The Agony of Defeat

For months, our house has been divided into "Team Mommy" or "Team Micah" in anticipation of the Memorial Day 5k.  I started training early to try to increase my pace enough to keep up with our little speedster.  Unfortunately, I developed a heel injury and had to mostly stop training.  I'd like to pretend that my injury is the reason he beat me so soundly, but the truth is that even if I had been healthy, there's no way I could have run his 23:55!!!  (That's a pace of 7:42 min/mile!!)  Dang, this kid is fast!!

here is a video of Micah's finish

I was content with my time of 26:36.  And, I'll admit, I did get a little bit of satisfaction from the fact that Micah was sore all week, while I recovered quickly.  The poor kid was too tired the next day to go to soccer practice; he laid around the house all day playing games, coloring, and reading.  :)

Matthew's goal was to run the mile without stopping, which he accomplished.  (He slowed to a walk at the halfway point to take a sip of water, but other than that his little legs kept moving.) His time was around 11 minutes.

Hannah's hard work in soccer recently paid off for her.  When I saw her at the turn-around, she didn't even look tired.  She finished in 10th place with a time just over 9 minutes.

Ally had a great race, too.  She kept up with Micah for a while and ended up finishing 2nd in her age group.

After our hard work, we enjoyed a pancake breakfast with the Hays, spent time swimming with the Hays and McKims, and ate dinner with the Oysters.  What a great day!
