the strings up.

Step 7: Go to the brushing corner, step on the pedal, brush and blow your furry friend's coat.

Step 8: naked furry friend completed.

Step 9: no sane mother will not shower the babe with clothes and all things pretty. clothes, shoes, accessories galore.

bottoms have a hole in the, erm, bottom for the tail. how thoughtful.

first tryout: the tuxedo. a bit tight. next!

how many hands needed to dress a bear? 8 hands. lucky furry friend.

the owners of the 8 hands and their masterpiece. boy kimono looks good.

just so happens that there is a box of undies there, so the aunties were itching to put one on the furry friend. looks tight. do not think rubbish thoughts bout my furry friend!

i couldnt resist putting on a cutesy fairy dress with wings. note: the aunties have changed the undies to a girly satin one.

The officer uniform had the wrong country stitched on it. and it was not very huggable.

another girly costume, very hogwarts. but too many layers.

Step 10: Dress the furry friend in selected outfit.

Mum emi has to brave it alone...

while her friends had enough fun stripping and touching the furry friend.

Step 11: Give the furry friend a name and key in owner's particulars.

The name chosen is 'Gabriel See'.

Step 12: Raise up right hand and take "The bear promise".

My bear is special. i brought it to life. i chose it. i stuffed it. now i am taking it home. best friends are furever. so i promise right now. to make my bear my no. 1 pal.

okay, i teared. could be the hormones. but can you imagine how you'd feel when you take the wedding oath. thank goodness for waterproof mascara.

the mum and 4 aunties with Gabriel.

Step 13: Bundle Gabriel in his Bear Condo and off we go!!!

The arrival of Gabriel

My dearest Gabriel,

Mummy emi says hi to you. This coming sunday is when i choose your furry skin, pump in cotton to a huggable density, make a wish upon a cloth heart which will be inserted into you, sew you up with my bare hands and brush ur coat til it is all neat and tidy.

i have chosen your attire. Though you are a gabriel, the wedding dress costume looks very very very pretty! mummy is tempted. but fearing that you may wallop me in the middle of the night when i am asleep and vulnerable, i have decided to dress you up in a samurai or navy officer uniform. hope u fancy that.

well, see u soon.

The return of the Irish (not Jedi)

A not so long time ago, in a prominent part of Singapore, a young man set on exploring the distant island of Dublin set forth on an epic journey. He made a bunch of Malaysian friends, toured around bits of Europe, was extremely bored in Dublin, missed his roti prata and dim sum immensely, and was tortured by his boss....

After much consideration, I have decided to call it a day and return to Singapore for good. Having had enough of boring Dublin, subtle discrimination (at least perceived by me and my friends) and of course, my lalak (the Malay word for ‘fly’) i.e. the Pakistani lord and master of mine that I was on the verge of unleashing a nuclear warhead on, I handed in my letter of resignation about 2 weeks ago. My last day with the firm is scheduled to be on the 3rd of October (2008 of course!)

Sorting out the logistical matters will be quite a headache. I am currently looking for a replacement tenant for my room. The economic downturn had resulted in a poor response to an ad I posted on a popular housing rental website. After reducing the rent ( I have to top up the difference to my housemates), the number of responses have been increasing, but I have yet to find a tenant. Hopefully, with the upcoming viewings over the week, I would have been able to secure a good tenant. As my housemates are a wonderful couple (who thankfully cooks good Chinese food), I would certainly do my best to secure a good replacement for them. Following this, I would have to start packing my stuff for shipping, sort out tax matters, get deposits back from various people, remit money home, and get wacked by my friends during farewells.

I had initially scheduled my flight to be on the 21st of October but will likely shift it forward as prospective tenants have generally indicated they prefer to shift in earlier.

The most important point is :

I’m coming back!
