Little Boy Heaven

Today, Micah, Hannah, and I spent the day with Thomas the Train.  Normally, this is the type of thing that I would skip because I'm too cheap thrifty to spend the money on it.  However, our friends received tickets from a pool at work, and they had two extra!  Micah was intensely excited, and it was actually a really fun event.

Here's Micah shivering next to Thomas.  It was much cooler at the station than at our house.  I happened to have a sweater in the van for Hannah; Micah was not so lucky.

Besides the actual ride on the train (which was kind of anticlimactic), there were plenty of activities for the kids to do.  There were inflatables...

...at least half a dozen train tables...

...model trains..
...tattoos, coloring, videos, a magic show, music, and more!  If I were going to do it again, I would plan to stay all day.  We were there for over three hours, but Micah would have been happy to stay for three more.  I was really proud of how cooperative Micah was.  He was well-behaved, even with his excitement.  And when it was time to go he was disappointed, but obedient.  Hannah was also a super-trooper.  It was not her choice to be confined to car seat, stroller, and carrier all morning, but she did not make a fuss - even without her morning nap!  It was a great day and a fun start to our Memorial Day weekend.  :)

Today's Outfits

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is one of my all-time favorite books (I even have an autographed copy from when I was little), which is why I kept this adorable little outfit that a friend handed down to me, even though I knew it was the wrong size.  I stuffed Hannah into it for some pictures today.  She didn't seem to mind.

Micah rarely cares what he is going to wear on any given day.  He usually prefers that I just pick something for him.  Today, however, he wanted to choose what he wore to the store.  My only stipulation was that he had to wear underwear.  Maybe next time I'll give a few more guidelines.

"People of Walmart", here he comes!

Shearing the Sheep

We decided it was time to give Micah his summer haircut.  It's bittersweet for me.  I think he looks adorable with his hair longer, but I know he's going to be much more comfortable with it short.  Long, thick hair and a sweaty little boy just is not a good combination.  Fortunately, Scott is a whiz with the clippers and was able to give him a handsome new look.

Hannah at 8 months and Micah at 8 months: yeah, they're related.

Baby Dedication

This past weekend both sets of grandparents came out for Hannah's dedication at church. (The baby dedication is just a time for the parents to publicly declare that they are committed to raising their child in a Christ-centered home.)  Uncle Jack, Aunt Julie, and Caroline had also been looking for a time to come visit us this spring.  So we figured: why not make it a party?
Here's Hannah, all dressed up for church.

Aunt Julie decided to take pity on my weed flower beds and help them out.

Even Caroline is a better gardener than I am.

Impossible!

Two unbelievable things happened in the past week.  We had consecutive days with sunshine....

....and Micah ate a HOT DOG!!!

Weekend Catch-up

For Mother's Day this year, I requested paint.  The computer room (where I'm currently sitting) was still stark white and had the curtains that the previous owner had left.  Although Scott couldn't understand why I would want to do work on Mother's Day, he agreed.  Now the room is brown! It doesn't have curtains yet, but we'll get there.
Saturday night we decided to have a family movie night.  We ordered Chinese food and ate on the couch while we watched Toy Story 2.  Micah loved the special treat, and Scott and I loved resting. :)

On Sunday, Scott took care of the kids as much as possible to try to give me a break.  It was lovely.

Yesterday was mostly spent grocery shopping and trying to get the house back into order. We did manage to sneak in quick trip to the park with the Hays, though.  Today Nana and Aunt Helen were here for a visit.  Micah, Hannah, and I were all thrilled to see them and have company/playmates.

Geniuses

Micah and Carter got to play outside for a while today before it started raining.  When Meghan was helping them clean up, she noticed that they had been writing with chalk.  They wrote their names!

What do you mean, "Where?"?  Isn't it obvious?

This one says "CARTER"

and this one says "Micah".
Clearly, they are brilliant.

Hannah is also especially clever.  While every other child has had difficulty saying Micah's name (Minah, Mucmah, Macah, etc.), Hannah has mastered it at 8 months! [I'm mostly kidding, but she does say something that sounds a lot like "Micah", and she tends to say it when she sees him!  He's at the top of the stairs in this video.]

First Tooth

Hannah's first tooth has finally broken through!  I tried to warn Colton, but he still had to find out for himself. :)
