Lounge Chair Road Trip No. 14: Dunsmuir, California

Good morning. Tina here.

One of the things I have always enjoyed about real road trips is going through Dunsmuir on the way up Interstate 5 on the way to Oregon.

It is different now, you don't get to see as much of the town as you once did.

It is nice when we aren't in such a rush and can take the side road down into town and enjoy seeing the river.

Unfortunately, going north or coming home we are usually wanting to get there and don't take the time to sight see in Dunsmuir.

So I thought maybe I would do a little sight seeing from my lounge chair. I am not in a hurry today.

I love this little old town by the river and the mountains.

It gets lots of snow (well, compared to Kelsey) in the winter, that would be nice too.

And it is close to Mount Shasta, and much closer to the Shakespeare plays in Ashland than we are now!

Maybe someday I will just pack up and move into a cute little old house there.

You never know...

Just in case I do that and you want to visit, here is a map to help show you the way. I'll leave the light on for you.

Pretty Papers

I picked up a bag of wrapping paper pieces at a thrift store a couple of weeks ago.
Even though they're just scraps, some of them caught my eye (the bag was sealed).
There are some pretty ones - like flowers:
I really like the orange and pink, and gold combination in this one:
Pretty, with paisley, a silver metallic background, and ivy:
Sweet Raggedy Ann and Andy kids with balloons and ice cream:
A nice one with branches and fronds, reminiscent of a vintage fabric:
And some just have striking graphic designs, like these stripes and diamonds:
....and so, my vintage wrapping paper collection grows......

More Thrift Finds - With A Punch Of Color

We'll start off today with this great little vintage needlepoint, below.
I found it and put it in the frame, and now it's hanging on the wall, and I love it:
I found a pretty nice orange Fiesta serving bowl, honestly I couldn't believe it was there, back behind some other non-interesting items.
It has a few little "flea bites", but it was cheap and I was glad I spotted it!
You must understand, I REALLY look when I'm shopping!
These vintage Counterpoint canisters were covered in flowered contact paper years ago by a previous owner.
Unfortunately, that paper is pretty darned dirty now, and I'd have liked their choice more if it had been blue and green, to go with the blue lids.
Oh, well - they were super-cheap, also, and I fear that the paper may not come off easily, so I might just re-cover them with a different color choice.
I'm on the lookout for some appropriately patterned vintage adhesive paper:
These vintage invitations with a mermaid are just adorable:
Bright as sunshine, a  sweet "good friend" plate:
Two very nice pillow covers, which I assume may have had an afghan or bed coverlet with them, originally - since it's the same type of material as a couple of commercially-made afghans that I have:
I picked up these colorful felt ornaments for nearly nothing after Christmas:
And last of all, I found these vintage salt and pepper shakers with a definite mid-century modern vibe.
I had never seen this shape before, and I think they were probably part of a larger set:
I think they're cool.

My Favorite Framed Prints: A Pretty Floral Pair

I found a really lovely pair of vintage prints last week and framed them :
I was very happy with the way they turned out:
Although the unframed prints had sustained a bit of damage over the years, somehow it didn't really seem to detract from their beauty:
I took them into the shop, and the very next day, I received a call - the shop owner wanted them for her own home!
Perfect.

I don't like Clowns... but I love Yo Yo Dolls! No vintage fabric was harmed in the making of these dolls!

Yo... Tina here.

I love vintage fabrics, and I love homemade dolls, and put them together, and what have you got?
Well sometimes you get a Yo Yo Doll. I have a few, but they are packed away right now. So I went on a Yo Yo Doll search on ebay, and below I will share some that I found.  Prepare for lots of color and a bunch of cute faces.

A lot of Yo Yo Dolls have clown faces, but they are usually very cute and not scary at all. The jingle bells on this doll add a bit of joy, don't you think?

I happen to favor the hand embroidered faces, but the little manufactured heads are very happy and hard to resist.

The choices of fabric are always interesting. Sometimes they are all wild and crazy, sometimes they are more matchy-matchy, such as red, white, and blue, but they are always colorful. I have yet to find a goth Yo Yo Doll. Actually, that might be kind of fun!

Look at this redheaded girl, she is just cuddle-worthy!

This little guy above has rabbit fur for hair. A little strange, but I like him anyway. He looks Russian to me.

This Poppin' Fresh Dough Baby Yo Yo Doll is made for a toddler, and would make a good pillow!

Starry eyed happy clown! Ready for his Hollywood closeup.

This rather fluffly clown needs to cut down on his donuts. I love his cap!

How can you resist this rick rack trimmed cute face?

Hey, haven't we seen this cute little face before? I think we have some twins and maybe triplets here!

Pompom feet and hands and hat, a happy clown with nice vintage fabric.

There's that cute little face again. I like the collar and hat matching each other.

This Yo Yo Doll looks like he is trying to crawl away. He has a very determined face.

I think this little sweetie has a secret! And she is telling it to...

This little boy... you can definitely tell he's a boy. I think he can keep a secret. He has a boo boo on his head, poor guy.

This Yo Yo Doll is ready for a 4th of July celebration!

Another starry eyed clown. Lots of Yo Yos went into this body. Someone went to a lot of work on his hands and feet. I would love to get up close and personal and look through the fabrics.

Those ears! I think he could hear the secrets from above with ears that big! I like the use of the tassles for feet and hands, very original.

A sad Emmett Kelly Yo Yo doll. Soft and puffy and oh-so cuddly. He just needs love.

A little love with button eyes, and who looks ready to fly away ends our Yo Yo Doll day.

Music, By Faberge, Circa 1972

I found this vintage bottle at a thrift store and it caught my eye because of the colors and the design of the bottle.
I was able to find an advertisement for the cologne in a magazine from 1972!
Pretty tickled that I found it:
It isn't in perfect shape, and had no box, of course.
There was still some cologne inside but, honestly, the smell of it after forty-four years left something to be desired, so I had to wash it out.
Kind of digging the cool bottle, though.
