On a scale from 1-10... I give it a 4

So day one (well if we are counting it is more like year 2) of trying to eat better didnt go so well. Like I said I would give it a 4 out of 10. It was not great but I was a little more aware and tried to control portions which is one of my biggest problems. It all started with the last two oreo stuffed cookies for breakfast. BUT now there are no oreo stuffed cookies to tempt me. Then Grey wanted to go to Gabor Bros for lunch because he was craving one of their calzones. So we went to Gabor Bros and I couldnt pass up the calzone either. But if you have ever been there you know their portions are so big you can eat leftovers for a week! So I just made sure I only ate portion size and now I have tons of leftovers!. Ugh, I should have taken a picture. Anyway we had decided a few days ago to go down to visit my grandma today. So we ended up taking her to dinner but this is where I made the best choice for the day and actually passed up my go to menu item. We went to a Greek restaurant and I would normally get a gyro but I was already feeling guilty so I got the chicken soulvaki (chicken on a skewer) and a salad with the vinegarette dressing. It was yummy and I feel so good that I made that dinner choice. See... I can do it. Baby steps, right? Tomorrow will be better

Anyway... enough about that. Anyone have any good ideas for a YW lesson for Easter? I know, I know it is a little late to start working on my lesson but I have actually been thinking about it all week. And I checked out SugarDoodle but I just wanted it to be memorable and special. I feel like my creative factory has shut down this week. So I could use your help with ideas for lesson, handout, treat, etc... anything....

Where Do I Find The Time?

I get these little bursts of blogging fever and I start talking myself into how I can blog everyday. Then I have this little voice (probably sitting on my shoulder) that says "phff... yeah right, where would I find the time?"
I get up early and do this crazy workout...

I dont know if you have heard of Insanity but it is intense! It is a really really hard workout but I LOVE IT! It is totally my style. It is great cardio and you use your body weight for toning. I am on week 5 (which is the "recovery" week before starting month 2) and I am noticing a difference not only in my muscle tone but in my flexibility and in endurance. I dont recommend starting this as a beginner because there is a lot of jumping and moves that may cause injury if your muscles havent been used to some kind of workout. I have really loved it and have suprised myself with how well I have stuck to it. However... and this is a big HOWEVER, my eating has not complimented my working out so I have had a hard time losing weight. UGH!!! Why?!!! I do great for a couple days then I blow it on this...

AND this...

Yes, that is and oreo inside a chocolate chip cookie! Yum!!! (sorry, I am a horrible photographer) but this is my problem, I cant do both really well at the same time. Any tips? Please! I am actually going to try (Key word) to have that help me with blogging. I know, I know, its like a broken record but even if its just a quick update maybe that will help.

Anyway, so thats just my morning then two days a week I get ready and go to work. On the days I work I got to FHE right after or to YW right after depending on the day.

On the days I dont work I get Londyn to school, do laundry, dishes, clean, pick up Londyn, go to the store, sew, etc...

Figure out dinner, clean up again, get kids ready for bed.

Then once I get them in bed I try to jog 3-5 miles so I will be ready for the Ragnar! You heard me right, I am running the Ragnar and I took one of the spots that has some of the longest legs. I'm crazy!

So I feel like I am so busy but I am sure there are a lot of you out there that are rolling your eyes because your getting kids to school, baseball, soccer, piano and your laundry, dishes and bathrooms are clean.

But here is my goal: I want to lose 10lbs before we go to Costa Rica in 4 weeks! .I know I can do it with the amount I am working out, all I need to do is work on my eating. I need your help. Give me tips on meal ideas, snack ideas, self control, etc...

I will keep you updated because I NEED to do this!

Day 1: Failure!

Well I am not off to a good start. Nothing like setting a goal and not even making it through the first day! I have to admit not only did I NOT make dinner last night, I went to dinner with my parents. Not that I don't love hanging out with them (especially when Grey is not home) and that is obvious but my goal was to spend more time at my house to get things done and cook dinner more often. However the roasted vegetable platter at Marie Calendars was Amazing!
Okay, so I didn't completely fail. I spent all day up until about 4pm doing house work. AND about an hour of that was compiling a list of recipes and making a grocery list. So its not like I didn't think about cooking, right? I was preparing. Maybe I am a little nervous...
Anyway whats for dinner tonight? I can tell you this... It will be yummy! I am using some leftovers from dinner last night and it is a comfort food. I will break out my camera and hopefully have some pictures of a great meal.

Oh, and I am hoping to have some pictures of my chair recovering project! If I don't finish it today I might never finish it!

Whats for Dinner?

I have a relationship with food. Unfortunalty it is an obsessive relationship and I hate to admit but it is one sided. I know its hard to believe but I am the one that loves food and I will admit I am a little obsessed sometimes. I have no self control and I am not one that can eat whatever I want, whenever I want and maintain a certain weight. Actually its quite opposite, Since having two kids I find I cant even eat what I dont want when I dont want to and maintain a certain weight! I have to find a balance (still finding it) of what kinds of foods and when to eat them to help with metabolism.
You are probably asking.... What does this have to do with Whats for Dinner? Well I am beginning to feel it has a lot to do with it. You see, I have always been a family person and we have a lot of family around. I am also not one to sit at home and hang out. So... I spend a fair (well maybe too much) amount of time with family at their house and not at mine. This causes a problem in the laundry and cooking departments. My house is always a mess and my car...well, I dont know if there is a proper description for it. After a number of embarassing times of taking young women home in a disgusting car, or having last minute guests stay at the house and use a bathroom I honestly forgot we had, I have decided to pay a lot more attention to detail and do a better job of keeping things clean. And take that opportunity to teach my kids to do so as well.
ANYWAY.... A big part of that attention to detail is to cook dinner more often. Back to the question Whats for dinner? Well up until now the answer to that has been Whatever mom and dad are having. Well I am married, have two kids and that is answer is about to change! But...I need your help (if anyone is out there). I am going to try to cook more often, a lot more often! I need good ideas for meals and I am going to try them, blog about them and share them.
My intention is not to turn this into a cooking blog but to help me cook by getting ideas from you and letting you know how it turned out when a beginner cook tries recipes. Hey, maybe I'll even get good enough to change recipes, Ahhh....um... I have a long way to go until then. So lets get started. Any good recipes?...

A Few of My Favorite Things

As a part of taking care of myself this year I have been more aware of simple things I like. I have always known I liked some of them but there are a few that I have discovered. Here is a list of things I like:
Pizza, I LOVE pizza. The problem is... I cant stop eating it. We dont get pizza very often because I have no self control when it comes to pizza. I think my favorite pizza would be a tie between the Roasted Garlic Chicken Pizza from CPK or the Margarita Pizza from Bucca Di Bepo. Yum!!!
Peanut Butter, Who doesnt love peanut butter? And paired with chocolate it is hard to resist. When I was younger I used to eat oreos with peanut butter! My alternative now (because I cant just eat what I want these days) is Quaker dipped granola bars, peanut butter (only 130 calories)
Water, I used to drink water and lemonade all the time. I havent ever been a big soda drinker but lemonade was the go to drink. But my second pregnancy changed my tastebuds and lemonade is too sweet now. But crave water and I love drinking water.
Sleeping, I took a nap in the middle of the day a couple weeks ago, and it felt soooo good! It has been a long long time since I took a nap in the middle of the day. As a kid bedtime is horrible but as an adult I think we look forward to it all day.
Jogging, this is a recent discovery. Growing up playing softball I did alot of running but I never liked it. Recently I started jogging to loose weight and have found that I look forward to it everyday! I get the runners high.
Family, I am glad I get to see and be around my family everyday. I enjoy hanging out with them and we are blessed to have extended family close by as well. What would we do without them?
Music, I have never been a big music person. I enjoy listening to it but I am one of those people that doesnt really hear the words (I make up my own) but likes listening to the music part of the song. It wasnt until recently that I really started listening to the words and I have been uplifted by a few songs. some of my favorite songs right now are 'If I die Young' (The Band Perry), 'Colder Weather' (Zac Brown band), 'Mama's song' (Carrie Underwood) and my favorite this week is the new Rascall Flatts song 'I wont let go'. I heard this song for the first time the other day while getting ready and it reminded me of Christ. It is a great song and everyone should listen to it. Click here to watch it on youtube and let me know what you think!

I just got really tired and my brain shut down so thats all for today but these are a few of my favorite things. Let me know what your favorite things are.

New Resolutions

res-o-lu-tion:
1. the state or quality of being resolute, firm determination.
2. a resolving to do something

reso-lute:
having or showing a fixed, firm purpose; determined; resolved; unwavering

I have one New Years Resolution this year but before I go into that I was asking a friend if she had a made a New Years Resolution and she said "I never do, I dont really even know what that means". What?!!! First, doesn't everyone make a New Years Resolution? Its like unwritten law or tradtition or something! Second, what does she mean she doesnt know what it means?! Hello! you set a goal (most of us to loose weight) and you stick to that goal for at least a week so atleast you can say you tried.
As I got to thinking about it I wondered why do we set New Years Resolutions? Have you ever stuck to it? For a full year I mean.
I wanted to change that this year. If you are anything like me you make the same resolution every year and stick to it for maybe two months. There is always excuses and dont get me wrong they are really good! I decided I am going to try something different this year.
My goal every Monday (because I always say "I am going to start on Monday") for the last two years has been to loose weight. I have not lost, maybe gained, weight since I had Corver almost two years ago! I am done with trying and now I am doing. However my New Years Resolution is not to loose weight. My New Years Resolution for 2011 is:
I am going to take better care of myself!
sound dumb? Well here is my reasoning and decision making:
Last year was so crazy for me I started a new job right before the New Year, we bought a house in February, moved in March (on Corvers birthday), found out I was accepted in Swiss Days same week we moved, started sewing morning and night for the next 4 months (finished 600 items), stressful week of swiss days, finished Swiss Days orders just in time to start Christmas orders, finished Christmas orders 5 days before Christmas, and do I need to mention the busy stress of the holidays. With the crazy schedule of last year all I remember is sewing, sewing, sewing. My poor kids spent what felt like all year just watching TV. I wore my self out to say the least! So my New Years Resolution was simple once I thought about last year and I feel like because it is not just to loose weight maybe I wont be so focused on that and it will last longer than a couple months.
So what am I doing to accomplish this goal:
First, I pulled back a little on the clothing line. It will be featured on TV next week but that is the last big advertising effort and I will keep it at a pace that will allow me to do more with my kids and give me more "me" time. Second, I am trying to loose weight and excersize more. I am a part of two biggest loser competitions with some strict rules. I feel good and motivated. I also signed up to do the Ragnar so training for that will help with stress, weight and health. Third, I have set a goal to cook more at home. And last, we have put ourselves back on a budget! I am determined to make this years resolution last!

What to look forward to in 2011:
I cant believe my baby will be 2!
Trip to Guatemala and trip to Hawaii
New budget
New body
Spending time with friends
Boating
BBQ
spending time with family

In a year from now I want to look back and feel like I have accomplished my goal and become a better; wife, mother, daughter, grandaughter, sister, friend, leader and employee.
What is your resolution?
