Many times I've gone into a debate on why we need a car. Yes, a car have became a need for us, and not a want.
On a normal weekday with sun shining brightly and not the current daily rain:
7:30am: Hubs will have to drop Emma at my mum's, along with a load of things. A laundry bag of clothes, some are mine, and all Emma's clothes to wash. (Cause our house gets zero sun, we don't wash our own clothes except for pyjamas) A bag of 7 milk bottles. We used to bring the huge steriliser to and fro, but stopped a while ago, now only my mum sterilises her bottles, we don't do it on weekends. The boot is then full at this point.
If we were to take train, I would face a problem of fitting into the cramp train everyday (i'm not saying its impossible), and try to force my way through the army of people out of the train at Serangoon interchange.
If we were to take the train, I would probably need to wake up at 5.30am, instead of the current 6am.
7pm: We will pick Emma up, and along with the same throng of things that we drop off at my mum's.
If we were to take a train, i havent really figured how to get up the train. Cause Serangoon now is a interchange, its packed to the door, so no idea how I'm gona get in with the stroller. Probably cab daily.
On a normal bright sunny weekend:
Saturday: We drop of our laundry at hub's house. The car is currently full at this point. The stroller will be at the front passenger seat, the boot will be filled with a week's worth of laundry (including bedsheets). Emma and myself will be at the backseat.
Theres no way we can take train with the laundry load, so we'll probably have to cab every week, from Seng Kang to east side.
Sunday: With the same load there, we have to get the same load home.
All these happens smoothly with a car, rain or no rain. And not mentioning the extreme convenience. The time we've saved. With Emma now, time is of the essence. We wana spend as much time with her since we're both working.
With the current rainy season, I've read so much complains on how its impossible to get though the lines to book a cab, waiting for 1-2hrs to get a cab (either flagging or book) etc. I can imagine myself in a heavy rain, with a stroller, soaked, trying hard to flag/get a cab, trying to cover Emma so she wouldn't get wet, in great frustration.
Rain or no rain, paragon, Taka etc taxi stands would be in a horrendous LONGGG queue.
So, at this point, I'm super glad that we have a car as a mode of transport. And hopefully we can still afford one when this expires. When I mean afford one, please don't think 'Of cause can afford, jus get the cheapest proton/cherry qq since you just want it as a mode of transport.' It has to be something that hubs is comfortable driving with and within our budget. (I hope this covers all grounds and don't get silly extreme suggestions.)
So... COE prices... Don't chiong so high can? Tolong tolong.. I really hope I wouldn't be sitting in another lancer for another 10 years, it does gets quite boring.
