10 weeks

11lbs 9 oz.  and 22 inches long.    Maddy got her 2 month check up shots.  She did not like them at all.   Carlos had to hold her down while the nurse poked her.  I had my head turned the whole time.  It is the loudest I have ever heard her cry.  Real tears.   She was a little fussy in the night. But she was a real champ.

Happy Valentine's Day

2 Months Old

Little Maddy Mud Pants slept through an entire night.  Don't get your hopes up because it only happened twice.  But at least now she only wakes up once in the night to eat.   We are slowly getting to a full nights rest.  We took her to a BYUH basketball game and she stayed up observing everything.  She loved it and most importantly it wore her right out.  I woke up at 6 am thinking I was crazy and the clocks were wrong.  She is so stinkin happy when she wakes up in the morning.  She smiles and plays for about 2 hours every morning.

Grandma and Grandpa Price went home this week.  Maddy is so lucky to have been able to see them everyday for the 1st 2 months of her life.  They are going to have a really hard time leaving her and going back to cold snowy Idaho.

Maddy's Blessing

Maddy blessing 2/2/14 by Carlos Mozo

"I bless you with a name that you should be known by as Maddy Kahana Faye Mozo.  You have been blessed with a family and though that family you shall receive blessings.   With the cultures and your surroundings of the land, you shall receive many more blessings and opportunities to learn and to pray and to be strong.   By staying strong in the church, studying your scriptures, serving the Lord, you shall develop talents to be a strong woman, to be a strong mother and strong leader.  "

SO how did we come up with Maddy's name?    We almost named her Lily  but she just didn't look like a Lily.  It just didn't feel right.  Everyday before she was born we would ask each other what name we liked the best.  It did change daily.  But by the last few days, it was more consistently Maddy.  Her middle names were chosen from the beginning.  As soon as we knew she was a girl, she was getting the middle name of Faye.   It is mine, my mom's, and my grandma Dotson's middle name.  It's a family thing.

We also wanted to have Kahana in there too because it is such a magical place.   It is a hawaiian ahupuha'a. The hawaiians divided the land up so every group had all the resources they needed.  If you look at a map of the island with all the ahupuha'as it would look like a pie chart.  Everyone had what they needed and could live in harmony with the land.   It has the mountains, the valley, and a big beautiful bay.   It is rare for the bay to break but when it does, it is the best surf.  It is mine and Carlos's favorite spot.   When it breaks, everyone that comes is so happy and nice to each other. It's like a party in the water.  There's is just a loving happy spirit about the place.  There is a river that is so peaceful to paddle board up.   It is one of my favorite things to do.    There is a valley that has many beautiful hikes with bamboo forests and waterfalls.  We just admire everything the place stands for: Harmony, Love, Kindness, Happiness.  These are some of the qualities that we want Maddy to have as she grows up.

This is the same dress that I was blessed in when I was a baby.  My Mom's aunt made it for me in her garment shop.  My aunt Gerry made the dress for Maddy.  It was so beautiful on her.  She is so lucky to have so many people love her.  I am really grateful for my family and their support.

7 weeks old

Big accomplishments happened this week.  Maddy started to sleep without being wrapped up like a burrito on Monday night.   Before if she got her arms out of her burrito, it was over, she would swing them around and wake herself up.   She also is going to sleep on her own.   I'll put her in her crib next to my bed while she is awake and she will stare and play by herself and put herself to sleep.
I really think I might have the best baby in the world.  I don't even think she cried once today.  She has a little squawk that she does that is so cute.   Her cry is so cute that it is hard to take her serious.  She has grown out her newborn clothes.  She is growing really fast.   I want time to stand still so I can stare at her more and more.  This week she started to sleep longer during the night.  She now sleeps 4 hours and once she slept 5 hours. This was after her bath.  She really enjoys taking a bath.  It relaxes her.    It felt so good for me to sleep that long too .
It was BIG wave Wednesday.  The waves on the north shore reached 50 feet.  We drove up and watched it all day.  We took a hike to Kahuku point to see a baby pup monk seal.   Monk seals are just like human babies.  They nurse every 2-3 hours.  But at 5-7 weeks they throw their pups into the ocean to practice swimming.

Maddy trying to roll over

Maddy stuck her feet in the ocean for the first time at Turtle Bay.

6 weeks old

This was a pretty eventful week for little Maddy.   Maddy went to church for the first time.
Her hair is getting thinner.  I was able to get into the ocean this week.  I have a great love for the ocean.  I really missed it.   We took Maddy to the beach by our house and she slept like a champ.   She loves the sound of the ocean.    She is still waking up every 2-3 hours to eat in the night.   She is on a schedule of eating during the day.  7am, 9:30am, 12pm, 2:30pm, 5pm.  Her favorite spot in the house is her changing table.
We went to Kakela's and watched Carlos take some wave pictures.

We spent Friday, Sat. and Monday at Castles.  There was no wind on the east side and it was beautiful.

She met Uncle Josh Mojica

5 weeks old

Maddy had another weigh in this week.   She is now a whopping 9 lbs 2 oz.  She is one healthy eating girl.   She is getting a lot more control of her head.   Grandma figured out that she loves having her hands rubbed.  She loves to get a massage but she really loves having her hands rubbed, it calms her down instantly.

We took a field trip to Kahana valley to the Lo'i farm. It was quite the off roading experience.  They are trying to get Kahana to be a full working Ahupua'a.  Kahana is such a special place, there are may reasons we named her after this place.  Mostly because the surfing is magical when it breaks.

Grandma will watch Maddy at night while I get some sleep. She has been a great help.

4 weeks old. Happy New Years!!.

The fireworks get pretty crazy in Hauula,  Maddy slept right through them all.  Accomplishments this week: rolling from her stomach to her back.

She keeps making this "ooooo" with her lips.   We love it.

Grandma likes to tell her stories.  She just stares at Faye and listens.  She loves it.  They both love it.

Aunty Megan Hemming made Maddy this cute baby blanket.

Morning snuggles

3 weeks old- Maddy's First Christmas

Maddy likes to wake up at 6:30 am.  She is still eating every 2-3 hours.  She likes to lay flat on her back and stare at the fan.   She really enjoys her tummy time.   She stares at reflections in the window or right past people's faces.   We keep saying that she is staring at angels.  Maybe she is talking to Uncle Jon, Lolo or Grandma Dotson.  I like to think she was with them before she came here to us.
