Today I did my first triathlon. It started at 7:00 a.m. My girfriends and I left at 4:45 a.m. to get there. I went to bed at 10:00 p.m. last night but I could not fall asleep...I didn't fall asleep until 3:30 a.m. and I had to get up at 4:15 a.m. Do the math. My mind was racing and I was nervous, excited, anxious...you name it. I woke up with a headache and pit in my stomach but once I started the race, I was fine. I was worried that I wouldn't have enough energy on such little sleep, but adrenaline is an amazing thing! It was a 1/2 mile swim (in a lake), 12 mile bike, and 5K (3.1 miles) run. My goal was to finish, not to worry about times, but I wanted to finish in under 2 hours...I finished in 1 hour 54 minutes. It was such a neat experience...I think I'm hooked! :) Here's a bunch of pictures but first a little disclaimer...**the tri-suits are NOT flattering** You have been warned! :)
The kids and I before the race... Dave got everyone up at 5:30 a.m., made them french toast, got them ready, and came to support me!
Getting ready to swim...there were over 2,000 women competing. We were divided by age group and each heat consisted of 100 women. My heat left at 7:30 a.m."Cone head"
I just finished the swim...
Time to bike...
Crossing the Finish Line...The kids ran with me across the finish line. The run was the most challenging part for me as I am not a strong runner and don't like to run!
WOO-HOO...We did it!!!!!
My friend Laurie did it last year too and has been such a great support for me. I couldn't have done it without you girl! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

They wrote your race number all over your body and your age was written on your calf. My numbers smeared when I put on sun screen.
Packed up and ready to head home...

Afterwards, we went to lunch with Laurie's family at Red Robin then came home and slept!
