I Have Feathers, Yes I Do.......

I have feathers, how bout you? This is our little Zadie or Zade as we have taken to calling him. Yes, I wrote "him!" We are pretty sure that we have a little rooster on our hands. We love him non the less. At a month old, he is very curious and into everything. He loves to perch in the old toy basket...funny chicken!

Voting....

Yes, voting is taken very seriously in this house! It requires two phones...sometimes three!
Yes, voting is a very, very serious event! We get very annoyed when the calls don't go through! Notice the look Countrychick is giving her phone...
Yes, voting requires patience and two phones.....two phones!
"MOM........Mom........I need another phone!" "NOW!!!"
Countrychick will singlehandedly (is that even a word?) vote for Adam Lambert one million times tonight! Or she'll vote until I send her to bed..........."MOM, I am so NOT going to bed.......I have voting to do!" Rock On Countrychick, Rock On!!! I hope Adam appreciates all of your votes!

Yummy, Yummy Dessert

Countrychick made these last week for dessert. They were heavenly yummy!! Pistachio Pudding Parfaits
1 pkg. 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 cups whipped topping
1 pkg. 3.4 oz. instant pistachio pudding mix
10 pecan shortbread cookies, coarsely crushed (Pamela's makes a good gluten free cookie)
In a small bowl, beat cream cheese and confectioners' sugar. Fold in whipped topping; set aside. Prepare pudding according to package directions; set aside. Spoon 1 Tbsp. cookie crumbs into each of eight parfait glasses. Top with half the pudding and whipped topping mixture. Repeat layers. Top with remaining cookie crumbs. Chill until serving. Makes 8 servings.
Enjoy!

Happy Friday

On my way home yesterday evening, I drove through a spring shower. As I rounded the bend that leads to our house this was the sight that awaited me. A beautiful rainbow was stretching over our neighbor's farm and the mountain range that borders our valley. I didn't have my camera, so I took the photo with my cell phone camera. I can never remember how to use the darn thing, but this time it worked. Happy Friday everyone!

Meet the Baby

This is Zadie May. She was the last chick to hatch at my office on Thursday. All of the other chicks left early on Thursday for their new home. I brought Zadie May home on Thursday evening. She is very, very vocal and active. Do we know for sure that she is a she? The answer to that is no. But we are hoping that the little chick is a she, hence the name Zadie May. We borrowed the name Zadie. My sister has a friend who has a dog that is named Zadie. I believe it means "fortunate one" in Arabic and it also means "Princess" in Old English. Little Zadie is very fortunate that she came to live with us. You can't get any better than having Countrychick and Deserthen as your "chicken momma's." In the video, you will hear Zadie May peeping away. You will also hear a cooing sound in the background...that is Countrychick doing her "chicken whisperer" thing with Zadie. Countrychick can actually put Zadie to sleep with the cooing sounds. Hens will cluck and thrill to their babies and Countrychick can mimic those sounds very well. You will also hear music playing in the background. We leave the music on so Zadie will not feel alone and she also has a stuffed chick to snuggle with. See, I told you Zadie was very fortunate to come live with us. She will be one very spoiled little chick!

Silent Sunday...The Return

I noticed last week that the swallows had returned. Countrychick noticed them too and took photos during the week. These shots were taken through the dinning room windows. The swallows seem to like to perch on my rooster hanger that is outside the window. These two are a pair...Mr. and Mrs. Swallow as we fondly call them. Swallows will return year after year to build and nest in the same area. These two are looking to build a nest on my front porch.

Mr. and Mrs. Swallow together.

Happy Sunday!

The Sound of Cement

Last weekend saw a very large cement truck pull into our front yard. The patio building crew had been hard at work since early morning. The weather was decent enough, so they decided to pour the slab. I was inside cleaning house, but I did manage to make it out long enough to snap a few shots and to video the process of the pouring. The frame for the slab all set up with wire and the power screed on stand-by to do its job.

There was discussion about how the pour would unfold and then it all came together.
The following videos show a bit of the process involved in pouring our little patio. Hayman is manning the cement slide.

Thank you Mr. B! Now I can enjoy my daiquiris on the patio and not in the dirt. Big Smile!
