Time Out

Sorry for not updating my blog in such a looong time. It's really not my fault. Maybe it is...

The time finally came for me to have a semester break.. I wanted so badly to do the things i missed while i was stuck in uni. I wanted to meet my frens, watch my fave telly, surf the internet, download songs, watch goong on youtube, etc, etc, etc... and wat happens?? My good ol' modem HAS TO breakdown in the 2nd week of my hols! (Whee~ -.-'' )

WHY? Oh why..does misfortune follow me everywhere i go? I came home to enjoy life! But i guess.. tht's as fun as it gets. My PC's monitor was abit "sot". The wiring for the red colour display has defunct. So.. when i used my PC (to go online - cos for some reason, i can't use my lappy to connect to the internet at home! aargh!!) everything's bluey in colour. Had to watch Goong with red-less colours! Sad.. Then, my fave tv channel decided that during my hols is the BEST time to televise all the programmes that i've watched before!! So exciting. Why can't they wait till i come back to show those great movies? Or, why can't they bring forward the xmas specials??? Aargh...

Ok, so the first week was still tolerable. Then came the 2nd week. No internet, which means cannot watch Goong, cannot download songs, cannot chat, cannot everything! Was totally disconnected from the outside world it seems. Furthermore, channel 5 is still showing neverending lousy shows (how can it be interesting when there's no LOST, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, GREY'S ANATOMY?.. thank God there's still CSI hehe).

Luckily, my break was not totally ruined. I got to meet my long-lost FRIENDS!!! Finally met up with Grumpy! MingEng! Rojak! Sabrina! SinYee! Allison! YuHooi! ChaiLyn! Hweeli! Shirlyn! Rosanne! ChiaSin! and SzeeMun! So happy i managed to meet up with all of them that were back in JB or S'pore. Just seeing them, chatting and doing nonsense toghether is enough to relax and forget all about Pg. It's not that my frens in Pg are bad.. but the feeling is just different. I've barely known my Pg frens for half a year... This group of frens on the other hand have been with me for at least more than a year.. some even since Std 2. That's like...12years!! Gosh.. Sadly, i met all my close frens except for dear Norven! Sighs... i've missed the opportunity to meet with her twice already!! So sad... I wanted to meet her so badly, to hear all her stories.. n see her new look. hehe =) But most of all, just to hang out with her! Next time i'm back.. Norven, you better be free!

But the best thing going back for the hols is... being with my FAMILY!!! Spending late nights watching movies (and wasting precious beauty sleep) with my sis Margie was extremely fun! Haha.. poor Margie had to change sleeping patterns all because of me. hehehe... =P Ooh... and shopping with her was fun fun fun!!! Having another person's company and opinion when shopping is a great. I'm barely even a month away from home but i'm already missing you all at home! Maybe it's bcos i just spent X'mas away from home this year. Hope to go home real soon. Sheesh... can't enjoy lunar new year goodies this year... U guys better save some for me! haha.. as if it's possible.

Shall not think about home for now... Got to concentrate!

PS: Special thanks to Jelina and BoonSin for accompanying me throughout the X'mas hols and all those who sms-ed me. You guys cheered me up! Thanks a lot!! =)

Haphazard

This is just another random blog... Nothing inspiring to talk about lately. All the zest is gone after being away from the internet for too long.

During my finals, internet was a big no no. The seduction of internet is totally irresistible. I could never withstand the temptation to chat a bit here n there, check my never-ending emails, read interesting funny blogs, or just browse thru Frenster to see who has added new pics for me to talk about. Just doing those things would steal hours from my study time! So.. had to lock my lappy in my cupboard. I intended to lock it in till my finals was over.. but it was easier said than done. Due to lousy m'sian radio stations playing and repeating lousy music n crappy ads all day.. finally, i had to succumb to the urge to bring out my lappy. Listening to my mp3 is so much more better! Studying was easier again with the accompaniment of great music. Nevertheless, time was wasted whenever i tinkered with the computer... especially when i play a little game or three =P. Maybe i shd seriously consider getting myself an mp3! haha.. then i wouldn't need to turn on my comp just to listen to music.

When i was stuck in my hostel the entire exam period, there were lots of inspirations for my blog. But now tht i get online.. all the inspirations then, seem stupid now. I think i was trying to make a list of things i hate about my uni! haha... here goes nothing...

  1. The food here sucks! It's so bad, you would rather stay in the room and eat instant noodles than walk to the stinking cafe just to see the same sickening expensive stuff they call food (especially the vegetables at that stall in B Cafe). Seriously, instant noodles tastes 100x better than it.
  2. Stupid school is sooo Kiasu! They keep robbing our holidays! Others get 1 week of study break + 1 week DeepaRaya hols. While we only get 1 week study break + DeepaRaya torture. Our sem break is already the shortest compared to other unis in the country but to be Kiasu #1.. they have to shorten it further to just mere 26 days! Wats more, there isn't any x'mas or new year hols!! Kiasu not enough, we MUST have the mid-sem test on the 3rd lunar day nex cny... see how lovely my uni is? So thoughtful of them to make us study during the cny. I'm lovin it!
  3. Wireless-less. How to climb up the uni ranks when the utmost important thing - internet connection is still unavailable to some hostels in the campus? So wat if u've got some weak wireless hotspot? It's ridiculous if u can't go online in the safety n comfort of ur own room! Expect us to walk late at night (cos there's practically no place for u at all in the daytime) to access the internet in a place full of blood-sucking mosquitoes and where electric sockets are always lacking (only 8 - including the ones u have to unplug from the drinks n water vending machines!). I really pity those who are using desktops here. How to go online??

Okay.. so far that's all i think that's really stupid about my school, not taking into account the lousy shuttle service, webpage, library etc etc etc... Maybe i'm asking too much. Maybe this is already counted as excellent to others. But as my mum always say... "If u want to improve, always compare urself to the best!"

Gah, China buggers!

Today, I was [yet again] annoyed at China buggers.

It was after MAII paper [which was friggin' tough!], me and my Malay friends were getting on the bus. I'm telling you, the 21x buses probably reach their maximum number of passengers during the two exam periods.

Anywhos, so as usual, people pushing to get onto the bus. China freaks cut the line, went ahead of me, but me being zen and calm, I ignored it.

Then, the ticket machine 'ate' Akhmar's bus ticket. So naturally the rest of us couldn't move on to the back. There were about 6 of my Malay friends in front of me. So since the machine 'ate' her ticket, obviously the rest of us couldn't do anything.

The driver sorted it out in the end.

But, before that, people lining up behind me who were still trying to get on were making a big fuss. Kept asking us to move back. Like duh, I would if I could.

So there was this China girl behind me. She could so clearly see that the machine was jammed. She, speaking in her mainland Chinese coated English, was saying "Can you all please move to the back? Can you all please move to the back?" Like, Oh my Guan Yin, a gazillion times can.

I mean, for Guan Yin's sake, we are not from China can. In other words, we are civilised. Although the state of the public toilets in both countries sure could put up a good fight, but in some ways we're better. Definitely.

Ok so this moron kept going and she was behind me therefore kinda pushing me [and my patience]. So I turned to her, gave her a glare, and said "Can you please fucking wait?! Can't you see the machine is jammed?!"

Yar. Kns, not only her, the peeps behind her all were looking at me. Cause I was standing on the bus steps, the rest were waiting to get on. FUCKING RETARDS!!!

So finally everything resolved, didn't take long, turned out we could just insert our tickets anyway even though the machine 'ate' Akhmar's ticket. But I guess I was just looking for a chance to lash out at China freaks.

While I was walking down the bus aisle [which was packed with China freaks] I complained to Sheila and made sure I mentioned "China Buggers" loud and clear. *as if I'm not Chinese*

Grr. But I feel good. *whee*

Moral of the story? Don't bottle up your anger...LET IT OUT!!! *lol*

Already MAII paper stressed me out, that China girl was really looking for it, man. Bad day for her! Aww...too bad.

Itching to Blog

I have this sudden, uncontrolable need to blog. Maybe it's my way of putting off studying for CFM, but heck it. I shall do as I please.

I painted my nails blood red because I was bored and I wanted to sniff in more toxic fumes. My windows are shut, the heater is on. Could my room get any more toxic than this?

I have decided to shut down my personal blog. Mainly because some people have this inability to respect my decision and my privacy. I requested not to be linked, but they still do it anyways. So stuff it, I tried to be nice and no one appreciated nor respected me. No more personal blog for now. And no more being nice forever. ROAR.

My brain is officially dead right now. Information overload? Probably.

Surprisingly I'm not really looking forward to going home. Public transportation is superb here, weather is nice [although summer is coming]. Back home it'll be a hassle getting from one place to another since public transport is non-existent.

I think I've put off revision for too long now. I just need to constantly remind myself it's only 2 weeks of hard work and then it's 3 months of intense bumming. Trade 2 weeks for 3 months, I'm pretty sure I could manage that.

p/s: Would like to thank the anonymous tagger who tried [but failed] to revive my tagboard.

Dreams are my reality

This might sound like a cliché but it's true! It happened to me just a few days ago.

I was having the sweetest dream after staying up late till 3am before I slept (even though I was going to have a tutorial at freaking 9am that day!). I forgot what the dream was about but I recall vividly that I was in some sort of school and I was late for some class. The interesting thing about dreams is u can do whatever u wish to in it, whatever at all, even if it's a very far cry from your true self. So, there I was somehow a lot more bolder in my dreams, taking my own sweeeet time to class although I knew I was late for class… Till I met Boon Sin (my floor mate) who told me in a very calm way. "Joyce, you are late."
Note the missing exclamation marks. It really sounded so saintly k?

Immediately, sensing something weird about this dream, I jumped out of my bed in a flash. Tried to focus my still sleepy-blurry-without spectacles eyes on my huge alarm clock and to the horror of horrors… The hands of my clock read 8.50am!!!! Bloody hell…

Like Superman, I slipped into my clothes in a split second n rushed to the toilet to wash my face (shd be brushing teeth n all but to heck with it. I'm already late!) The toilet is actually just outside my room but seemed so far then. I opened the door and, lo and behold rite in front of me is Boon Sin brushing her teeth in the toilet!

I was still disturbed by tht weird dream n even before I can digest it, my dream is sort of happening in front of my eyes again! Weird. Went to wash my face and dreamily told Boon Sin "You appeared in my dream just now." As I turned around to run back to my room, I managed to see her with a very puzzled look. Thinking back, i think i sounded like a madwoman. Hehehe…

In the end, I managed to dash to my lecture hall on time after all. Pheww…

Dreams are my reality,
a wonderous world where I like to be...
[Reality by Richard Sanderson]

On the topic of dreams,

Picasso's 'Le Reve' ('The Dream')

Picasso's famed "Dream" painting turned into a nightmare for Las Vegas casino magnate Steve Wynn when he accidentally gave the multimillion dollar canvas an elbow. He poked a finger-sized hole in the artwork while showing it to friends at his Las Vegas office a couple of weeks ago after finalizing a $139 million sale to another collector of his painting

'Oh s---,' he said. 'Look what I've done. Thank goodness it was me.'"

Apparently, he has retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that damages peripheral vision and is rolling in money! Wynn had decided to release the buyer from the sale agreement and to repair and keep the painting himself. Read more.
Sigh... Some ppl just don't run out of money Sheesh.

Unplanned

Hmm.. for the first time i am randomly typing balderdash... Haha...
It's so random, i'm goin to blabber nonsense.

Well, it's in the early hours of monday morning and i'm beginning suffer from a serious bout of Monday Blues. I can just feel today's gonna be a very 'interesting' day. Let's see...

I have to cram as many info as possible into my itsy bitsy tiny pea up in my head, tht i call brain. I have to study for my German test and Mandarin Exam tmr. How is that possible? Don't know and i don't think i've the time to know. Kinda regretting my choice to take an extra mandarin lessons. Why did i even think of taking it in the first place? Every chinese character i learn in 2 hrs will definitely be forgotten the next day. I think i'm destined to be a banana for the rest of my life. Wonder wat my ancestors are thinkin? keke... Maybe they are crying rite now tht's why it's been raining like crazy all week. Morning drizzling, afternoon heavy rain, evening rainin cats n dogs, at night rain bulls n elephants! Hmm... come to think of it, the only good thing from all this rain is a very good sleep at nite! hahaha...

Wat else? I have to continue discussing about a german dialogue later. I've come to realise that thinking is easy but when it comes to forming a german sentence it's a total disaster. 2 hours just can create a half page dialogue. Tsk tsk... Terrible... Hmm... and all this agony is because of the fantabulous ppl in charge in my school. They are forwarding my tests 2 weeks earlier! Damn.. i seriously suspect tht they r doin this bcos they wanna go for celebration holidays earlier. Hmmph. I love my country!

Oki.. can't waste time anymore... gotta go have some beauty sleep now.

Random News

Here's the proof that there is no reason at all to be friends with Chinese nationals. All they want is money, not friendship.

Malaysia is still in denial about the safety issues in the country. According to the article, World Cup is the reason for the dip in tourists arrival. Hrm.

In the Blink of an Eye

People typically blink about 15 times per minute. If you are awake for 16 hours each day, then you blink approximately 14,400 each day! Omg... my dommsday is just 691,200 blinks away!!! That's Nov 1 2006 btw.

Finals schedule is finally out. Do i count my unlucky stars or my never ending bad fortune... my exam schedule is packed like sardines! 6 papers in total. Every week 2 papers.. but every week both papers are just < 24 hours apart! aarrghhh!!!! I can feel the caterpillars growing inside my tummy. How long does it take for a caterpillar to evolve into a butterfly? Gosh... time not enough!

If anyone has any great tips on how to cover 6 different subjects ranging from history to german in the fastest way possible (i only have 1.5 mths) pleeaase do let me know. Or maybe if u noe how to get rid of procrastination once and for all that will be even better!!! heehee.... =P

Talking about sardines...
If you think public buses in JB or KL are bad... u haven taken the public bus in PG. I tell u... the buses here won't move unless it's packed like sardines! Idiots... N the passengers here really come from ALL walks of life. U can see the very old, very young, malaysians, foreign workers, crazy ppl, sick ppl and guys that flick their really curly long hair (imagine Cher's).... eeewww!

I thought with penang as a tourist haven (god knows why), the gov would do sumthing about the transport system here. But noooo... they think it's better to keep their bus just the way it was in the 70's. The bus driver still collects the fares himself. They are so pro in it that they actually count money while driving. We are all basically breathing in CO2 n the BO of ppl around us in the bus n the driver still has the mood to count money n drive like a snail just to torture us further. Ish...

Penang's soooo fun! Wee~

That's it. Gotta eat lunch to calm me down. =D

it's been a while since i blogged, or should i say complained about the world. :)

so, after almost half a century - ie since independence - Malaysia has finally decided to do something about the state of public toilets in the country. read all about it here.

in my opinion, i think that it is a waste of taxpayers' money when they launch campaigns like these. if the people are retards, there is no point in campaigning when it is obvious the message will not get through to those people! campaign after campaign have been launched, but there are no results!

that is the problem with the country. there is no maintenance. they get all hyped up about a project, and 5 years later you will see everything go down the drain. and then! the government will spend billions to repair the infrastructure and crap.

take a look at Jalan Wong Ah Fook. they spent so much to "beautify" the street, with gaudy looking shit all over, and do you see anyone locals there? hell no. the place is the place for foreign workers. the banglas, indons, etc congregate there. and from there, they would target for potential victims.

another thing, cabbies in Malaysia do not go by meter. Proof? here you go. and from that article, it seems that they're not ashamed about it. dishonest? yep yep yep! and they're trying to draw tourists to the country, how?

and JB is going crazy as well, increased snatch thefts which, i think is due to the increase in foreign workers and illegal immigrants. hello, police force? tidur kah? i guess the police is very slow to react, but that's better than doing nothing. at least they're finally doing something. read about it here. sigh. i guess the paranoia and sleepless nights will come flooding back to me when i return to JB.

with all these dirtyness, dishonesty, and insecurities, they want to attract tourists to the country how?

Home Sweet Home

Aaah....
After sitting for about 9hrs on a super express bus, it's really feels comfortable and great to be able to walk about on land. haha.. Thank god for businessmen who always come up with better ideas, i don have to sit on the bus for another 2 more extra hours now. Can u imagine poor people back then??

So i got off the bus at 6.40am at a very dark entrance of our town's very own lousy bus terminal. Is it really that much to pay for the electric charges of 5 more street lights? Why on earth can't the people in charge think of the passengers safety? What's more with the increasing snatch theft cases in JB are they really wishing to lose business with thefts happening rite there at their entrance??? Thank god for my bro n sis who came to pick me up or else who knows wat could happen to me?! When i called my bro to tell him my location, he said "Where? Where r u? I can't see u. No... no one's there wat?" Duh... w/o any lights what can u see? Summore i've gotten sooo dark in tht hot island. Chances of u seeing me is almost nil. -.- haha... Anyway, so happy to see their faces!

Home at last!
The feeling is truly refreshing after a long time away from home. First thing i did after unpacking was to look around my messy home. Yup. It looks just like it was before i left 2 months ago. Guess this house just can't do w/o me. hahaha... 8 DAYS!!!! Tonnes of the BEST mag on earth strewn all over the table waiting for me to read it! Hahaha... And then came the next important routine. Switched on the TV. Everwood was on! Omg.. Amy is getting prettier each time, while Ephram's hair is getting 'moppy'. Not tht good looking anymore. hehe... Gosh.. so many shows to watch but i've only got a week! Ooh.. tmr there's The Emmy's - a show worth watching for the eye-candies! =P And my super great dad made homemade popcorn! Ssswweeet! And for dinner... spaghetti! This is very rare as he only cooks spaghetti during big occassions like Christmas or when there's relatives visiting. Can't wait... i'm drooling rite now. Got to stop...

Happiness

I'll be goin home in 2 days!!! Lalala..... H-A-P-P-Y
So many things to do, but so little time!

Things to do when i get home
  1. Stuff myself with nice glorious heavenly food
  2. Watch TV like there's no tomorrow
  3. Listen to the radio all day all night
  4. Shop, shop n shop till i (maybe my mum) drop
  5. Transfer all my mp3 to my laptop
  6. Visit frens oversea(straits)
  7. Learn to appreciate the washing machine
  8. Stock up on nice glorious heavenly food =P
  9. Study for mid-sem test
  10. Complete assignments

Why must the lecturers torture us by giving us assignments during a sem break? It's already so hard for us to go home.. n they won't even let us off for ONE week??!! Ish.... I'm not goin to spoil this happy mood by thinkin about it now... Holiday holiday holiday... "Let me go hoooooommmme...."

Speaking of my lecturers. Because my class is soo small (there's only 60 odd people) my super duper fantastic lecturer actually remembers each and everyone's name in just 2 mths! She actually point at us and named us without reading any list k? Damn. Can't even try to slack in class. Wats more... these lecturers are born to make life hard for us... If u were given a choice to answer 3 out of 4 questions.. how many would you answer? Any smart student would say 4 rite? WRONG! Answering 4 in my course is not smart move. My wonderful lecturer says.. instead of selecting the 3 best marks, she'll pick the 3 worse marks!!! Wat de??!! So u see.. the chinese saying was rite, "Cong ming fan bei cong ming wu" which means sumthing like.. Don be a smart ass!

Ok.. goin to start paking my bags. Wee~

fireflies

okay. miss sleepyhead just told me something i would consider quite shocking - she's never seen a firefly before.

seriously, the myth that city kids are more exposed to the world is so...wrong. in her 20 years on this Earth, poor sleepyhead has never seen/caught/had any contact with fireflies. but come to think of it, you won't be able to find fireflies in the bright city lights huh.

anyhoos, i didn't grow up in the kampung, but i'm more kampung-fied in the sense that i've seen fireflies before! in fact, i've caught them before hokays.

so back in the days when i was a fat, short and innocent (still am all these) lil' girl, my family and I would visit my aunt in Kluang which is like, 2 hours' drive from JB? i'm not sure. so we visited quite often, sometimes during Christmas as she's Christian and she would invite us for the parties which i would say was incredibly BORING because they were all adults and strangers.

one particular Christmas when everyone was asleep upstairs my sister, my cousin and I went to this lil' park opposite their house to catch fireflies. it was awesome! we caught so many! it was fun! and best of all, the adults didn't know what was going cos they were sleeping mwahahaha.

we caught them, put them in jars, and brought them into the house. we closed all windows and doors, turned off all lights except the twinkling Christmas lights on the tree, and...we released the fireflies.

it was AMAZING. it was my first time catching fireflies and i loved the feeling of the firefly in my hands. so we just watched them zoom around in the dark. sigh...those happy days lol. anyways after we finally got bored of it all we opened the windows and doors and let them all fly back to the park. hehe see we're kind souls haha.

that was the first and my last time i saw fireflies. and i would love to see it again; to catch it and feel it in my hands, to see them zooming around in a dark room, and just relive those wonderful childhood days. :)

my first entry!

yay new bloggie! lol...thanks sleepyhead for doing the template and all, i've been really busy and well, grumpy lately *hee hee* must be the pms. sorry for not helping :(

anywhos, i've been reading TheStar Online and wtf, KL is such a retarded place right now. 2 students were attacked by snatch thieves, one died. what the hell is going on, man! and these thieves. how much money do you think students carry with them?! it's not like they were going for dinner at some posh hotel or restaurant. *dang* but what the hell, if they were smart they wouldn't be thieves right.

and now the Government has spent millions on CCTV which is supposed to help fight crimes. read all about it here. seriously, if you don't have efficient police staff to handle these cases, what is the whole point of using all these technology?! *grumbles*

bah, i really am grumpy. lol. shall go have some green tea to calm me down *grins*

thanks again sleepyhead for setting up the blog!

Time To Come

I don't know if anyone has read this adage, but I find it spell binding. It goes like this…

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
And a child that's born on the Sabbath day
Is fair, wise, good and gay.
[mid 19th century Proverbs]

Okay, how cool is that? It’s actually in the collection of Proverbs! (according to The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations) How on earth do these ancient people predict what happens to a child born on which particular day? How long did they researched n how reliable is it? I mean most Proverbs are true aren't they? Look at...

Dreams go by contraries. -early 15th century
(So true!)

Fortune favours fools. -mid 16th century
(Hmm...I'm stupid.)

Better be an old man's darling than a young man's slave. -mid 16th century
(Didn't know women back then were already so scheming! =P)

I came across this birthday proverb while I was flipping thru my baby photo album long ago. It was rite there on the front page so I couldn't have missed it. I have been intrigued by it ever since. Very curious to find out what Destiny has in store for me, a Thursday's child. What does 'far' mean? How far is 'far'? Would I get the chance to travel around the world? Or does it mean tht I would accomplish great things? Hmm… I wonder…

Another interesting thing is Chinese have a believe that the way a person holds the chopsticks, can determine where s/he will live after s/he gets married. The higher up u hold your chopsticks, the farther u will move away from your hometown. So, if u hold ur chopsticks way low, u'll might just end up getting married to ur neighbour. Lol. I hold my chopsticks quite high so, is this another indication?? LOL...

There is too much coincidence to be ignored. Hence, I'm now living in a dream tht one day I would be jet setting around the world. Doing great things. Leading a very fulfilled life. Hehe… Hopefully it'll come true! ^o^

A blog of tales as told by Grumpy and Sleepy.
Well, it is not entirely grandmother stories... It's more like an outlet for us to crap. lol.

I'm Sleepy and my collaborator is Grumpy. Maybe from our names you are already guessing our blog isn't going to be that interesting. Hopefully, we can prove you wrong.
