Christmas 1968
The first Christmas in our new home, we flooded the patio one cold night. The following morning we had a private skating rink. The tennis courts in Kansas City, Missouri were flooded in this way to make ice rinks and safer skating--fear of drowning was eliminated.

Pumpkin Sale
About 1968, GOD'S HALF ACRE on Grandpa's berry farm, was designated as an area for the children to raise pumpkins as a church building fund project. They worked very hard all summer in caring for this effort. Finally, they sold their harvest from the back of Grandpa’s pickup. They netted $30.00 and were pleased with their accomplishment.

Granddad Hyrum and the Union Pacific
Granddad Hyrum was a railroad worker from 1901 until he retired in 1948. For many years he was an engineer on the old steam locomotives.
In 1946, he took on the diesel engine, "the streamliner run," from Pocatello to Montpelier. He was still the engineer on this run when he retired at 68 years of age.
Granddad Hyrum is on the far right
In 1946, he took on the diesel engine, "the streamliner run," from Pocatello to Montpelier. He was still the engineer on this run when he retired at 68 years of age.
As a tribute to the age of railroading in Idaho, Granddad's steam engine is displayed in Ross Park in Pocatello, Idaho. Here, his older sons, Lowell and Oral, returned to Pocatello and visited the park.
